2 President s Message President s Message Dear Prospective Students, Thank you for your interest in Massasoit Community College. With campuses in Brockton and Canton and our newest location in Middleborough, our students now have even more access to local, affordable, higher education. Massasoit Community College has over 50 degree and certificate programs and a variety of scheduling options day, evening, weekend, and online, to meet our students needs. At Massasoit, we are committed to access and opportunity for all our students. We provide small class sizes to allow for individualized attention. We also provide academic support, counseling, and advising to help our students reach their goals. Massasoit students are actively involved in one or more of the wide variety of extracurricular clubs, activities, and athletic teams that celebrate the diversity of our community. 3 Massasoit At A Glance Brockton Campus Our 100-acre Brockton Campus offers eight modern classroom buildings, laboratory facilities, a 75,000-plus volume library, the Senator Anna P. Buckley Fine Arts Center (featuring two theaters, a television studio, a radio station, and a modern language lab), the Representative Peter G. Asiaf Field House (housing a swimming pool, basketball and racquetball courts, and a weight room), and access to public transportation via the BAT bus system. Canton Campus The Canton Campus is a multi-level facility set on 18 beautiful acres. Many fully equipped, modern laboratories, classrooms, and extensive library are available. The campus is home to the Milton Art Museum and the Akillian Gallery. Middleborough Center Massasoit Community College moved into the former Lincoln D. Lynch Elementary School in 2010 and it became the College s Middleborough Center. The Center is now a modern, bright, facility with brand new science labs, classroom space and equipment. The Middleborough Center offers day and evening classes, close to home in a collegiate and comfortable setting. We offer full associate degree program completion in Middleborough in liberal arts, business, criminal justice, and childhood education, as well as variety of prerequisite courses, workforce development and community education courses. 6 Selective Admissions Programs Selective Admissions Programs The open enrollment policy does not apply to selective admissions programs of study which may have specific deadlines, prerequisites, and other admissions criteria. All applicants must submit a completed application form, official high school transcript certifying date of graduation or an official GED transcript, and all official college transcripts. Applicants must submit a letter of reference and a letter of interest. Applicants must attend an information session. Most selective admissions programs require an extensive science background which may include college level Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and Microbiology. Priority consideration will be given to applicants who have successfully completed prerequisite courses with a grade of B or better and all applicants will be scored using a rubric. 7 Student Support Services Academic Resource Center (ARC) The Academic Resource Center (ARC) offers a full range of tutoring and academic support services. Individual and small group tutoring is available in most subject areas by appointment, and walk-in tutoring is available in several subject areas such as mathematics and biological sciences. Appointments are strongly recommended. Within the Academic Resource Center are the Writing Center and World Language Center which provide tutoring for reading and writing across the curriculum and for ESL students. Faculty, professional, special needs, paraprofessional, and student tutors work together to help students become more effective, independent learners. Students are encouraged to use the ARC, Writing Center and World Language Center as places to study, either individually or with classmates. For more information please call: (508) , ext Disability Services The goal of the disability service providers at Massasoit Community College is to facilitate equal access to postsecondary education for students with disabilities and promote the standards set forth by the Association on Higher Education and Disabilities. Upon acceptance to the College, students with documented disabilities who require support services and/or accommodations are given the opportunity to identify a disability. As soon as possible, students are encouraged to contact one of the disability service providers and self-identify. It is recommended that students schedule an appointment to meet with the disability provider to discuss the need for specific services and accommodations and bring the appropriate documentation with them to the meeting. While at Massasoit Community College I became involved in Dramatikos, the student drama club. I have performed in a Broadway Revue, ushered for the Massasoit Theatre Company productions and did a volunteer performance at St. Joseph s Manor as part of our club s community service project. 8 Student Support Services Latch LATCH is an academic support program that assists a variety of students. The most common is the first semester student in school looking for help adjusting to college generally and for help in reading, writing, or math skills specifically. LATCH courses are identical to those offered throughout the College. LATCH offers Tutoring on a drop-in basis Counselors who are experienced at helping a student choose the right courses for that individual Individual interviews with counselors at least twice during a semester Workshops designed to help a student with such things as identifying a learning style, finding an appropriate career for choosing a major course of study in college LATCH services are also for adults who have been away from school for several years, students who have not maintained good academic standing, students needing emotional support to succeed in college, students referred by high school guidance counselors, special needs students with academic potential, students needing to develop academic skills and community agency referrals. For more information please call: (508) , ext Plan The PLAN Program is a TRIO Student Support Services Program funded under a grant from the United States Department of Education. PLAN stands for the Proactive Learning Assistance Network. The goal of the program is to assist students with their academic and personal needs by providing an array of comprehensive support services. The potential benefits of these additional services include better grades; improved chances of graduation; assistance with transferring to a four-year institution to obtain a bachelor s degree; more defined educational and career goals; and an enhanced academic experience. The Program is designed for students who have the academic potential to succeed but whose background and/or extenuating life circumstances place those students at additional risk of not fulfilling their educational goals. The program offers academic and vocational college level courses, personal support and academic advising, assessment and career counseling, and workshops in personal skill development. 