Esta Circular es para informarles que se ha recibido una descripción de servicio de Brasil, designando al Capitán de Navío Carlos Alberto PEGAS FERREIRA para su presentación a la elección que tendrá lugar durante la XVIIIª Conferencia Hidrográfica Internacional para un puesto de Director del Bureau Hidrográfico Internacional. 3. Se adjunta a la presente su hoja de servicio para su consideración. Antes de la Conferencia, el Bureau reunirá las listas de los candidatos, indicándolos por orden alfabético, y las presentará, junto con sus hojas de servicio, a cada delegación a la inauguración de la Conferencia. Además, las calificaciones y las hojas de servicio de cada candidato, que serán establecidas oficialmente durante el primer día de la Conferencia (el 23 de Abril), serán examinadas por el Comité de Elegibilidad. Scientific Societies (member of, past and present) Sociétés savantes (dont il est ou a été membre): XXX ADDITIONAL INFORMATION RENSEIGNEMENTS COMPLEMENTAIRES (if any) (le cas échéant) Carlos Pêgas has a long and more than 30 years career in hydrography, covering hydrographic and oceanographic data gathering, Safety of navigation management, training, national and international policy, strategic planning, capacity building, project management, and technical standardization. During the last six years, he has been in charge of the IHO affairs in the Brazilian Hydrographic Service. He had great influence in the development of the current international policy for regional and international hydrographic cooperation including the establishment of the SWAtHC, the association, as a Full Member, to the MACHC, and the association to the IC-ENC and PRIMAR. Regarding IHO activities, he has been involved on the coordination of the cartographic tasks of both the SWAtHC and MACHC. In the Brazilian Hydrographic Service, he is advisor to the Brazilian Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC) production plan in order to achieve total coverage of the Brazilian jurisdictional waters until 2012, and the ISO 9001:2000 certification on nautical chart production. He intends, as director of IHB, to continue working towards the creation and development of national hydrographic services, as well as training of personnel required for the collection, analysis and processing of hydrographic data, cartographic production and dissemination of nautical information.

5 With the experience gained in the Brazilian Hydrographic Service, he believes that partnerships between national hydrographic services, under the guidance of the IHO, with the support of private companies, are instruments for the development of hydrographic services in favor of the safety of navigation and the protection of the marine environment.
