3 Foreword Dear Friends, On the eve of the twenty-seventh edition of the Summer Olympic Games and the seventh edition of the Summer Paralympic Games, it is a great pleasure to present you the Belgian Equestrian team, which will have one individual participant in Dressage and a team in Eventing, Jumping and Para-equestrian. All of our riders were submitted to a considerable effort during the past 2 years in order to prepare these Games as well as to conform themselves to the extremely strict selection criteria we imposed upon them. During the 2010 World Equestrian Games, Belgium obtained a team selection for Jumping and Eventing. The bronze medal for the jumping team was memorable and the Gold medal for Philippe Le Jeune with Vigo d Arsouilles was historical because after Jos Lansink with Cumano in Aachen in 2006, Belgium was again the country that delivered the individual World Champion. And we don t forget the individual Silver medal of Michèle George in Para-equestrian. The participation to the Games is very demanding for the Olympic and Paralympic Committee, and for our federation, either in the administrative, logistic or financial domains. Thanks to common efforts of the Olympic Committee, Adeps, Bloso and the federation it will be the first time that three professional coaches will support our athletes in the 3 Olympic disciplines during the Games. Nevertheless, an optimal involvement would not have been possible without the support of our partners. I would hence like to thank our leagues (VLP and LEWB), Lami-Cell and Cavalor sincerely. Although the expectations are high, it will not be easy to perform as well as in Kentucky, but I am convinced that our athletes have the potential to produce great results. 4 Introduction Dear fan of equestrian sport, It is a honor for me to be able to address you some words during the preparation of the Olympic and Paralympic Games 2012 which will take place in London. During the past two years there has been an intense battle to obtain the qualification for the games. This battle wasn t without result Belgium can send fifteen athletes to the Games and this is exceptional. Eleven at the Olympic Games and four at the Paralympic Games. Participating at the Games is the ultimate dream of every sportsman. I am convinced that our Belgian athletes will go for much more than only participation. We have shown in the last few weeks, months and years that we have competitive combinations that are supported by a professional staff. For this I wish to address my profound gratitude to all the organizations and people that helped us to make this possible. We are working hard to give riders and horses a chance of performing at the best of their possibilities. I am, obviously, thrilled to be able to follow these achievements directly in London. For the people at home, will be the place to be to stay informed about the games. Our leagues and the federation are working closely together in order to provide our visitors with fast and accurate news. Our athletes will do their utmost at this competition.
