Among the latest vessels to join the fleet are two South Korea-built sister ships - the Grande Tema and Grande Cotonou - numbers two and three in a series of six. These con-ros, which have a capacity of 5,700 linear metres and 1,800 TEUs, are being deployed on the Central Express Service to West Africa, replacing smaller vessels. When combined with the recently announced contracts for the purchase of three ice-class ro-ro vessels for Finnlines, it must be evident to all that our Group continues to expand, at an accelerating rate, in all markets. In a sign of what is to come, we are now studying the possible build of a further five car-carriers with a capacity for 7,000 units for developing our deep sea trades. Five shipyards are already on the shortlist and an order is expected to be made this spring. With regards to service upgrades, the Mediterranean Express Service to West Africa has been recently reinforced with the arrival of a fourth ro-ro multipurpose vessel, the 2009-built Grande Ghana, capable of transporting 2,000 cars/vans, 2,000 linear metres of rolling cargo and 800 TEUs. Cargo capacity is as a result up by 30%, while service frequency has been increased from every 14 days to every 11 days. On trans-atlantic trades, we are proud to report the launch of the first direct, regular ro-ro service between the Mediterranean and North America. The service between Civitavecchia near Rome and the ports of Baltimore in the US and Halifax in Canada will help facilitate, among others, the export of Made in Italy products: the Fiat 500X and the Jeep Renegade for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. Four ro-ro car-carriers are being deployed with a total loading capacity of 25,000 cars, offering a transit time of only 13 days between Italy and North America. Another Mediterranean service, one of our trademark Motorways of the Sea, is also being upgraded. Following the success of the three-times-a-week ro-ro schedule between Savona (Italy) and Barcelona (Spain), in January we deployed a ferry, and therefore cabins, on the route, upping the frequency to six sailings a week in each direction and opening up the market to accompanied units and passengers. Turning away from commercial news, European Commissioner for Transport Violeta Bulc visited Antwerp Euroterminal (AET) in February in the context of a visit jointly organised by ECSA (European Community Shipowners Associations), the Royal Belgian Shipowners Association, the Antwerp Port Authority, AET and our Group. It was the Commissioner s first meeting with the European shipping community since her nomination in November Ms Bulc, her cabinet and other high ranking DG Move officials, among which acting Deputy Director-General Fotis Karamitsos, had an insight into the workings of a true intermodal operation where (rolling, containerized and break bulk) freight is moved to and from Antwerp by rail, truck and inland waterways. Finally, we must pay gratitude to the role played by the master and crew of the Cruise Europa in the rescue of passengers from the stricken Norman Atlantic, which caught fire on a voyage between Greece and Italy last December. The Minoan-operated vessel stayed at the scene for 24 hours while helicopters transported those stranded from one ship to the other. Letters of appreciation have been received from authorities in Italy and from Anek Lines, the operator of the Norman Atlantic, though tragically not all passengers could be rescued in time.

