3 Audition Required for Admission to B.Mus. Music Major and pre-b.mus./b.ed. Effective May 2016, applicants to the Bachelor of Music with a major in Music and the Pre-B. Mus./B.Ed. degree programs must successfully audition to be considered for admission. Previously, applicants could be admitted without auditioning, but were unable to register for Music Studio courses until they completed a successful audition. Changes to Admission for Public Health Majors The Bachelor of Health Sciences with a major in Public Health will only accept applicants for the Fall semester. Due to the success of the program, admission to the Public Health major is now competitive. General Admission Deadlines The general admission undergraduate application and document deadlines have changed. Students now have until June 30 to apply to most undergraduate programs. Also, the deadline to submit final official documents for general admission has been moved back, giving students more time to finish pre-requisite high school courses. Transfer Equivalency Database ulethbridge has launched an online, up-to-date, searchable database listing courses previously assessed for transfer credit from other postsecondary institutions. The Transfer Equivalency Database also includes Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses for which ulethbridge transfer credit may be awarded. Transfer credit allows applicants to use previous studies toward attaining a new credential at ulethbridge. To search for courses previously assessed, visit ulethbridge.ca/ross/ted. Pre-Engineering Program The Pre-Engineering Program is back. Successful applicants to the program can take the first year of their engineering degree at ulethbridge before transferring to the University of Alberta to finish the program. Entrance into year two at the University of Alberta is contingent on a student s first-year GPA. Admission to specific engineering streams at the University of Alberta is competitive. Bachelor of Health Sciences - Aboriginal Health Students will gain the practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed for work in the field of Aboriginal health. Major topics include: traditional Aboriginal health concepts, contemporary issues in Aboriginal health, community development, nutrition and cultural issues. Post-Diploma Bachelor of Therapeutic Recreation Therapeutic recreation is a health profession that acknowledges the significance of leisure and recreation as integral components of optimal health and well-being of individuals with illnesses and disabling conditions. This program will provide post-diploma applicants with the first degree option available in Alberta. Bachelor of Fine Arts - New Media/ Bachelor of Education The Faculties of Fine Arts and Education have joined forces to offer a Bachelor of Fine Arts - New Media/Bachelor of Education program. This combined degrees program will provide students with the knowledge and experience they need to teach in the exciting field of New Media. The first intake of the program was Fall 201. Bachelor of Science - Applied Statistics The application of statistical techniques is an essential part of decision making and study in a wide range of disciplines. B.Sc. and BASc. degree students majoring in Applied Statistics will select a concentration in Economics, Geography, or Psychology and learn how to use statistical techniques to analyze real-world data in their chosen field. Agility Agility is an experiential learning opportunity in entrepreneurship that bridges education, research and innovation. Students learn about innovative thinking and developing ideas from renowned faculty and leaders in the business and social innovation communities. Students work in a cross-disciplinary environment and will have the space, tools and mentorship to bring ideas to life. Global Citizen Cohort A select group of students will take special programming from their first year through Convocation that complements their degree. In the fall of 2016, the Global Citizen Cohort theme will focus on water, sustainability and social justice, illustrating the connections that many disciplines have to these important topics. 7 New Transfer (College or University) Admission Applicants who have completed three or more transferable semester courses at one or more post-secondary institutions will be considered as New Transfer applicants. Eight or more transferable courses Five or more (but fewer than eight) transferable courses To qualify for general admission, New Transfer applicants must have an admission average of at least 2.0 on the ulethbridge 4.0 GPA scale, calculated on all transferable courses. Admission requirements vary depending on the number of transferable, post-secondary courses completed, as indicated below. See the appropriate Faculty section for quota and specialized program admission requirements. As early as their first year, students can work alongside leading researchers as they push the boundaries of creativity and discovery an opportunity often reserved only for graduate students at other institutions. Regardless of their major, whether they plan to go on to graduate studies or begin a professional career, being involved in research as an undergraduate will help students stand out from the crowd when they graduate. At least three (but fewer than five) transferable courses Basic high school admission average of at least 60%, calculated on five appropriate 30-level high school courses. Admission average is determined using a weighted average of the high school admission average and all completed, transferable, postsecondary courses. Upon admission, students are assigned transfer credit on a course-by-course basis for eligible post-secondary work. Transfer of credit may serve to reduce the number of courses which must be completed at ulethbridge in order to complete a program of studies. 