Thank you for choosing the School of Continuing Education (SCE) to continue your educational journey. We are proud to offer you a broad spectrum of educational opportunities for the SCE 2015 Spring Term that lead to academic, career, and life skill development success. As a member of the North Orange County Community College District, SCE students have a direct pathway to two of the best colleges in the state Cypress College and Fullerton College. In addition to the academic pathways available to you, we offer many career technical education programs designed to help you pursue a job or career in the local workforce. In addition to these academic and career options, we also have a multitude of community service classes for adults, teens, and kids to meet a variety of personal interests and goals. We encourage you to take advantage of the many student services available to support your success at SCE such as counseling, tutoring, or learning centers and computer labs. I am pleased that you have chosen SCE to continue your education and I look forward to seeing you in class at one of our three Centers or many community partner locations. Therefore, entry into this program is limited; enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis. ORIENTATION, ASSESSMENT and REGISTRATION are REQUIRED steps to enter the program. NEW students MUST complete the following steps to enter the High School Diploma Program: STEP 1: OBTAIN OFFICIALLY-SEALED TRANSCRIPTS FROM ALL PREVIOUSLY ATTENDED HIGH SCHOOLS. Officially-sealed means that the envelope from the institution CANNOT be opened. Any opened transcripts WILL NOT be accepted. Bring officially-sealed transcripts to the Assessment Session you will be attending. STEP 2: APPLY FOR AN SCE BANNER ID NUMBER (FORMERLY CALLED USER ID OR STUDENT ID ) Apply online at or visit any SCE Center Admissions and Registration office. You will need a BANNER ID number before you can complete Steps 3 and 4. Do not wait until registration opens to apply for a BANNER ID as the process may take up to 48 hours before you receive your ID number. In the Student Links box, scroll down and select SCE High School Online Orientation. D. Follow the directions and complete all sections of the SCE High School Online Orientation and pass a series of short quizzes. NOTE: If you do not pass the High School Online Orientation and try to register, you will receive an error message, cohort restriction, and you will not be able to register for an Assessment Session. You can take the Online Orientation several times to successfully complete and pass. E. 24 hours after you successfully pass the SCE High School Online Orientation, you will be eligible to register for a scheduled Assessment Session. F. Although you have successfully passed the orientation, you will need to still register for the Assessment Session in order to enter the program. Proceed to Step 4. STEP 4: REGISTER FOR A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA PROGRAM ASSESSMENT SESSION. What is the Assessment Session? The skill of reading is most important for success in the SCE High School Diploma Program. At this approximately two-hour session, students will be assessed (or tested) on their current reading level and comprehension abilities. This reading test is a timed test and is offered in English only. A. Refer to the chart on page 12. Choose the SCE Center location where you will attend the Assessment Session: Anaheim Campus, Cypress Center or Wilshire Center. The Center where you do your Assessment Session is the Center you must attend to complete your high school diploma. B. Register during Registration Period 1, 2 or 3. Note when registration opens and closes. If the session fills, the session will close earlier than the end date. C. Choose the Assessment Session date and time you wish to attend. Make note of the CRN (Course Reference Number). You will use this CRN to complete your online registration. If the CRN is closed, choose another date/time you wish to attend and register for that corresponding CRN. D. When coming to your Assessment Session, make note of the date, time and Center location. This will provide you a copy of your account, detailing that you are registered for the Assessment Session. Under Print Schedule/Bill select the term you want to view and then click Submit. Click View Schedule/Bill; then right click on your mouse anywhere on the page and select Print. Bring this printed copy of the Schedule/Bill to the Assessment Session for a proof of your registration. Your registration for the Assessment Session is now complete. The GED Preparation Lab staff help students in preparing to pass the GED online exam. Preparation includes math, science, social studies, and language arts as well as test taking skills such as keyboarding and calculator usage. The GED Preparation Lab staff assist students in creating their online profile at GED.com in order to sign-up for the official test at local centers. Practice tests will be administered to assess readiness for the official exam. The GED online exam is given one subject at a time. Each test costs $35.