9 Your College / Your Campus Bookstore The campus bookstore is a Barnes & Noble college bookstore with a physical location on both the Brockton and Canton campuses. You can buy, rent or order textbooks online or in-store. Show your Massasoit pride with various apparel, souvenirs, and other merchandise. Cafeteria The Massasoit Food Service offers a full service cafeteria on our Brockton and Canton campuses. We continue to increase healthy options and environmentally friendly products such as fresh made salads, daily grain options, soy milks, reduced fats, more whole grains, healthy candy and snacks, and gluten free options. Ninety percent of the service paper products in the cafeteria are compostable. We offer a full meal option during the academic year, as well as grill foods, soups, pizza, and made to order sandwiches and salads. Gym/Pool/Weight Room Housed in the Peter G. Asiaf Field House is a beautiful gymnasium where our intercollegiate basketball teams play their home games. Aside from games and practices, there are three basketball courts running cross court as well as a full length court running through the middle of the gymnasium. The gymnasium is also home to many indoor intramural activities. Massasoit also has a beautiful 25-yard pool available for our students, staff, and their guests when lifeguards are on duty. Both the weight room and racquetball court are located on the lower level of the Field House. Health Services The Health Services offices on the Brockton and Canton campuses provide preventative and primary health care, health education and health counseling. For more information please call: (508) , Brockton, ext.1450, Canton, ext Shuttle The inter-campus shuttle is a great way to explore both the Brockton and Canton campuses without driving yourself. The shuttle departs the Brockton Campus from the front entrance of the Student Center (next to the BAT bus stop) and departs the Canton Campus from the front entrance of the Administration building. The shuttle also provides full, handicap access and runs on a regular schedule. Veterans Center The Veterans Center is located in the lower level of the Student Center Building on the Brockton campus. It is open to all military members, veterans, and their families attending Massasoit Community College. The center has full-time staff to help you with educational/financial benefits including VA certifying; a dedicated Veterans Counselor with 20 years of military service; a lounge area; computer workstations and a multimedia-enabled conference area, all in a relaxing, collegial atmosphere. Through the Student Life Office, we provide a comprehensive program that includes lectures, movies, and other social and cultural activities. For this reason, the Massasoit Athletic Hall of Fame was founded with the purpose of recognizing the extraordinary accomplishments of individuals and teams. To be eligible for intercollegiate athletics, students must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours/semester and maintain a 2.0 gpa.

12 Learning Options Online Learning Online Learning provides a way for you to customize your learning experience to match your educational goals, learning styles, and scheduling constraints. At Massasoit, Online Learning students enjoy the convenience and flexibility of learning at a distance and at a place and time that s right for them. Every Online Learning course meets or exceeds the academic rigor and content found in traditional college courses while using proven interactive teaching strategies to engage and involve learners. For more information please call: (508) , ext Weekend College In an effort to continue to meet the needs of our busy students, Massasoit offers courses on the weekends on Friday evenings, all day and evening on Saturday and Sundays until 5 p.m. This allows students the ability to match educational goals, learning styles and scheduling constraints. English as a Second Language The E.S.L. Department offers advanced college-level courses that have been specifically designed for students whose first language is not English and who need to develop their English proficiency to a level appropriate for college courses in an American college curriculum. Students who wish to take E.S.L. courses must be evaluated by the E.S.L. Department before enrolling. 13 MassTransfer Massasoit students who plan to transfer to the University of Massachusetts or one of the Massachusetts state universities can participate in MassTransfer, a statewide program designed to facilitate transfer within the public higher education system in the Commonwealth. MassTransfer provides Massasoit students who complete designated associate degree programs with the benefits of full transfer and applicability of credit, guaranteed admission (2.5 or higher GPA), and a tuition discount (3.0 or higher GPA). MassTransfer also provides students the intermediate goal of completing a portable general education transfer block which will satisfy the general education / distribution / core requirements across institutions. There are many ways students can transfer to a four-year institution beyond just MassTransfer State agreements. Massasoit students will find that there are many options for transferring to four-year institutions through established agreements Transfer Programs with Eastern Nazarene College Now you can earn your bachelor s degree at Massasoit. How? Complete an associate s degree at Massasoit, then transfer to Eastern Nazarene College. Take your courses at the Massasoit campus to complete your junior and senior year of college to earn your bachelors degree. Eastern Nazarene College agreements are in the following programs of study: Bachelor of Arts in Management Bachelor of Arts in Education Articulation/Transfer Agreements Massasoit Community College has collaborated with many private colleges and universities to sign formal articulation agreements in various programs of study. Articulation agreements commonly include transfer of Massasoit college-level credit and potential guaranteed admission. 17 Financial Aid Financial Aid Massasoit Community College participates in a number of federal, state and institutional financial aid programs to assist you in financing the cost of your education. Financial aid offered includes grants (free aid), scholarships, student loans, student work study (on-campus employment), and veterans benefits. We encourage you to determine your eligibility for financial assistance by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) each year available at How and When to Apply File the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) - available at beginning January 1 for the following summer, fall and spring semesters by our Priority Deadline of April 15 for the Fall (September) semester, and November 15 for the Spring (January) semester. Apply for financial aid as soon as possible after January 1. Do not wait to be accepted into a degree program by the Admissions Office. However, in order to meet the financial aid priority deadline of April 15 or November 15 you must also have submitted your Massasoit admissions application by these dates. Provide additional documentation, if requested. Priority Deadlines: April 15 for the Fall (September) semester, and November 15 for the Spring (January) semester. Financial aid funds are awarded year round on a first-come, first-served basis. If you apply after the Priority Deadline, your aid might not be available in time to satisfy your semester bill. There is also no guarantee that grant funds will be available if you miss the Priority Deadline. Student loans are available to students who miss our priority deadline. Eligibility Requirements You must be accepted into a degree program or eligible certificate program at Massasoit Community College and meet the eligibility requirements established by the federal and state guidelines.
