4 Digital TV** Remote Control The Amino remote control is designed to complement your Amino STB. The remote is universal capable of controlling your basic TV functions as well as your Amino set-top box. The remote control operates in one of two modes, either STB mode or TV mode. The mode is selected by pressing the TV or STB mode-select button at the top of the remote. When pressed, the TV or STB mode select buttons illuminate for 1 second to indicate that the mode has been set. When any function button on the remote is pressed, the TV or STB button will light to indicate that a command is being transmitted in that mode. If a button has no valid function in that mode, neither the TV nor STB mode buttons will light. In the TV Mode When in the TV mode, the remote buttons control the following TV functions: Power Button Toggles the TV power. 1 TV Control Button Press this button to access the remote controls for the TV. Number Buttons Direct channel number entry allows direct entry of TV channel numbers. * Last Channel Toggles the TV between the last displayed TV channel and the current TV channel. * 3 Mute Button TV mute or un-mute. AV Button Cycles through the available AV inputs. 2 Channel Up or Down Allows you to change the TV channels up or down. * Volume Up or Down Allow you to adjust the TV volume up or down. Menu Button Displays the TV menu. 4 Info Tools Guide Exit Navigation & OK Allows you to navigate the TV menu. Press the OK button to make a selection. Notes 1 All TVs will power off with this button. Some TVs will switch on when the power button is next pressed and other TVs will only power on when Note * Changing your channel to anything but channel 3 will cause the signal from the STB to be lost. **Digital TV is an upgrade option. a channel button or channel +/- is pressed. 2 Some TVs will cycle through available AV inputs using the Channel +/- button. Other TVs only use the AV button to access the AV inputs. 3 Not all TVs support this function. 4 Some TVs use the menu, navigation and OK buttons to access settings that are not commonly changed (Closed-caption display, for example). Not all TVs support this function.

5 In the STB Mode When in the STB mode, the remote buttons control the following TV functions: Power Button Toggles the STB power. Number Buttons Allows direct entry of STB channel numbers. 1 STB Control Button Press this button to access the remote controls for the STB. Last Channel Toggles the STB between the last displayed STB channel and the current STB channel. Mute Button TV mute or un-mute. 2 AV Button Cycles through the available AV inputs. 2 Volume Up or Down Allow you to adjust the TV volume up or down. 2 Channel Up or Down Allows you to change the STB channels up or down. Navigation Colored navigation buttons. Rewind Rewind the movie. Info Tools Guide Exit Menu Button Displays the main menu. Navigation & OK Allows you to navigate the menus and Web pages. Press the OK button to make a selection. Play Play the movie. Fast Forward Fast forward the movie/ program. Record Record the movie. Pause Pause the movie/program. Refresh Refresh (reload) the current page. Stop Stop the movie/program. Page Control Scroll up and down the current page. Page Control View the previous page or the next page (if already visited). Notes 1 Text entry may not be supported by your set-top box. 2 These buttons control the TV functions in both TV mode and STB mode.

6 Main Menu Bar From the main menu bar, you can select any of the options described below to access those functions. Main menu bar left side options Main menu bar Right side options Guide Use the Guide to see what s on now or up to 24 hours in the future (the Search feature searches up to two weeks in the future see the Search section for more information). Select Guide from the menu bar or press the yellow guide button on the remote. You can scroll through the contents with the blue arrows or use the Pg Fwd and Pg Down buttons at the bottom of the remote. Pg Fwd moves the guide forward 12 hours at a time. Pg Down moves to the next page of channels. Channel names in white letters show channels in your package. Black letters show channels not in your package. Select Guide from top menu An arrow to the left of the program name means the program has already started. If you select a program that has not started yet and press OK, you will be given the option to record that program Guide listings and program description Set Reminder menu (only if your set-top box is a DVR), set a reminder for the program or schedule an event. If you highlight a program, a brief description of the program will appear in the upper right corner of the screen. Schedule Event menu If you hit the yellow Guide button more than once, the guide will rotate between All, Subscribed and your favorite channel lineup, if you have selected favorites. All shows all channels, Subscribed shows the channels in your package and your favorites lists show channels you have selected. See the Favorites section for instructions on programming your favorites. See the Search section for information on searching for a program by name. On Demand Selecting On Demand displays the menu shown. Select a category to view its On Demand contents.

