2 Course Material Material is available in Optima Lecture notes are lecture notes reading the course textbook(s) is also necessary. Emphasis can be concentrated on the contents covered on the notes. Unfortunately, no single complete course book available currently. Hint: Familiriaze yourself to the material already before the lecture! 3 Minor Exams At the end of the excercise sessions (not all of them) Calculus problems, correlated to the ones in excercises Graded and have an impact on the final grade Not compulsory for passing but practically needed for maximum grade 5/5 The most important benefit: continuous learning M. The minimum requirements for passing the course are to pass the final exam, i.e., receive at least 50% of the points, and the project, i.e., receive at least 50% of the points. The final grade will be determined as the weighted average with the following weights: Final exam 50% Project 40% Minor exams 20% Yes, the above sums in 110%. 4 Objectives Objective: Statistical signal processing methods are applied to design the key functionalities of a communication receiver and in particular its equalizer. In addition, the expertise on statistical and adaptive signal processing is deepened and enlarged regarding linear estimation, adaptive signal processing and multiantenna signal processing. Learning outcomes: Upon completing the required coursework, the student is able to use the methodology of signal processing to design communication systems and their receivers. He or she will be able to design and implement various equalizer algorithms. The student can estimate the complexity of various equalizer algorithms. M. The emphasis is on wireless communication problems with transceivers with non-negligible computation power. Typical applications include high rate transmission, like cellular or wireless local loop type systems. Some low complexity applications, like sensor networks may use simpler techniques than the some considered in this course. We focus herein mostly to digital and baseband (BB) processing.
