2 CURRICULUM INTEGRATION RESOURCES Active Learning Strategies Using Technology Extend proven active learning strategies using free online technology tools to experience the connection between technology, active learning, and teaching. Active learning is the process of engaging students as participants in their own learning. This session will focus on the application of technology tools to enhance active learning strategies, including collaborative learning in a back-channel discussion, KWL creation through online whiteboards, think-pair-share using online audio recorders and concept mapping with electronic graphic organizers or mind maps. NETS-T: 2b, 3a, 4b Adobe InDesign for the ipad InDesign has some great features for interactivity on the ipad that are pretty easy to use. Digital books, magazines and apps are all possible to create in InDesign. Come and learn how to make slide shows that change photos with a swipe of the finger, make objects twirl, insert audio and video files and program the buttons control the files, all without needing to do any coding! Scrolling content, pan and zoom, links, and web content will also be covered. Bring your ipad and charger. Before class, download the free Adobe Content Viewer app. NETS-T: 3c, 3b, 5b, 4a Creativity through Makerspaces There is a movement in K-12 education called the maker movement that is designed around the idea of engaging students with critical thinking and creativity through designing and making things. Schools around the country are incorporating makerspaces in school library media centers and other flexible learning areas. Participants in this workshop will learn about maker spaces, resources for creating a maker space in your building, and curriculum focused projects to engage students in making stuff. Flipped Learning educators provide students access to digital content in order to shift some of their instruction outside of group time. This allows class time to be utilized for higher-level activities such as projects, concept exploration and application, small group discussions, as well as differentiated instruction. Success in the flipped classroom requires student access to intentionally created or curated content, so that students can come to class prepared to explore and apply what they've learned. Participants in this workshop will learn how to create video lessons that will engage student interest and empower students to understand the material. Participants will explore different styles of video creation as they work with different recording software (including free options). Participants should bring content for a video lesson and will leave with a recording of their lesson. Recommended prerequisite: Instructional Planning for the Flipped Classroom. NETS-T: 4a, 4b, 4c, 4d, 1a, 1c, 2b Going Beyond the TED Talk Using TED and TED-Ed In the Classroom This session is designed to introduce participants to the wide variety of resources available on the TED website and how to use them in the classroom. During this session, participants will explore the TED website, and use the TED-Ed platform to choose video resources, add discussion prompts, short answers, quiz questions, and further research links to create an interactive flipped lesson to enhance classroom learning and instruction. NETS-T: 1c, 2a, 3c, 5a ibooks Author Creating Multi-Media Books for the ipad This workshop will take an in depth look at using ibooks Author to create materials, distributing the content to the ipad, and using the content in the ibooks app. This is a hands-on workshop with extensive work time so bring materials to create digital books. NETS-T: 1d, 2c, 2d, 3a Instructional Planning for Flipped Learning Flipped Learning is an approach to classroom instruction that ultimately changes how an educator s time is spent with students. Flipped Learning Educators provide students access to digital content in order to shift some of their instruction outside of group time. This allows class time to be utilized for higher-level activities such as projects, concept exploration and application, small group discussions, as well as differentiated instruction. Participants in this class will be guided through a process to rethink one of their lessons and corresponding in-class activities. Best practices from successful flipped classroom educators will be shared. The focus of this class is to guide teachers through how class time is spent in a flipped learning environment. This is not a video recording workshop.
