History Elders decided to take members on campaign for a week. Has been done every year since 1976 in Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, and Arkansas. This method has been successfully used on all these campaigns. Do many workshops each year. (Cost) 6
Methods We have used several methods but have found this one to be most effective because it is: Scriptural Short Systematic Simple 7
The Safety Chain: No Pamphlets Just uses the Bible Let us Speak where the Bible speaks, Be Silent where the Bible is silent. 8
Bibles Pg 5-A We all use the same King James Version Bibles. Why? Most people accept the King James Version. Easy to read with large print. Easy to tell the student the page numbers. 9
Bibles Pg 5-A Everyone needs two Bibles One for the teacher One for the student. Out of Print $6 each Order from NW ** 10
Safety Chain Method Pg 5-B The study takes approximately 2 to 3 hours. Normally broken into 2 sessions. 11

How to Teach the Study Pg 10-J The teacher works with a Silent Partner. The Silent Partner: Writes down each Bible verse. Writes summary of each verse. This written material is left with the student. Do not make one master photocopy to leave with the student. 21
Example of Handwritten Notes Pg 11 Mark 7:7,9,13 1 Timothy 4:1-4 Tradition We worship in vain if we keep traditions rather than God s law In later times some will depart from the original teachings of God. Inspiration of Scriptures 2 Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is of God 22
How to Teach the Study Pg 10-J The Silent Partner remains silent unless: The teacher calls on him/her to read. or Teacher asks for or needs assistance. 23
How to Teach the Study Pg 13-B How to deal with questions. Don t fear them!!!! If the question is covered later in the study, tell him it will be covered later. If you don t know the answer, Admit it, Write the question down, Tell him you will research the Biblical answer. 24
How to Teach the Study Pg 5-E Teacher reads the first scripture aloud. Teacher asks the question that is written in the margin of his teacher s Bible. When answered, go to the next scripture and page number. 25
How to Teach the Study Pg 5-F LET THE SCRIPTURES TEACH! Ask enough questions to ensure the student understands the main point Do not try to improve God s word with a lot of your own words. LET THE SCRIPTURES TEACH! *** 26

Marking Bibles Pg 5-G Each teacher should mark his own set of New Testaments. Invaluable part of your training. Use a straight edge. Use pencil or ball point pen. Do not use anything that will bleed through. 37
The Safety Chain Exercise: YOU MARK YOUR BIBLE Mark first two sets of scriptures 38
Marking Bibles Exercise Pg 6 SCRIPTURES 1. Mark 7:7,9,13 Page Timothy 4:1-4 Page 348 QUESTIONS Are the commandments of men equal to the commandments of God? Is tradition equal to the Word of God? What happens when we follow the commandments of men? What are two examples of traditions of men found in verse three? What happens when people give heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils? 39

Page Tim 4:1-4 What are two examples of traditions of men found in verse three? What happens when people give heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils? II Timothy 3:16-17 Page 354
How to Teach the Study Pg 5-E First: Read the scripture. Then: Ask the questions that you have written in your margin. Then: Go to the next scripture that you have written in your margin. 42
How to Teach the Study Pg 5-F LET THE SCRIPTURES TEACH! Check for understanding. We can t improve on God s word. LET THE SCRIPTURES TEACH! 43
Group Activity Pick a Partner. Practice the two scriptures you have marked in your Bible. *** 44
How to Teach the Study Pg 11-A The Primary purposes of the first half of the study are for the students to: 1. Understand and accept the authority of God s Word. 2. Understand the necessity of Christ s blood. 3. Understand God s plan of salvation. 4. Determine if he has followed God s plan of salvation. 5. And if he has not followed it, to decide if he will follow it. 45
How to Teach the Study Pg11-B Critical point in the study: After reading John 14:15, Ask the following: (these questions should be written in your Bible) 46
How to Teach the Study Pgs 7&11-B Four Questions 1. Have you been saved? 2. Could you tell me how it happened? 3. How long was it after you were saved that you were baptized? 4. Would you tell me why you were baptized? (If the student was baptized) 47
How to Teach the Study Pg 12-B Do not show surprise or disagreement with the student s answers. Do not attempt to address their validity. Just write them down in great and specific detail. Read it all back to the student to be sure it is accurately written. Then put it off to the side and continue to let God s Word do the teaching. Later, after the student reads and understands God s will he can compare it to what he has done and make a decision. 48
How To Teach the Study Pg 11-B If these questions are not asked and the answers written in detail, it is possible that by the end of the study when he understands God will, he will have subconsciously rationalized in his mind that is exactly what he has done when, in fact, he has not. 49
Asking for Obedience Pg 12-C Acts 22:16 `And now why tarriest thou? Arise and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.' Acts 2:47 Praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. 50
Asking for Obedience Pg 12-C Simply Ask: Would you like to be baptized and wash away your sins and be added to the Lord s church? 51