8 additional Admission Routes Degree Holders Applicants who have completed, with satisfactory grades, one or more academic degrees from a recognized university, will be considered for admission to a second degree program at ulethbridge. To be eligible for consideration, the declared ulethbridge program/major must be dissimilar from any degree already completed. Second degree program requirements are individualized for each student. Courses completed during a student s first degree, as well as those completed after, may affect the program content and/or reduce the number of courses required to complete subsequent degrees. Please contact an academic advisor in the appropriate Faculty for more information. Applied and Technology Degrees Applicants presenting Applied or Technology degrees from recognized colleges or technical institutes in Canada with GPAs of 2.0 or higher on the ulethbridge 4.0 GPA scale are guaranteed admission to first degree, undergraduate non-quota programs. These applicants will be considered for admission to quota programs according to their qualifications as transfer students. Transfer credit will be awarded according to regular ulethbridge procedures and policies, including those pertaining to residency, major and time limits. Applied and Technology Degrees are not normally considered to be a basis of admission for second degree or graduate studies programs. Home School Applicants Regardless of their citizenship or residency, Home School applicants will be considered according to the curriculum they followed. For example: A home school applicant who studied Alberta curriculum is expected to meet the requirements of an Alberta high school applicant. The applicant should challenge the departmental examinations in courses where such examinations exist to provide grades in the subjects challenged. By this means, an applicant will be considered for admission who presents final grades in five distinct subjects. First Nations Transition Program This eight-month (two-semester) program enables students to experience a smooth transition to academics and life at ulethbridge. By interconnecting Aboriginal and Western university cultures, this program aims to increase First Nations, Métis, and Inuit (FNMI) student success in and out of the classroom. Students who are attending post-secondary for the first time and those who are returning after an absence are eligible to apply. Admission is on a case-by-case basis, though successful applicants will have the following high school courses at a minimum: English Language Arts 20-1 Mathematics 20-2 Applicants interested in the Health Sciences stream may also require Biology 20 and Chemistry 20, depending on the Health Science program the applicant wants to pursue (e.g. Nursing). Standardized Test Admission Adult Admission Applicants who are a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident, age 21 years or older, and who do not meet current admission requirements of any other admission route may be considered for Adult Student admission. Applicants who have completed high school requirements and have an admission average of at least 60% will be considered for admission. For applicants who have not completed high school requirements, a combination of academic credentials, standardized test scores, and evidence of life experiences will be considered. The applicant is assessed for potential post-secondary success, which is the standard of admission for this route. A resume and letter of intent are required for admission purposes. Applicants to first-year Faculty of Arts & Science or Faculty of Fine Arts programs will be considered who present acceptable ACT (American College Testing Program) or SAT (Scholastic Achievement Test) scores. In the case of SAT tests, the applicant must present complete SAT Reasoning (Critical Reading, Mathematics, and Writing) and three additional SAT II test scores. Audition information and application requirements are available at Faculty of Health Sciences Post-Diploma Bachelor of Health Sciences (Addictions Counselling) Post-Diploma Bachelor of Therapeutic Recreation Applicants with an approved diploma in Therapeutic Recreation will be considered. Enrolment is limited and fulfilment of the minimum academic admission requirements does not guarantee admission. The Faculty of Health Sciences reserves the right of selection of all students for admission and readmission based on admission grade point average. Faculty of Management Post-Diploma Bachelor of Management (20 Course) Applicants who have completed an approved diploma in business administration or management with a cumulative program GPA of 3.0 or higher are guaranteed admission to the Post-Diploma Bachelor of Management Degree (20 course). Applicants with a diploma GPA below 3.0 may be admitted in the second round of admissions. See for a list of approved diploma programs. Additional transfer credit it not considered for these programs. Note: Some students may be required to extend their programs beyond 20 courses, depending on the diploma completed and the major chosen. Contact an academic advisor for details. Post-Diploma Bachelor of Management (2 Course) An applicant may gain admission to the Post-Diploma Bachelor of Management Degree (2 course) program by completing an approved diploma with a cumulative program GPA at or above the current admission cut-off. Students should consult with an academic advisor and see for information on specific diplomas. Note: Only the General Management major may be completed in 2 courses. Students in all other majors will require additional courses to complete the requirements of the major. Applicants with approved diplomas in addictions counselling or related areas, and a diploma GPA of 3.0 or higher will be considered. For some approved diplomas, applicants will be offered admission to the Post- Diploma B.H.Sc. (Extended) program and will complete five qualifying courses in their first semester. 