Final Project Design Document Christopher Harrigan Purpose: My e-portfolio website consists of primarily three objectives: Share my educational and professional achievements in the Instructional Technology Master s Program as a digital teaching and learning resource for educators of today and tomorrow Effectively demonstrate my abilities as a candidate for graduation in the Instructional Technology Master s Program Showcase my educational and career accomplishments throughout the Instructional Technology Program as an online resource to enhance my current occupation as an information technology professional and instructor in higher education, or potential career opportunities as an instructional designer or technology facilitator in other areas of education or private industry Achieving these e-portfolio objectives during the Instructional Technology Master s Program will demonstrate my ability to put educational theories and standards into practice, as follows: Apply International Society for Technology in Education- National Educational Technology Standards-Technology Facilitation (ISTE-NETS-TF) standards in teaching and learning, leadership, design and development, and professional development in the digital age Include use of Technological Pedagogical And Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework in curriculum and instruction Effectively support teaching and learning through seamless integration of technology Provide technology facilitation/leadership skills through successful planning and implementation of instructional technology projects Design and develop websites for effective use with educational instruction Ongoing professional development in technology facilitation, leadership, teaching and learning, and instructional design and development Instructional Technology, Educational Foundations and Leadership 1

Needs Assessment: Given there are primarily three objectives for my e-portfolio, multiple needs for the web site will emerge from various audiences in education and private industry, such as K-16 educators, college faculty, and employers. For each objective, the target audience may comprise of the following: E-Portfolio Website Objectives Educational/Career Resource Graduation Career Enhancement Intended Audience Educational Administrators, Technology Facilitators/Leaders, K-16 Educators/Teachers/ Students College Professors Employers After some conversations and interviews with K-16 educators and Master s students about their expectations from an educational e-portfolio, particularly from an instructional technology perspective, they expressed a sincere interest in best practices and effective methods of integrating technology with curriculum to ensure student success in the 21 st century. In addition, they indicated the significance of the Common Core State Standards Initiative (CCSSI), including the need for teaching strategies and resources related to College and Career Ready Standards as part of the CCSSI, which will be beneficial in educational e-portfolios, especially with CCSSI currently in progress. As for college faculty expectations from the e-portfolio, including course requirements from the Instructional Technology Master s Program, the website will exhibit my growth in knowledge and proficiency I have attained in achieving my graduation requirements. Since the e-portfolio is required for graduation, the e-portfolio requirements have been clearly communicated in the Instructional Technology Master Program e-portfolio Instruction document provided at the onset in the Introduction to Instructional Technology course. The rubric outlines all e-portfolio requirements which include e-portfolio sections, course artifacts, professional/career/field experiences, alignment document, and course/field experience reflections. In terms of career enhancement, and in conversations with employers in government, education, or private industry, more specifically education, common expectations in an e-portfolio include relevant professional experience and education with current skills in instructional technology, but also highlight key career achievements and how they truly benefit education today. According to career and human resources professionals, showcasing your career talents and accomplishments, and the strong desire to learn and grow, are critical to attaining your career goals. Instructional Technology, Educational Foundations and Leadership 2

Audience: As described in the Needs Assessment, given my purpose includes multiple website objectives, target audiences will comprise of the following: E-Portfolio Website Objectives Educational/Career Resource Graduation Career Enhancement Intended Audience Educational Administrators, Technology Facilitators/Leader, K-16 Educators/Teachers/Students College Professors Employers Initial users of my e-portfolio website may be my classmates in the course Multimedia/Hypermedia (M/H) class as they may be required to review and critique my website online and during a M/H class presentation. Additionally, my instructor will evaluate my current progress with the e-portfolio to ensure it meets M/H course final project requirements, and at the same time determine if is on track with the Instructional Technology e-portfolio requirements for graduation. Furthermore, upon completion of the Instructional Technology Program, college faculty will evaluate my e-portfolio website to assess my competencies and determine my candidacy for graduation. Potential users of this e-portfolio will also include future Instructional Technology students who may need a better understanding, information or ideas in developing their e-portfolio websites. Current educators may also visit my website as an instructional technology resource in their profession as a teacher, technology facilitator/leader, or administrator. In addition, educators may consider my e-portfolio as part of a learning community with the opportunity to share educational or professional resources, strategies, and ideas. Potential employers may reference my e-portfolio website as well to ascertain my professional experience as an Information Technology professional in higher education or a college instructor, and to evaluate my ability to integrate instructional design and technology facilitation not only in my coursework but as field experiences in my career. Instructional Technology, Educational Foundations and Leadership 3