Asking for Obedience Pg 12-C You may need to be quiet for several minutes as the student mentally and emotionally struggles with what he has learned. You may eventually break the silence by asking, "It's hard to say no to God, isn t it? 52
Asking for Obedience Pg 12-C If the student says: I have already been saved; Ask: Do you see any differences between what you did and what the Bible says one must do to be saved? Use notes to help him see any differences. Wouldn t you like to do what the Bible says you should do? 53
Asking for Obedience Pg 12-C If the student says: I have already been baptized; Ask: Do you see any differences between your baptism and the ones we just read about? Use notes to help him see any differences. Wouldn't you like to be baptized in the same manner and for the same purpose you just read in the Bible? 54
Asking for Obedience Pg 12-C If the student says: I want to wait; Ask: Did we read about anyone in the scriptures waiting? I have not been saved; Ask: What steps of salvation do you need to do? 55
Asking for Obedience Pg 12-C The inspired question of Acts 22:16 can be asked over and over in various ways Regardless of whether the student obeys Schedule the second half of the study! Give the student the handwritten notes, but keep the answers to the questions about salvation to use at the end of the next half of the study. *** 56

Keeping the Saved Saved Pg 2 When we start bringing in new Christians through the front door. We must do all we can to keep them from going right back out through the back door. 111
Keeping the Saved Saved Pg 2 The Challenge of New Christians New Christians are different from mature Christians. Knowledge Dress Behavior Friends 112
Keeping the Saved Saved Pg 2 The Challenge of New Christians Do your new Christians Sit in worship by themselves? Stand uncomfortably in the foyer while all the groups of friends visit with each other? Associate primarily with their non-christian friends? Cling to denominational practices? 113
Keeping the Saved Saved Pg 2 What do you do about it? Are you uncomfortable with them so you Give them a dirty look when they sit in your pew? Say hi and keep walking by them? Ignore them while you ask your friends to lunch? Snicker when they say something funny in Bible class? 114
Keeping the Saved Saved Pg 2 The Challenge of New Christians Do you just let them slowly fade away until they stop coming? Would you stay with any group who treated you this way? Does the Bible teach us to behave this way? 115
Keeping the Saved Saved Pg 2 To remain faithful, a new Christian must do all the following: Make at least 5 good friends within 6 months. Make at least one very good friend within 6 months. Become active in the work of the church. Learn and grow in the word of God. 116
Keeping the Saved Saved Pg 2 New Christian Class Advantages Gives them a focal point and a reason for coming. Grounds them in the fundamentals. Disadvantages Segregates them from the rest of the congregation. The only people they meet are other immature new Christians. 117
Keeping the Saved Saved Pg 3 New Christian Program There are many systems. We have seen and tried a number of them. We have seen this one work the best. 118
Keeping the Saved Saved Pg 3 The new Christian rotates through 14 different families One family per month For 14 months. 119
Keeping the Saved Saved Pg 3 New Christian Program Each month, the family: Ensures the new Christian is at every Bible class and worship. Provides transportation if it is needed. Calls him to remind him to come to class and worship. Calls him if he does not attend. 120
Keeping the Saved Saved Pg 3 New Christian Program Each month, the family: Takes him to class. Ensures his children are in the proper classes. Sits with him during class and worship. Introduces him to their friends. Introduces him to the elders, deacons and ministers. 121
Keeping the Saved Saved Pg 3 New Christian Program Each month, the family: Takes him to lunch and dinner after worship. Teaches him one of the 14 fundamental lessons (See Resources section.) Gives him a building tour. 122
Keeping the Saved Saved Pg 3 New Christian Program Each month, the family: Ensures he fills out an activity sheet and begins working. Become friends. Then, he moves on to the next family, and does it again for 14 times. 123
Keeping the Saved Saved Pg 3 New Christian Program Two of the elders visit within the first week: introduce themselves, welcome him, give him a welcome packet, tell him about the new Christian program. 124
Keeping the Saved Saved Pg 3 New Christian Program Visitation teams should visit him for 5 to 8 weeks so he will also meet a number of other members. Program must be well coordinated and overseen to work. 125
Keeping the Saved Saved Pg 3 The Challenge of Mature Christians Have you ever wondered.. What ever happened to Johnny and Janie? I haven t seen them for a while. Have you ever looked at a directory that is 2 or 3 or 4 years old and noticed how many names are just gone? 126
Keeping the Saved Saved Pg 3 Mathew 18: How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray? 13And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray. 127
Keeping the Saved Saved Pg 4 The Challenge of Mature Christians Anchor Team Program Let no one fall through the cracks. When a person misses 2 consecutive weeks and no one knows why: Send personalized card(s) by individual members who are their friends. 128
Keeping the Saved Saved Pg 4 The Challenge of Mature Christians Anchor Team Program After missing 3 consecutive weeks: Add them to the visitation team list and visit them twice. 129
Keeping the Saved Saved Pg 4 The Challenge of Mature Christians Anchor Team Program After 5 consecutive weeks: Give their name to the elders for their follow-up (who will visit them.) 130
