1 ROP -artist group (Tuomo Rosenlund b.1976 ja Pekko Orava b.1973) / / tuomotapio@yahoo.com ROP (2011-), is a work group formed by visual artist Tuomo Rosenlund and designer/woodworker Pekko Orava. Our works are painted sculptures where two-dimensional images are mixed with and presented on three-dimensional forms. The premise for our work is that they are artistically ambitious and of high technical quality. The works are targeted mainly for display in public interiors, art galleries and art museums. Typical materials are acrylics and oil on wood and plywood surfaces. The subject matter in ROP works reflects man's relation to the nature and the world, that is, to our living environment, on both spiritual and physical levels. Landscape-like views and fantasy visions repeatedly present in our works combine with real physical three-dimensional forms, either representational or abstract. This union creates multiple visual perspectives where the total is more than its constituting parts, also adding to the subject matter. Environments depicted in the works become symbolic notions in which the man is present only as through the marks left by his actions, or as a small anonymous character, playing his part in the great wholeness'. Working as ROP, Tuomo Rosenlund is responsible for artistical execution, drawing and painting, whereas Pekko Orava is responsible for technical detailing, form-giving and implementation of the sculpture. Most often the process starts with joint discussions and accumulation of ideas which are then refined into first sketches and basis for each work.
