1 Welcome to this review guide for the configuration of the Services Monitor Manager This review guide will guide you through the steps necessary to configure the Services Monitor Manager. Conditions ZyINDEX and ZyLAB WebServer are installed. The ZyLAB Services Monitor Manager is included with the standard installation of ZyINDEX, provided that IIS is available. Files are placed in the directory Program Files\ZyLAB\Information Management Platform\ServiceMonitor.Manager and Program Files\ZyLAB\Information Management Platform\ServiceMonitor.NTService. Also, a virtual directory with the name ZSM is created. This virtual directory refers to Program Files\ZyLAB\Information Management Platform\ServiceMonitor.Manager and needs to be set for ASP.NET version 2.0. Check this by viewing the properties of the virtual directory. In the ASP.NET tab, the property 'ASP.NET version' must include a value starting with 2. Configuration Services Monitor Open the ZyLAB.ServiceMonitor.Satellite.exe.config file Define the NTService port. In this example, port is the port on which the NTService offers services. Note: The NTService will, on this port, also offer services to the Services Manager (located elsewhere on the network). Port needs therefore to be opened by the administrator for network traffic. 1

2 Define time outs. The LifesignCheck.Interval value defines (in milliseconds) how often the ServiceMonitor.NTService is checked. The NTService.MaxShutdownTime value defines (in milliseconds) how long the interval should be between informing the Windows NT Services Controller that the ZyLAB.ServiceMonitor.NTService needs to be stopped, and actually stopping the service with a Kill() commando. Certain user rights might apply for changing these settings. Define a logical default path for the log file. Define the Satellite port. In this example, port is the port on which the Satellite offers a HealthIndicator object. This object must be available for the ZyLAB.ServiceMonitor.NTService on the same machine. Save and close. Open the ZyLAB.ServiceMonitor.NTService.exe.config file. 2

3 Define the Satellite port. The full path of the Satellite application is needed, so it can be restarted. Define the NTService port. Services are offered via tcp, or http. Note: The NTService will, on this port, also offer services to the Services Manager (located elsewhere on the network). This port needs therefore to be opened by the administrator for network traffic. Define name of MSMQ message queue. Define link to services. The link exists of the service identifier (not necessarily equal to the service name), and the full path to the executable. 3

4 Define communication with server. Define host, port, and login information Define address and user friendly name of sender, address(es) of receiver(s) (target), and timeout in milliseconds (how long to reach contact with server). Define a logical default path for the log file. 4

5 Define time outs. The LifesignCheck.Interval value defines (in milliseconds) how often the ServiceMonitor.NTService is checked. The HealthCheck.Interval value defines (in milliseconds) how often the ZyLAB services are checked. Configuration Services Open the ZySCANService.config file. This file can be found in the directory {Common Application Data}\ZyLAB\ZySCANService. Common Application Data for Windows 2000/XP: c:\documents and settings\all users\application data Common Application Data for Vista: c:\commonappdata Make sure that the name of the message queue to which alerts are sent about the status of the service should be equal to the name mentioned in the ZyLAB.ServiceMonitor.NTService.exe.config file. All other parameters of the ZySCAN Service can be configured via the Service Manager or in ZySCAN. 5
