3 Service centres for pensioners and the unemployed Service and recreation centres give you the opportunity to take care of your own well-being. You will find the following services and more in all service centres: Meal and cafeteria services Library and Internet services and the chance to read the daily newspapers Hobby and recreational activities such as physical exercise, handicrafts, language courses, computer classes, field trips, parties Peer support groups and help with different situations in life Guidance and advice on the use of the services Voluntary work In addition to services common to all centres, each centre focuses on different services. To get more information about these, read this brochure and visit under Vanhusten palvelut > Palvelukeskukset (only in Finnish). All service centres have a Facility User Board, which consists of centre clients and participates in planning all activities with the personnel. Activities are organised by, for example, the Social Services Department, volunteers, associations, organisations, peer support groups, the adult education centre, congregations, the Sports Department, and the library. Most of the activities are organised during the day, but gatherings and events are also organised in the evenings. By acquiring a free service centre card, you can participate in the activities organised by the city in all the centres. 3

Kamppi is the largest service centre in the city. It is a forward-looking activity centre focusing on competence and caring. The Kamppi offers high-quality services, information, guidance and stimulating activities for pensioners and unemployed people in Helsinki. You can participate in different groups, play music, do handicrafts, paint and play different games in the service centre there is something for everyone at Kamppi. Clients may chat and share their life experiences at Kamppi s Kammari and in different discussion groups. There is a broad range of weekly cultural events and lectures available at the service centre. Many organisations and associations also organise peer support activities in Kamppi. Kamppi is known for its voluntary activities. Clients, volunteers and staff plan activities together, with interaction and customer focus the guiding principals. 5

There are two entrances: at Kinaporinkatu 9 A and Hämeentie Kinapori is located within good transport connections in Sörnäinen, in the heart of the city. It is easy to choose from our range of handicraft activities: you can explore the secrets of wood- and metalwork as well as knitting, sewing, ceramics and glass works. All Sports Department groups organised in the centre are targeted at seniors. The hall s dance floor is filled with eager dancers twice a week! There are weekly lectures, concerts and cultural events. Social instructors provide individual guidance and help with the challenges of everyday life. The centre also runs target-oriented groups: memory, discussion and game groups support the clients mental and social ability to function, and there is an integration group for ageing immigrants. The centre has a large volunteer programme. You can dine daily at Restaurant Onni and meet friends in the coffee shop in the foyer. The centre has a library and provides assistance for using the computer. Private service providers, such as a pedicurist, hairdresser and a massage therapist, also offer their services.

7 In the service centres, there are activities to suit many tastes. You can try your skills on metal- and woodworks, weaving and cloth-printing, sewing and felting. Handicraft courses are arranged, for example, in porcelain painting, lace-making, ceramics, painting and mosaic works. 7

8 8 Elderly people are encouraged to join the computer age, and computers and the internet are available in the service centres. They also provide free guidance in computer use; make an appointment at the information desk in advance.

The service centre has a diverse selection of services, inviting you to come along to improve your fitness and well-being. Professional staff and happy faces welcome you in the centre s new and cosy premises! Social instructors support, advise and provide individual guidance to services. All exercise groups from body control to line dancing have been designed for seniors. You meet enthusiastic people on handicrafts courses and in the workshop. Daytime dances are definitively worth a visit. The service centre also has activities for older immigrants. Participation is free, with the exception of pool exercises and material fees for handicrafts groups. Kontula has a cosy library and computer points. You can eat in the lunch restaurant on weekdays as well as on weekends. Private services are provided by a foot therapist and a barber-hairdresser. 9

The facilities of the service centre are located with the buildings of the retirement home in a green parkland. You can participate in different exercise groups that maintain your ability to function as well as in clubs and activities in the service centre. There are handicraft activities, learning circles, peer support groups and more. You can also receive social and healthcare advice, service guidance and consultations by a physiotherapist. The ITE point is available during exercise group sessions. The service centre also organises different programme activities, events and excursions to the surrounding areas. Manor Restaurant Palmia in the K building is open on weekdays 8 am 3 pm and at weekend 10 am 3 pm. Lunch service is 10:50 am 1:30 pm. The menu can be found online.

The Meilahti Recreation Centre is in the middle of beautiful nature, next to the sea and near Seurasaari. It operates in an elegant wooden villa built in 1900 and is filled with the warm spirit of the past. Programmed activities include different exercise groups, trips, joint events, concerts, yard improvement events, music events, parties and other recreational activities. Sing-alongs are organised on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Some courses by the adult education centre are also organised in the recreation centre. During summer, we barbecue outside and enjoy the nice atmosphere. You can grow your own crops on small plots in the yard. In the recreation centre, you can get service guidance for different life situations. The councillors guide you in searching for services and in seeking information, and they help you to clear up matters. There is also a possibility to take your blood pressure. The recreation centre facilities are rented during weekends for private events and parties. 13

Munkkiniemi arranges lots of activities together with customers, pensioners organisations, adult education centres and peer support groups. Cultural activities include language courses, lectures, painting groups, excursions and programmed events. Concerts, lectures, choir activities and sing-alongs in Finnish and Swedish are organised for music lovers. There are daily seniors exercises: yoga, salsa dancing and gymnastic exercises from stretches to stick and chair exercises. There is also a gym in the service centre. There are computer equipment, a laundry room and sauna available for clients. The staff will give you more information, guidance and social advice. ITE points in the health centre in the same building allow you to monitor your health independently. The restaurant has a cafeteria and lunch service, and it is licensed to sell alcoholic beverages. 15

Volunteers are also active in the operations of the centre. You can use the ITE points to take your blood pressure and weight. If you wish, you can make an appointment with a social advisor to discuss any everyday issues. The pleasant library has all the librarian services as well as a computer with an internet connection. The combined restaurant and cafeteria is situated near the entrance and also has an terrace outdoors during summertime. The restaurant is licenced to sell alcohol. Private services in the service centre are provided by a masseur, barber-hairdresser and foot therapist.

Beautiful nature and the sea are close. The service centre organises guided activities for the elderly and also provides a meal service in Restaurant Helmi. You can participate in exercise, singing and different discussion and motivational groups. There is a branch of the city library in Roihuvuori. The librarian is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays, best reached at 2 3 pm. There are computers for use by customers independently, or, alternatively, you can make an appointment for guided use, telephone (09) for information. Syystie has a cosy restaurant with a cafeteria and a library with a computer where you can learn computer use or use the internet independently. There is professional service and healthcare advice available, and you can monitor your health independently in the ITE point. You can get guidance on computer use or reserve a computer for independent use. We also organise different learning circles, programmed events, dance events as well as lectures and rental of meeting rooms. The service centre provides foot therapy and has a sauna and laundry room. The restaurant and cafeteria are open to everyone. The city s southern family care centre has activities and premises in our building.
