1 Instructions and Participation Form Rev.: 8/17/2015 Who can apply? First-year students at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences, as well as students who are already enrolled at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences who have at least two advanced semesters left in the standard period of study. Please read the following pages carefully before starting your online application, including all of the subitems. Then please print out the Participation Form (page 5), sign it, and upload it as a PDF file along with the other application materials when you are finished with the online application. The signed Participation Form is part of your application. Steps to apply for a scholarship Step 1: Fill out the online application form between 8/15/2015 and 9/15/2015 Step 2: Scan and upload materials, including the signed Participation Form, as PDF files Step 3: Submit your application online, together with additional materials Step 4: Print out your application and submit it to the Cologne University of Applied Sciences, together with any additional materials and the signed Participation Form with your original signature, by mail before 9/17/2015 (cut-off date!). 1. General Only complete applications with a signed Participation Form will be accepted. Incomplete and/or late submissions cannot be considered. Please only apply one time and make sure your materials are complete. Multiple applications will not be considered. For data privacy and security reasons, information in a previously submitted application cannot be changed. Please note that there is no legal entitlement to receive a Deutschlandstipendium scholarship. 1b. Technical information Please be sure to save the latest copy of your application on your computer. Saving, editing and submitting the application form: If you do not complete all of the required information in one session, you can save your application locally on your computer (as an.xml file). That way you can open the file again by uploading it to the application server Page 1

2 (start page for the online application > Continue application ), and continue filling it out later. No matter how many times you edit or add to your application, only submit the form once ( Finish form > Submit form ; Formular abschließen > Bewerbung abschicken ). You can also add materials to a previously submitted online application later on, but before the application deadline (start page for the online application > Submit additional materials ; Anlagen nachreichen ). As soon as you submit the application, the server will give you the mpuls_s reference number (a 39-digit number). Please keep this number in a safe place (e.g. by copying & pasting, printing it out, or saving it locally as an.xml file). You will need this number if you want to add files to the submitted application during the application period as additional documentation. You cannot change the information in a submitted application, due to data privacy and security concerns. Therefore, please only submit one application and be sure that it is complete. Uploading additional materials: For technical reasons, additional materials are limited to a maximum of 10 files with a total file size of 20 MiB. Please upload your additional materials as a single PDF file if possible. If this is not possible, please give each file a name that indicates its content (Ex.: Resume.pdf). Please note that only PDF files can be considered. Files uploaded in other formats will not be considered as submitted. Summary Step 1: Check whether all required information has been provided Step 2: Submit application (double-check: is your application complete?) Please only submit your application once! When you click on Submit application, your application will be sent, and you can no longer change any information in your application. You can still submit additional materials (e.g. report cards, proof of volunteer activities, etc.) during the application period. The function for this is called Submit additional materials. After submitting your application, you can: Make a note of your mpuls_s reference number. Download your application as a PDF file. Print out your PDF application (for the Cologne University of Applied Sciences and for yourself, if desired). Save your application as a file on your computer (XML file with the extension.xml). You can view this XML file later by going to the Upload menu in our form. The XML file is not compatible with other software, and will only work with our application server. Page 4

Participation Form I hereby agree that my data may be saved and processed by Cologne University of Applied Sciences for selection purposes and that it may be forwarded to other people involved in the selection process. I also agree that my data may be compared to data from other university institutions for administrative purposes. In case of data changes, I will immediately inform Cologne University of Applied Sciences. The submitted application documents will not be returned but destroyed after the selection process. If I want to have my documents returned to me, I enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope. In case of being awarded a scholarship, I agree that my contact details and study related data (first and last name, address, address, phone number, degree program and program semester) may be forwarded to the sponsor(s) as long as this is directly related to the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship. I agree that any image and sound recordings that were or will be produced for public relations purposes for the Deutschlandstipendium can be used by Cologne University of Applied Sciences and/or my sponsor(s). I agree that my data may be stored for 10 years in case I have been granted a scholarship. If my application is unsuccessful, my data will be deleted after approx. 1 year. I am aware that I may revoke my consent in writing at any time with future effect and that the electronically stored data must be deleted immediately by Cologne University of Applied Sciences, observing any legal preservation periods that may exist. If data has already been forwarded to my sponsor(s), I will contact my sponsor directly, i.e. to request the deletion of my data. In addition, I accept that no further funding will be paid if I revoke my consent. Double funding through another talent- or performance-based scholarship is not permitted. The legal regulations stipulated in the Stipendienprogrammgesetz StipG (German Act on Scholarship Programs) as well as the respective regulation (StipV) apply. I acknowledge that the scholarship can be revoked at any time and that funds can be reclaimed (with interest) fully or partially on the grounds of having provided incorrect information. I will notify Cologne University of Applied Sciences immediately when interrupting, abandoning or failing to start my studies, and will state the reasons for my decision.
