Mission / Purpose Goals The mission of the University of Texas Medical Branch School of Nursing at Galveston is to provide scholarly teaching, conduct innovative scientific investigations, provide state-of-the-art, culturally relevant patient care, and contribute to the health of the community through professional and public service. The concepts of health promotion, human response to illness, and healing practices provide a framework for all School of Nursing activities including teaching, research, patient care and service commitments. G 1: Knowledge Integrate specialized knowledge and cultural competence into the advanced practice of nursing. G 2: Research Critique, analyze, synthesize, and apply evidence, research and theory to validate, expand, and improve the advanced practice of nursing. G 3: Collaborative Relationships Initiate and sustain collaborative relationships with colleagues from nursing and other disciplines to promote the health of individuals, families, and communities. G 4: Use evidence-based teaching Incorporate theories and research in generating teaching and counsling strategies for the promotion of helath, prevention of illness, and management of human responses to illness. G 5: Provide Leadership Provide leadership in contemporary roles as an dvanced practice nurse. G 6: Analyze Advanced Nursing Roles Analyze the historical, legal, cultural, and ethical dimensions of advanced practice nursing. G 7: Active Participation to Promote Health Participate in political, economic, and organizational change to promote the health of individuals, families, and communities within the global environment. G 8: Demonstrate competence in an advanced nursing Demonstrate competence in an advanced nursing role in the delivery of comprehensive holistic care with compassion, dignity, and respect. G 9: Assume legal and ethical accountability Maintain legal and ethical accountability tp clients, society, and the profession in fulfilling the role of an advanced practice nurse.