7 On Demand menu Program and information Use the left arrow button on the remote to go back to the main On Demand menu from within a category. When you highlight a program, program information, including the price, appears in the upper-right corner of the screen. Highlight a title and press OK to view the program or a trailer (if available) for the program. Share rental and enter PIN screen When you have selected a program, select View and enter your PIN. Clicking Share Rental allows other users in your home to view the program from their vault. Vault On Demand content, program reminders and messages are stored in your vault. Vault main menu Vault contents and information Scheduled reminder Menu options for selected vault item Click a video title to play an On Demand program. Click a reminder to view its contents. Click Messages to view important video service messages. If you receive a message when you are not viewing TV, a message alert will appear on the menu bar.

8 Parental Controls How to set and unlock parental controls. To access parental controls, push Menu on the remote and go to Settings. Enter your password and push OK The default password is Using the Parental Control: Change button will ONLY change parental controls for the master account. To create a new user or to set parental controls for a different user, click the Users tab. To add a new user, click the Add button. Access parental controls from the preferences tab in settings Create a name and password for the user. To enter letters, hold down the corresponding number key until the correct letter appears on the screen. Users tab selected Create new user screen Set an allowance to limit the amount the user can spend each month on viewing services like Video On Demand. Enter the master PIN and press Continue. The default PIN is Once you have created a user, set parental controls by selecting the name from the Users page. User parental controls Select the Parental Controls button and use the drop-down menus next to Movie and TV rating to choose the HIGHEST rating the user will be allowed to view. Movies are rated by the MPAA; TV ratings are set by the FCC. You can also choose to block specific content by checking the Content Rating boxes. This will block programs with the checked content listed in the rating. When you have set controls, click Done to save your settings. Master account parental controls To enable the parental controls you set for a user, you must return to the Preferences page and select Parental Control: Change. Check Enable Parental Control and click Done to save your changes. Unlock Parental Controls A Blocked message will appear when you go to a blocked channel. Push the Menu button and select Parental Control. Enter the master password to unlock parental controls.

9 THIS WILL UNLOCK CONTROLS FOR ALL CHANNELS FOR THE AMOUNT OF TIME SET IN UNLOCK TIMEOUT. The timer counts down from the last use of the remote not when controls are unlocked. You must select Parental Control from the menu to re-lock the channels. Turning the TV off will NOT reset the controls. NOTE: Changing parental controls settings will affect ALL of your TVs. The Settings option will only appear in the menu for the master account. Video signal blocked Settings The Settings option appears only when signed into the master account. You must enter your password to access the Settings menu. Selecting a box and pressing OK will either check or uncheck the option. Main settings screen Always press OK to make change effective When changing your settings, always press OK to make the change effective. PREFERENCES Checking Make Rentals Private keeps rentals from the master account from being available in user account vaults. Checking Enable login means users will have to sign in after a previous user has signed out. Checking this option allows parental control settings to be effective for user accounts. Non-PPV/Autotune allows you to choose how far in advance the TV auto tunes to your preset programs. You can set Parental Controls and Channel Blocking only for the master account from this screen. Information for blocked channels WILL NOT show up, even if you have checked show info. Information for content blocked because of parental controls settings WILL appear if you have checked show info. Parental control screen Channel blocking screen You may choose to block unrated programs please keep in mind that many children s programs are unrated. See the Parental Controls section for more information about setting Parental Controls and Channel Blocking.