Keeping the Saved Saved Pg 4 The Challenge of Mature Christians Anchor Team Program How to keep track of this? Most people always sit in the same section so The first level is for each of us to just look around and see who is missing. 131
Keeping the Saved Saved Pg 4 The Challenge of Mature Christians Anchor Team Program The second level is to break the auditorium into sections or Anchor Teams with an Anchor Team Captain who checks to see who is not in his normal seat. 132
Keeping the Saved Saved Pg 4 The Challenge of Mature Christians Anchor Team Program Third Level Check the attendance cards. Fourth Level Check the class attendance rolls. 133
Keeping the Saved Saved Pg 4 The Challenge of Mature Christians Anchor Team Program Then begin the card and visitation program. The goal is to break pattern of consecutive misses and restore faithfulness. 134
Local Evangelism Methods Pg 4 Several Guiding Principles. Each member is responsible for evangelism and each of us has unique talents so there must be an opportunity for every single one of us to make valuable contributions. 135
Local Evangelism Methods Pg 4 Several Guiding Principles. The Biblical method of evangelism is to preach Christ and Him crucified. 136
Local Evangelism Methods Pg 4 Several Guiding Principles 75-90% of all members of the church initially studied because of a personal relationship with someone in the church, (Andrew brought Peter to Jesus) and we each have relationships with people outside the church. 137
Local Evangelism Methods Pg 4 Several Guiding Principles It generally takes at least 7 contacts for a person to respond to a request. Most people quit asking after making 4 contacts. 138
Local Evangelism Methods Pg 4 Several Guiding Principles When visitors at worship service are asked to study the Bible depending upon how they are asked, a great many of them say yes. 139
Local Evangelism Methods Pg 4 Several Guiding Principles To remain faithful, each new member must immediately and continually learn, become active in the work of the church make a least one friend he can sit and visit with make at least 5 good friends within 6 months. 140
Quarterly special events Pg 5 Use events to create excitement when asking people with whom they have a relationship to visit our services. Focal Point Include: Guest speaker. Biblical topic of interest to the community. Noon meal. 141
Quarterly special events Pg 5 Focal Point Ask each member to submit the names and addresses of the guests whom they would like to be invited. 142
Quarterly special events Pg 5 143
Quarterly special events Pg 5 Focal Point Ask each member to personally invite each of their guests by giving them a brochure about the event and asking them to come. 144
Quarterly special events Pg 5 Focal Point Elders invite each of these guests by mailing them a brochure and a letter inviting them to the event. 145
Quarterly special events Pg 5 Focal Point Conduct a door-knocking by going to the home of each guest, giving them a brochure, and inviting them to come. 146
Quarterly special events Pg 5 Focal Point Mail to each guest the publication House to House, Heart to Heart. Also keep copies in the tract rack. 147
Quarterly special events Pg 5 Focal Point Repeat this process for each guest until they have been invited to at least 4 quarterly events or they obey the Gospel, or they ask us to stop inviting them, whichever comes first. 148
Quarterly special events Pg 5 Focal Point When the guests arrive at the building, ensure the member who invited them sits with them, visits with them, eats the meal with them, and ensures they are asked to study the Bible. 149
Quarterly special events Pg 5 Focal Point People to Invite - My Guest List People I know from work, school, civic clubs, arts organizations and sports teams. People who help my children and grandchildren like their teachers, coaches and activity sponsors. 150
Quarterly special events Pg 5 Focal Point People to Invite-My Guest List People who help me like my doctors, nurses, therapists, dentists, and their staffs. my insurance agent, lawyer, tax preparer, hair dresser or barber, plumber, electrician, and auto mechanic. 151
Quarterly special events Pg 5 Focal Point People to Invite-My Guest List People who handle my lawn care and pest control. People who live in each of the houses that border mine. 152
Newsletter Evangelism Pg 5 Pass out a series of about 25 different newsletters to homes in your area. Like a newspaper route for about 3 months. The people get to know about the congregation through these newsletters and form a very favorable impression of the church. 153
Newsletter Evangelism Pg 5 Then knock their doors, visit with them and invite them attend worship and study the Bible. Because the newsletters have already introduced the church to them, you will find them pleased to visit with you. The percentage of people who will study can go as high as 25%. 154
Door-knocking Campaign Pg 6 Many people say this no longer works. We have done this every year since 1976, Though we have always done it without the newsletter program. (quite new) 155
Door-knocking Campaign Pg 6 We have found that: 1 of 40 people will schedule a Bible study. 1 of 3 of these people will actually show up to study 1 of 2 of the people who study will obey the Gospel. 30 is the average number of people who obey the Gospel on a week-long campaign. 156
Door-knocking Campaign Pg 6 The campaign is designed to: Give the residents of the town the opportunity to learn and obey the Gospel plan of salvation. Provide an opportunity for us fulfill the commands of the Great Commission. 157
