The Employee Relations Symposium will be held Thursday, November 13, 8:30 am 4:30 pm, Building 22, University Conference Center, Ballrooms A, B, and C. The symposium is designed to provide managers, supervisors, and employees with proactive approaches and solutions for employee relations issues. Division and department heads are asked to encourage their supervisors, managers and employees to attend. Employee relations encompasses a broad range of concepts, transactions, practices, behaviors and objectives that arise out of the relationship between managers, supervisors and employees, and among the employees themselves. Employee relations involves the behavior of two or more individuals. The University of West Florida is committed to promoting positive environments and relationships by focusing on good management practices and workplace behaviors. The university s goal continues to be a pro-active approach towards maintaining positive communication among employees, supervisors, and managers in order to minimize the occurrence of employee relations problems. Participants will learn: How to promote diversity by demonstrating awareness, acceptance and respect How to make ethical decisions and the importance of being ethical What is Title IX? Online time sheets and leave reports for the November 9 to November 22 pay period should be submitted electronically by 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 19 and approved by 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 20. Leave accruing employees are entitled to eight (8) hours of holiday pay (pro-rated for part time) for each holiday. For further information contact Carol Gentry at or Nicole Lohr at Reminder: Annual Performance Evaluations for University Work Force Employees The annual evaluation period for University Work Force employees was July 1, 2013 through June 30, The deadline for submitting completed evaluations was Tuesday, September 30, All evaluation documents are accessible electronically on the Position, Performance, and Employment Management System (PPEMS) website. If you have not done so, please ensure there are no pending evaluations in your PPEMS box by processing and submitting all completed evaluations to Human Resources. You may check pending evaluation under each user type by clicking Pending Evaluations in the menu on the left. Human Resources will soon be implementing new Performance Management software; therefore, after October 31, all pending evaluations in PPEMS that are not completed and sent to Human Resources will be inaccessible. 3 Page 3 of 5 HR Implementation of New Software HR is Implementing New Software for Recruiting, Job Descriptions, and Performance Evaluations for University Work Force Employees (non-instructional staff). Did you know that your Human Resources Department is busily working on a new software implementation for recruiting employees, preparing your job descriptions, and conducting your performance evaluations? We have heard your pleas and shared your frustrations, and we have been busy behind the scenes preparing a solution! In fall, 2012, a 28-member focus group consisting of University Work Force Employees and supervisors evaluated the PeopleAdmin (PPEMS) newest software version and compared it with a similar product available from Banner (Banner Talent Management Suite). Both companies provided demonstrations of their products to the task force members. The task force members provided their feedback/recommendations to Cindy Faria at the end of the evaluation period. This feedback overwhelmingly indicated that the university should select the new PeopleAdmin product, and we have been working on the implementation of that product during The new job description and recruiting software modules will be ready in December, 2014, and the new performance evaluation module will be in place next summer before the next University Workforce Employee evaluations start. Human Resources will provide plenty of training on the new systems. We think you will like them! Here are some of the new system's enhancements: You will have the ability to route job descriptions and performance evaluations to a specific individual. This is an improvement over the current system that only allows routing to a position, such as Department Head or VP. UWF will have automated onboarding activities for newly-hired employees. This is currently a manual process. The performance evaluation module will allow more than one supervisor to evaluate an employee, which is needed if an employee's supervisor changes during the evaluation period. This is not available in the current system. You will be able to view previous years' evaluations when you are working on the current year's evaluation. Currently, you have to leave the current evaluation and search previous years' evaluations manually. Please don't hesitate to call us with questions at Drug Free Campus Students, faculty, staff, and guests of the University of West Florida are expected to comply with all federal, state, and local laws, as well as university rules and regulations concerning alcoholic beverages and other drugs. Specifically, the university prohibits the unlawful possession, use, manufacture or distribution of alcohol or controlled substances in or on university property or as part of any of its activities. Controlled substances include, but are not limited to, marijuana, cocaine, cocaine derivatives, heroin, amphetamines, barbiturates, LSD, tranquilizers, inhalants, and associated paraphernalia. The university will take disciplinary action against employees

4 Page 4 of 5 for violation of its standards of conduct regarding alcohol and other drugs. For employees, the process is provided in University Policy HR-22.00, Standards of Conduct. For students, the process is delineated in the current edition of the Student Handbook under UWF Student Code of Conduct. Sanctions imposed upon students may range from written warnings to restriction, probation, counseling, suspension or expulsion from the university. Employee sanctions may range from oral and/or written reprimands, mandatory participation in an Employee Assistance Program, and/or termination of employment. Numerous federal, state, and local laws provide for a variety of legal sanctions and penalties for the unlawful possession or distribution of illicit drugs and alcohol. The use, misuse, and abuse of alcohol and other drugs, both legal and illegal, can have serious consequences to health and well-being. Alcohol and other drug use can lead to psychological and/or physiological dependence and addiction. Information on specific health risks associated with alcohol and other drugs is available in more detail at the following campus locations: Counseling and Wellness Services provides counseling and psychotherapy to help students address how to manage, cope and grow with the stress associated with school and life. The primary goal of counseling is to help students develop the personal awareness and skills necessary to overcome problems and to develop in ways that will allow them to take advantage of the educational opportunities at the university. Students can visit the center free of charge. Counseling Services is staffed by psychologists, mental health counselors, and psychology trainees. Contact with the center is confidential. Wellness Services provides health promotion services for students in the area of alcohol abuse and misuse, sexual assault prevention, and sexual health promotion. Aetna Resources for Living is the provider for the university s Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