10 Users This is where you can create new users and set parental controls for a user. See the Parental Controls section for more information. The Users tab Packages This screen is not applicable. For your security, you cannot change your package. You will need to call Customer Support to make any changes. Billing This screen shows the On Demand charges to your account. Hardware Settings Keyboard Setting This option is not used at this time. Billing tab and menu TV System and Audio Settings TV Display Format lets you choose from Standard, Letterbox and Widescreen format. If you are watching a standard screen format picture (4 X 3) on a widescreen TV, you will see black bars on the side of the picture. Click the Hardware Settings button to make changes Choose TV system and audio settings If the picture is widescreen and your TV screen is a standard 4 X 3, you will see black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. If you have a Standard Definition TV, DO NOT CHANGE THE TV STANDARD TO HD. If you do, your TV will not work. If you choose any TV standard not compatible with your TV, you will not be able to change it back. Make sure you check your TV information to find out which setting is the right one. TV system and audio settings where you set the specifics for your TV For best reception, leave the RF Channel on 3. Currently the primary and secondary language options are not used. If your TV doesn t have closed captioning, you can use the STB decoder option to view closed captions. Make sure to click Save Changes to apply new settings. You must reboot your set-top box for new Hardware Settings to take effect. Unplug the power cord for about 10 seconds to reboot.

11 Favorites Selecting Favorites displays the menu below. Favorites main menu Favorites options menu Selecting Choose allows you to select a favorites list. When you select a list, that list is activated if you scroll through channels, only channels on the list you selected will appear. The Edit option lets you make changes to your lists. Use the arrows and press OK to check or uncheck the channels on the list. Click the green arrow at the bottom of the screen to see more channels. Create a new favorites list by selecting Create. To change the list name from Favorites, select the list name box. Press the number key for the corresponding letter until the appropriate letter appears. Use the arrows and press OK to select the channels you want to be on the list. (Tip: it may be easier to use the default Favorites title.) Select Delete to delete a list. Edit or Create Favorites screen Cancel returns you to the previous screen. You can press OK on the remote from any channel to add that channel to a favorites list. Search Use the Search option to look for a program by name. Main Search menu Search options Select Search and use the on-screen keyboard to enter all or part of the program name you want to find. For example, entering I love or Lucy returns results for I Love Lucy. Select Search Guide or Search On Demand. Choosing an Extended search looks two weeks ahead. A Quick search looks one day ahead. Search results When you find the program you are looking for, you can set a reminder for the program or set your DVR (if your set-top box is a DVR) to record it later. If you select a program in progress, your TV will go to that channel.

12 DVR This is where you access your recorded programs and schedule new recordings. Click the DVR icon in the main menu to access the DVR features DVR menu The option selected displays with an arrow at the right and the content is listed on the right-hand side. Recordings allows you to see what content you have already recorded. Select a title and press OK to view the program. To see what programs you have scheduled to record, select To Record. Schedule event menu To schedule a new recording, select Schedule event. Select the channel, date and time you want to record. The name of the program will display at the top of the screen. You can change the frequency (see highlighted orange box in screen above) from one time to weekly, every Monday Friday or every day. You can also schedule DVR recordings by using the Search feature or the Guide and selecting a program. Press OK and choose Record. See the Search and Guide sections for more information on finding a program. Sign Out Select Sign Out when you are finished watching TV so the next time it s turned on the viewer will be asked to log in. This ensures the proper parental controls will be activated for each viewer. If you do not see Sign Out in the menu bar, you have not selected Enable Login under the Settings option. If login is not enabled, your TV will not ask for a password when you or someone else turns it on and the master account will remain active.

If you choose not to upgrade, you may purchase an Mstar account for a small per-month charge. Call the Mstar Sales department at for more information access using a computer-based program To access your Mstar using a computer-based program such as Outlook, use the settings below. Server type is POP or POP3. address is the Mstar username you created followed (example: johndoe@mstarmetro.net). Password is the password you created for your Mstar account. The incoming mail server is pop.mstarmetro.net. The outgoing mail server is smtp.mstarmetro.net. The outgoing server requires authentication make sure to enable authentication on the outgoing mail server.

