Also, in case you re interested in becoming a volunteer or looking for volunteer work, please contact us. -City Council of Social Social Funds We accommodate households with low income, households with physically or mentally handicapped,or disordered members and households with senior members who need to be nursed with a loan for livelihood expenses, house reparation, medical treatment, childbirth, study, victims of disasters, nursing-care insurance and others. Moreover, we accommodate the elderly with fund for Long-time period support loan and the unemployed with fund for support. *Benefits are bound to certain conditions. For further information contact the district welfare officer or the council of social welfare. -City Council of Social Community Right Protection Service The Community Right Protection Service provides assistance for people with

2 mental retardation, emotional disturbance or symptoms of dementia. It administrates the financial matters of daily life (public utilities charge, room rent, bank account) and take into custody important documents (an annuity bond, a title deed, officially registered stamp). -City Council of Social Guardianship for Adults The guardianship for adults is a system to care for people without enough ability to judge (dementia, mentally retardation, mentally disorder etc.). For example, when people without enough ability to judge need cancellation of bank account, making contracts with welfare service, inheritance matters, real estate business, they may have many disadvantages for the person concerned, and to avoid the disadvantages they need people who take care for them. 4 Mutual Aid Traffic Accident Insurance Plan A mutual aid plan funded by premiums paid by city residents enables traffic accident victims to receive benefits. According to the degree of the injuries etc, there s a monetary gift of yen minimum up to 3,000,000 yen max paid. City Hall: Social Division - Social welfare Section Counseling on Domestic Violence and Support for Victims of DV Spousal Violence Counseling and Support Center (SV Center) Counseling / Temporary Shelter / Support for Victims of Domestic Violence In April 2002 a spousal violence and support center has been established in the Tokyo metropolitan area. For victims, of both physical violence as mental cruelty etc. information service is offered - service, introduction to facilities, medical and psychological guidance, temporary shelter for victims and family members, promotion of independent life. 8 Emergency Temporary Shelter Support Women who are admitted to need a temporary shelter precipitately because of domestic violence and protection, a system has been established, where the necessary protection expenses (lodging etc) is assumed. This system is intended for persons who can t bring goods and money with themselves and can t go to a public shelter for battered women, even though it s necessary to find a shelter quickly. Extent of financial support for protection, lodging, food etc suddenly necessary goods of daily life: yen per night and person, limited to 2 nights.