Content/Subject and its fit with web site goals: E-Portfolio website content/subject will be designed in accordance with the rubric provided by Instructional Technology Master s Program e-portfolio Instruction document. It will include both academic and professional experience relating to the ISTE NETS-TF standards, which will meet the goals of the website as an instructional technology information resource for current and future educators, a showcase of accomplishments for faculty evaluation as a candidate for graduation, and a digital display of career achievements for employers. Content includes course artifacts and potential field experiences as outlined below: Home Page o Welcome Leadership o Course Artifacts Planning for Technology Technology Plan Evaluation Grant Writing Proposal o Field Experience Plan and implement delivery of computer-based COMPASS placement tests to Akron area high schools, University of Akron (UA) Main Campus offices, and UA Regional Centers. 6 Resources o External links to websites Additional Content o About Me o Contact Information o Resume Page Presentation of information: E-Portfolio website information will be designed and organized for ease of use with visitors initially landing on a standard Home Page. On the Home Page users will find the navigation tools user-friendly with access to most all other web pages in one to three clicks. As for those users with a navigation preference, they may choose from a horizontal menu bar or a vertical sidebar. Course artifacts, field experiences, and reflections content will also be arranged consistently on each page to ensure easy access to information. In addition, appropriate use of images will be used to make website interesting and engaging to users. As for the bottom of each web page, a footer will display copyright, page update status, and contact information. Website Home Page Mockup Instructional Technology, Educational Foundations and Leadership 6

Rationale for organization: Standard navigation bars, both horizontal and vertical, are vital on each web page as both will allow users easy access to most all web pages in one to three clicks. Every web page will display in a consistent manner to maintain ease of navigation and access to desired information. Some web pages may vary slightly due to the nature of the information presented to users, but will definitely be consistent from a navigational standpoint. For each web page selection chosen from the navigation bar, the content will be arranged consistently with an introduction, an image, and two columns with one side clearly showcasing course artifacts and the other one field experiences. Presenting the content in this manner for each web page will maintain organization and user focus on a particular topic of the e-portfolio website. Media, acquisition or development, and rationale for using: Media used for my e-portfolio website will primarily be sourced from the Internet and may consist of any one or more of the following: Personal audios, videos, or photos where appropriate Free images, audios, or videos where appropriate o Use will be in compliance with fair use and copyright laws o Required credits will be posted appropriately. PowerPoint videos/presentations used professionally will be included as field experiences Flash technology utilized to display educational quotes where appropriate E-Portfolio will include websites personally designed and developed for professional use Adobe PDF files for use as course artifacts and field experiences Color scheme and rationale: The color scheme for the e-portfolio website, as shown in image below, will consist primarily of three colors: dark gray header, tan body, horizontal navigation bar link tabs tan with orange text, vertical navigation bar links with orange text, and an orange horizontal bar between the header and body. The rationale for this color scheme originated when I searched for website templates, and as a result discovered Google sites designated this template for use with e-portfolios. It immediately caught my attention with its engaging but subtle contrast in colors, and since it has a primarily a light background color with dark text to allow ease of viewing and/or reading. Color scheme, including overall web design and navigation, is uniform and consistent across all web pages to ensure ease of navigation and access to information. Color scheme will also be enhanced by appropriate use of images throughout the website. Instructional Technology, Educational Foundations and Leadership 7