14 Premium Phone Package* Web Portal Web Portal login page Your Web Portal allows you to set or change the features on your phone from anywhere you have Web access. Go to net and enter your username and password. Your username is your ten-digit phone number and your default password is mstar plus the last four digits of your phone number (ex: mstar1234). Use the menu on the left to navigate through your phone options. When you make changes to any feature, make sure you click Apply or OK to save your settings. The Help link in the upper-right corner of the screen displays information about the feature you are viewing. After you log in, you will be taken to the phone main page. Clicking this link on any page will take you to a help page for that feature This is the help page for Call Forwarding Always Note * The Premium Phone Package is an upgrade option. Voice Portal You can access your Voice Portal the same way you access your voic . Press * at the menu to go to your Voice Portal. Follow the prompts to change your recorded name, Call Forwarding options or your pass code. Advanced Phone Features Log in to your Web Portal to see all phone features, including CommPilot Express, a Web-based call manager that allows you to easily establish conference calls or cut and paste a telephone number from the Web to have your phone automatically dial the number. Incoming Calls Anonymous Call Rejection Choose to reject calls from callers not sharing their caller ID information (this setting won t block unavailable numbers). Rejected callers are informed that you are not accepting calls from unidentified callers and you won t even know they called.

15 Log in to the Web Portal and select Anonymous Call Rejection under Incoming Calls to activate this feature. Call Forwarding When you can t be near your Mstar phone, redirect your incoming calls to a different phone number like an office, cell or travel phone. You can choose Call Forwarding Always to forward all your calls, Call Forwarding Busy or No Answer to forward calls only when your line is busy or you do not answer, or Call Forwarding Selective to forward calls only from specific numbers. Set Call Forwarding Always, No Answer and Busy from your Mstar phone by dialing the appropriate star code (see page 19 for a list of codes). At the prompt, enter the number where you will receive forwarded calls. You can deactivate Call Forwarding at any time by dialing the star code for deactivation (see page 19). You can set all Call Forwarding options from the Web you don t even have to be near your phone! Log in to your Web Portal and select Call Forwarding Always, Call Forwarding Busy, Call Forwarding No Answer or Call Forwarding Selective under Incoming Calls. Call Notify Receive an message with the name and number of your incoming calls. You ll always know if you ve missed any important calls even if you re not home. Log in to the Web Portal and select Call Notify under Incoming Calls to set up Call Notify. Do Not Disturb When you don t want your phone to ring, turn on Do Not Disturb and send all your calls directly to voic . Dial *78 on your Mstar phone to activate Do Not Disturb. When you re ready to receive calls again, dial *79 to deactivate the feature. You can also set Do Not Disturb preferences on the Web. Log in to your Web Portal and select Do Not Disturb under Incoming Calls. Calling Line ID Delivery Your caller ID is automatically activated for you and displays the information for incoming calls. If you do not wish to see the names and numbers of callers, you can deactivate this setting by logging into the Web Portal and selecting Incoming Calls. Internal Calling Lne ID shows the caller ID of other Mstar customers when calling you. External Calling Lne ID shows the information for all other callers. Priority Alert Make your phone ring differently for specific incoming calls if you want to know when your boss or spouse is calling, for example. Log in to the Web Portal and select Priority Alert under Incoming Calls to set up this feature. Selective Call Acceptance Choose to accept only the calls you specify. Rejected callers hear a message that you are not accepting calls. Log in to your Web Portal and go to Selective Call Acceptance under Incoming Calls to specify which calls to accept. Selective Call Rejection Choose to reject specific calls. Rejected callers hear a message that you are not accepting calls. Log in to your Web Portal and go to Selective Call Rejection under Incoming Calls to specify which calls you wish to reject. Sequential Ring Have incoming calls ring up to five sequential locations after your primary phone when your number is busy or there is no answer. The caller will hear a comfort message every 20 seconds during the ring sequence and you can give the caller the option to terminate Sequential Ring by pushing #. If none of the numbers get an answer or if the caller pushes #, the caller is directed to voic .

