6 Description of Career Talks BIFE Games Courses & Progression routes Speaker: Ross Lee (Gaming Co-ordinator) The international gaming industry is a growing one. It is now larger than the film industry. There has never been a better time to be involved in this extremely exciting industry. Ireland is home to large international corporations that provide gaming solutions in a multitude of forms; from development through to localization and testing. Ireland also boasts quite a number of internationally renowned companies without which the industry could not have developed as it has. This talk will give an introduction to our two games courses and the career and educational opportunities available. A Career in the Music Industry Speaker: Kenneth Harte (Sound & DJ Co-ordinator) A qualification in Music Production and Sound Recording prepares students for a wide range of careers including working in Live Sound, Recording Studios, Audio Installation, Sound Reinforcement, Music Production, Post Sound for TV & Film, Audio Editing, Foley Artist, Location Sound, Gaming Audio, Theatre Engineer, Event Promotion, Music Management, Education, and Software Development. BIFE offers Level 5 and 6 Certificate and Diploma qualifications with educational paths to Degrees in Music Production. Financial Supports Speaker: Matthew Way (Career Guidance Counsellor) This talk gives an overview of the two main sources of income for BIFE Learners: the maintenance grant and Back to Education allowance: who is eligible, how much students receive and how to apply.

7 A Career in Horticulture Speaker: Claire McQuade (Horticulture Co-ordinator) A qualification in Horticulture prepares students for career opportunities in Landscape Design & Construction, Nursery Management, Allotment Gardening etc. Claire will speak about these career opportunities along with the courses that BIFE offer in these areas and the progression opportunities that are available to third level Colleges. A tourism qualification offer career opportunities in Hotel Management, Event Management, Reservations, Tour Operations, Heritage & Tourism Marketing. Paddy will speak about these career opportunities along with the courses that BIFE offer in these areas and the progression opportunities that are available to third level Colleges. A Career in Nursing/Midwifery and Health Care Name of Speaker: Emer Shortall (Nursing Co-ordinator) Nursing involves the care of individuals of all ages, groups and communities, sick and well, in many different settings. A Career in Sport & Security Name of Speaker: Charlie Batt (Head of Sport & Security Dept.) Job opportunities in the Sport and Security Industries have exploded over the past few years. Mr. Batt will discuss career opportunities in these industries. He will talk about the courses that BIFE offer and the progression opportunities that are available to Third Level Colleges.

8 Science Pre-University Name of Speaker: Claire McQuade (Co-Ordinator) This course was set up with the idea of giving students the opportunity to study all three science subjects Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Many leaving cert students would have 2 science subjects but lack the third. They also study lab skills and mathematics. This will give them a clear advantage on entering college. The extra year link between university and school defines the student s interest in science and enables them to complete tasks successfully within a confined time period and to a high standard. Architectural Design and Technology Name of Speaker: Berni Walsh (Course Co-Ordinator) An Architect plans, designs, and oversees the construction of buildings that have human occupancy or use as their main purpose. Their work can also involve preparing feasibilities studies, planning, conservation and renovation. They need understanding of many different areas including law, spatial planning, aesthetics, construction materials and methods, services, building regulations, management, finance and history. Historically most architectural design and construction was carried out by artisans such as stone masons, carpenters, or master builders. Today only qualified people with appropriate qualifications and registration may legally practice architecture. Technical knowledge is as important as design. The architectural Technologist provides information on the technical design solutions and is trained in building construction methods and technology. They typically concentrate on the technology of building, design and construction. They can also be involved in the project management working with contractors on site.

9 EXHIBITION AREA The exhibition area in the Institute s Hall will be open from 10:00 16:00.
