3 Behavioral Health Counseling Saturday Scholars Degree Completion Program Created as a part-time program in Drexel University s College of Nursing and Health Professions, the Bachelor of Science Degree in Behavioral Health Counseling (BHC) consists of a comprehensive, clinically-applied curriculum that prepares students with essential competencies for them to immediately begin making substantial contributions as professionals within today s evolving and demanding behavioral health care field. Program Description The curriculum is presented in an accelerated, quarter-term format allowing part-time students taking courses just on Saturdays to complete their junior and senior year of undergraduate studies in just two years. When combined with advanced program electives, students may coordinate coursework with individual career goals in areas such as psychiatric rehabilitation, prevention and treatment of substance disorders, children and adolescent behavioral health-care services, and related community behavioral health services. Who Should Choose Behavioral Health Counseling? Working students with their Associate s degree or other college experience will appreciate the innovative Saturday Scholars program, which allows students to balance the challenges of education, work, and family life by completing their degree entirely on Saturdays. Career Opportunities BHC professionals are employed in social service and community agencies, outpatient treatment facilities, and inpatient and residential treatment settings that serve children, adolescents, adults, or elderly suffering from disabling mental illnesses or substance use disorders. Graduates who plan to pursue a master s degree will find that they are exceptionally well-prepared to continue advanced degrees in counseling, social work, counseling psychology, and related professions. Admission Information The BHC Saturday Scholars program operates on a quarter-term system, rather than a semester system. Students may begin the program by transferring as few as 24 collegelevel semester credits. Most students accepted into the program will have completed at least 60 semester college credits in general education courses, with a 2.5 minimum grade point average. Students may complete and transfer in additional general education credits while enrolled in the BHC Saturday Scholars program. For more information go to:

4 Curriculum All BHC courses are 3-credit courses and are taught in accelerated, six-week terms. Two six-week terms equal one twelve-week quarter term. There are four twelve-week quarter terms each year. Therefore, students complete eight six-week terms per year and take 6 credits each term, equaling 12 credits each quarter, for a total of 48 credits each year. Semester credits transferred in from other colleges are converted to quarter credits by multiplying total semester credits by 1.5 (60 semester credits equals 90 quarter credits). Students need 180 quarter term credits to graduate. The courses are divided into the following core courses and advanced elective courses: Behavioral Health Counseling Courses Counseling Theory and Practice Cognitive-Behavioral Counseling I & II Group Counseling I & II Advanced Counseling Interventions Multicultural Counseling Perspectives Assessment and Treatment Planning Psychopharmacology for Counselors Psychiatric Rehabilitation I & II Introduction to Addiction Disorders Co-occurring Disorders Crisis and Brief Intervention Methods Recovery and Relapse Prevention Life-Span Human Development Child Psychopathology Child and Adolescent Support Services Family-Focused Interventions Case Management Methods Ethics and Professional Responsibility Genetics and Behavioral Health Forensic Mental Health Services Behavioral Health and Aging Foundations of Behavioral Health Care Trauma-Informed Care Intellectual Disabilities Senior Research Project Careers in Behavioral Health Care Independent Study Options The quality of the education offered in this major is well-recognized by graduate school admissions committees in areas such as social work and counseling psychology in leading universities throughout the United States.

The core classes are set up in a way that you can actually interact with your classmates and have interesting discussions which makes you eager to attend class.