16 Log in to the Web Portal and select Sequential Ring under Incoming Calls to set your preferences for this feature. NOTE: The set number of rings before Sequential Ring begins is shared with other no-answer services such as Voic and Call Forwarding No Answer. Changing the number of rings in any of these services will affect the other services as well. Simultaneous Ring Have your incoming calls ring your phone number AND up to 10 other numbers at the same time. The first number to pick up answers the call. Log in to the Web Portal and select Simultaneous Ring under Incoming Calls to enter Simultaneous Ring locations and set preferences for this feature Outgoing Calls Line ID Blocking Activating Line ID Blocking prevents your caller ID information from being viewed on outgoing calls. If you wish to block your ID, log in to the Web Portal and click Outgoing Calls. Select Line ID Blocking to change your settings Speed Dial Speed Dial codes let you dial frequently called numbers without entering the entire phone number each time. You can program eight single-digit speed dial codes (Speed Dial 8) and 100 multi-digit speed dial codes (Speed Dial 100). To program Speed Dial 8 codes, dial *74 on your Mstar phone and enter the number to dial (for example, * programs Speed Dial code 3 to dial ). To dial a Speed Dial 8 number, press the Speed Dial code and then # (for example, to call the number assigned to Speed Dial code 3, dial 3#). You can also program Speed Dial codes from your Web Portal. Log in to the Web Portal and select Speed Dial 8 or Speed Dial 100 under Outgoing Calls. To dial a Speed Dial 100 number, press # and then the Speed Dial code. Call Control Call Waiting Call Waiting is automatically enabled and allows you to answer new calls while you are on the phone with another call. If Call Waiting is on, you will hear a beep when a new call comes in. Put the first call on hold by pressing the flash or hook button on your phone to answer the new call. If Call Waiting is NOT on, the new caller will hear a busy tone. If you wish to disable Call Waiting, dial *70 on your Mstar phone. You can also set Call Waiting preferences on the Web. Log in to the Web Portal and select Call Waiting under Call Control to activate or deactivate this feature. NOTE: All iprovo customers can have call waiting. If you don t have an external TA (see photo B Pg 1), you need to dial *61 to enable it or *60 to disable it not everyone can change it using the phone.mstarmetro.net Web Portal. Hold Put calls on hold by flashing the phone click the flash button or the hang-up button once. Dial *22 and make a second call. To toggle between calls, flash the phone again and dial *22. Three-way calls Hold a conference call from your Mstar phone. Answer or dial the first call as you would normally. When the call is connected, press the flash (or hang up button). This puts the initial call on hold. Dial the third party s phone number. You can press # to signal the end of the phone number. When the call is con-

17 nected, press flash again. All parties are now connected in a three-way call. To drop the last added party, press flash again. NOTE: If the second or third party hangs up, the other two parties remain connected. Messaging Greetings You can set up greetings for your voic through your Voice Portal or your Web Portal. You will be asked to record your name when you set up your voic . You can choose to use the standard system greeting with your name recorded or set up a personal greeting. Follow the prompts in your Voice Portal to record your own greeting, or log in to the Web Portal and select Greetings under Messaging. You can upload a.wav file from your computer to use as your personal greeting. Voice Management When you pick up your phone you may hear a short stutter tone a few short beeps before the dial tone. The stutter tone means you have new voice messages. If you don t want this notification of new messages, dial *99 on your phone or log in to the Web Portal and select Messaging. Click Voice Management and uncheck Use Phone Message Waiting Indicator. NOTE: This feature is not available to most customers in Provo. You can also choose to be notified via when you have new voic . Check the box in the Voice Management section and enter your address. If you want a carbon copy of your voice messages sent to your , check a carbon copy of the voice message to and enter your address in the box.
