7 Documentation Change! Teachers certified prior to 1998 SHOULD be able to utilize HOUSSE option #1 Why 1998? 9 years is the maximumm amount of time a teacher can work on a Provisional certificate without having earned the total of 18 semester credit hours necessary for either the SECOND PROVISIONAL RENEW WAL or the PROFESSIONAL certificate. 7

8 HOUSSE Options- Note: Three years of experience previously required has been retracted 1. have completed, after receiving their initial teaching certificate, a minimum of 18 semester hours in a core academic subject program of study or towards a master s or higher degree that supports the teaching of the core academic subject 8

11 18 Hour Planned Pro ogram (HOUSSE #1): content related not necessarily content specific Examples Methods of Teaching Math Reading in the Content Areas Integrating ti Technology (content t related) Strategies for Instructing Students with Learning Disabilities 11

12 HOUSSE Options 2. Have completed an individual professional development plan of 90 clock hours of pro ofessional development or 6 semester hours of coursework in the specific content area within the last five years 12

13 HOUSSE Options 3. Demonstrated competence, as outlined in a local performance assessment of the employing district or school such as a portfolio Multi-subject portfo olio for special education teachers is available on our website 13

14 HOUSSE Option #3 Components: Years of Teaching Experience College Level Course Work Content Specific Professional Development Activities Service to the Profession in the Content Area 14