15 How to apply for admission Applying to ulethbridge is as easy as one, two, three... To apply to ulethbridge, students must create an ApplyAlberta account before completing their ulethbridge application. Applicants can access the application from our website (ulethbridge.ca/future-student) as well as at applyalberta.ca. Complete online application form at: ulethbridge.ca/future-student Include valid credit card information for payment of the application fee Indicate courses completed and in progress (new high school applicants only) (including final and estimated final grades) Application Fee The application fee for admission to an undergraduate program is $100. Subsequent applications for admission to a level of study are assessed an application fee of $2. Self-reported Grades High school applicants provide final grades for Grade 12 courses already completed, and estimate final grades for courses in progress and courses they plan to complete based on Grade 12 mid-term marks or Grade 11 final grades. If an applicant is not admissible based on self-reported grades, the Admissions Office will require interim transcripts in order to make the prediction of grades and the initial admission decision. Conditional Admission Conditional admission decisions may be made on the basis of interim/unofficial transcripts and/or mid-term mark statements (for courses in progress) received by the Admission Decision Document deadline. Applicants offered conditional admission must meet or exceed the admission standards of their program by the Final Document deadline. Official Documents Through ApplyAlberta, applicants authorize ulethbridge to request transcripts on their behalf from Alberta Education and/or participating post-secondary institutions in Alberta. Applicants attending institutions not participating in ApplyAlberta or any educational institution out-ofprovince must arrange to have official transcripts sent directly to the Admissions Office. Applicants currently studying at institutions not participating in ApplyAlberta or any educational institution out-of-province are strongly advised to arrange, at the time of application, for the submission of interim transcripts if required final transcripts are not yet available. Education Combined Degrees Programs Applicants may not apply directly into the Faculty of Education from high school. Applicants should notify us immediately if their contact information changes. Expiry Date Applicants must send us their Confirmation of Admission form by the expiry date. If more time is needed, applicants may contact the Admissions Office to request an extension (admissions@uleth.ca ). Confirmation of Admission Applicants need to send this form back to the Admissions Office (signed and dated) to let us know whether or not they plan to attend ulethbridge. If they plan to attend, a tuition deposit MUST accompany this form. Note: this deposit is in addition to the application fee that has already been paid and is non-refundable. Program Planning Guides (PPGs) The Program Planning Guides list all required courses and include a suggested sequence plan. Students who have been offered admission will normally receive registration information from us by in mid-april. A student can register on or after their assigned date, but earlier registration is better for course selection. General Liberal Education Requirement (GLER) All ulethbridge students must complete the General Liberal Education Requirement (GLER). This involves taking at least four courses from three different areas: Fine Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences, and Sciences. The required courses in a student s program typically fulfill some of the GLER requirement, so the Program Planning Guide, Timetable, and ulethbridge Calendar should be used to determine which additional GLER courses should be taken. Refer to the current ulethbridge Calendar at the end of Part 4 - Academic Regulations for more information. The Calendar is available online ( ross/academic-calendar). Registration Date This is the first day students can log on to the Bridge to add courses to their class schedule. On-campus Housing The University of Lethbridge offers a wide range of on-campus living options, from single rooms to shared apartments. First-year students entering straight from high school can apply online to stay in the University Hall (UHall) traditional-style dorms or in the Kainai House apartment building. University Hall Residence Our most convenient, on-campus accommodation offers 276 single and double rooms in University Hall. These fully-furnished rooms are available on the first four floors and are reserved for first-year residents coming to ulethbridge directly from high school. The residence is equipped with common rooms, a games room, a laundry centre and an activity centre. The Library, main campus food outlet, study rooms and computer labs are conveniently located, and most academic areas are accessible without going outside on inclement days. Kainai House Our Kainai House apartment building accommodates 1 students in one, two, four and six bedroom, fully furnished units. All bedrooms are single occupancy and suites are assigned on a bedroom-by-bedroom basis. Swipe-card laundry facilities are provided on each floor. This complex also includes study and meeting rooms, television lounge and games room. The apartment building is conveniently located south of Aperture Drive, just a short fiveminute walk away from the centre of campus. housing@uleth.ca Housing Deadlines Students are advised to apply as early as possible to improve their chances for accommodation. Newly admitted applicants, who apply before April 1, will have their names entered into an accommodation lottery. Approximately 7% of the allocated beds will be randomly selected. The names drawn will be guaranteed accommodation prior to May 1. Off-campus Housing To help students who choose to live off campus, ulethbridge maintains an off-campus housing registry that provides a range of off-campus housing opportunities such as room and board, shared suites and apartments available for rent in the Lethbridge area.
