23 HIV ANTIBODY TESTING SITES Note: All of the sites listed provide HIV Antibody testing with pre- and post-test counseling. These programs act in accordance with federal and state HIV-antibody testing guidelines. Results must be picked up in person (it generally takes 2-3 weeks for results to return). Realize, however, that many communities have access to HIV-antibody testing through non-state programs--for example, through private physicians, private laboratories, local hospitals or clinics. The "danger" with testing through these non-state programs is that the tests may not be confidential (and certainly not anonymous), which poses a special problem in small communities where "everybody knows everybody". The non-state programs may neglect to provide information on the meaning and limitations of the tests, and counseling may not be available. Anchorage Alaskan AIDS Assistance Association W.