3 Fleet development The Grimaldi Group further increases its fleet With the aim to further improve its policy committed to the pursuit of excellence, the Grimaldi Group is in the process of continuously enhancing its fleet. Apart from the vessels ordered at the Korean shipyards of Hyundai Mipo and those of ACL at Hudong in China, Finnlines proceeded with the purchase of secondhand tonnage at the beginning of The agreement was signed in January for the purchasing of three ice-classed well fit ro-ro vessels. The first of these vessels is the Finnmerchant (ex-dorset, ex Longstone), built in 2003: with the ice class 1A, she has a length of 193 metres, a gross tonnage of 23,235 tonnes and a loading capacity of 2,606 linear metres. The m/vessel Finnmerchant has been deployed on the new maritime link connecting Hanko (Finland) to Rostock (Germany), launched in January. The three new vessels purchased by Finnlines were previously chartered to the Finnish company, which has already tested their efficiency and suitability to its maritime services. The other two vessels, that will be taken into Finnlines liner traffic at the end of 2015, will be serving the Baltic-North Sea trades. Moreover, the Grimaldi Group is planning to order five new car carrier vessels with delivery by 2017, each with a cargo capacity of about 7,000 units in order to satisfy its increasing needs. These new vessels will be featured with 12 decks, four of which hoistable, and with state-of-the-art and lowest consumption propellers and engines. Already five shipyards are on the shortlist for the construction of these giant vessels. The vessels are expected to be deployed between the Mediterranean and North America (U.S. and Canada). 4 Events EU Commissioner for Transport visits AET On the 19 th of February Violeta Bulc visited the Group s dedicated port terminal in Belgium together with high ranking officials of DG Move On the 19th of February the European Commissioner for Transport Violeta Bulc, together with high ranking DG Move officials, visited Antwerp Euroterminal (AET), the Group s dedicated port terminal in Belgium. This initiative, jointly organised by ECSA (the European Community Shipowners Associations), the Antwerp Port Authority, the Royal Belgian Shipowners Association and the Grimaldi Group, is part of a greater effort of the EU shipping industry to raise its profile and allow EU decision-makers to better understand and visualise the intricacies and sheer scale of this industry. Ms Bulc started her visit with a 45-minute helicopter flight above the port of Antwerp, accompanied by the Commercial Director of the Antwerp Port Authority Luc Arnouts. After landing at AET, Ms Bulc and her cabinet staff, together with various high ranking officials of DG Move, among which Fotis Karamitsos, acting deputy director-general, were welcomed by Emanuele Grimaldi, managing director of the Grimaldi Group and by AET s managing director Yves Delariviere. Present were also the Italian Ambassador to Belgium Alfredo Bastianelli, the deputy Italian Representative to the European Commission Marco Peronaci, the Commercial Director of the Antwerp Port Authority Luc Arnouts and many other guests. After a brief welcoming ceremony, guests were given an on-site visit to AET, guided by Yves Delariviere: after a short introduction to the terminal s activities, the visit continued on-board the Grande Gabon, a Grimaldi vessel deployed on the service between North Europe and West Africa. The visit and the ensuring exchanges between Commission officials and industry representatives took place in an atmosphere of constructive dialogue and mutual understanding. During the visit Commissioner Bulc affirmed that Europe needs a top-quality shipping sector that can compete inter- 4 GNEWS

5 nationally, as it s a key pillar of the European economy. The EU controls 40% of the world s gross tonnage and more than 75% of EU trade is carried by sea. That is why today s visit to the Port of Antwerp was of particular importance, as it marks my first meeting with the European shipping community. She added that the European shipping industry has a real opportunity to increase its competitiveness by becoming greener, provided it focuses on innovation and technology, making special reference to alternative fuels and the need for digitalisation. The visit concluded with a lunch offered by the Royal Belgian Shipowners Association, at their offices in the centre of town. Antwerp Euroterminal is a veritable multipurpose logistics platform: with a surface of 1,000,000 square metres and a berth of 2,100 metres, the terminal offers a state-of-the-art multimodal facility and it is directly connected to the European road, rail and inland waterways network. The terminal rail tracks have a total length of 4,700 metres. Furthermore, with a 7,500-square metres workshop, AET offers tailor-made PDI services such as vehicle washing, de-waxing, pre-delivery car fitting, mechanical and bodywork services. AET is one of the main hubs of the Group: it is called by the Deep Sea services linking Northern Europe with West Africa and South America, the ACL service linking North America with North Europe, and the Euromed network service, linking Northern Europe to the whole Mediterranean area. In 2014, 460 vessels, mainly the Grimaldi fleet, called at Antwerp Euroterminal, handling over 640,000 vehicles, 130,000 TEUs and 187,000 tonnes of general cargo. All major vehicle manufacturers are customers of this terminal, either for imports or exports. This terminal is in continuous evolution. By spring 2016, its surface is expected to be extended to 1.3 million square metres and its quay length to 2.3 kilometres, in order to accommodate Atlantic Container Line, a Grimaldi Group Company, a specialized carrier of containers, project and oversized cargo, heavy equipment and vehicles with the world s largest combination RORO/Containerships between North America and North Europe. This will be possible when the construction of the second lock to the Left Bank is completed at the beginning of next year. GNEWS 5

6 ATLANTIC NETWORK Grimaldi launches a new Med-North America direct service ANTWERP HALIFAX BALTIMORE The Grimaldi Group started the year with innovative news. From February 2015: it launched a new direct service between Civitavecchia (50 km north of Rome) and the North American ports of Baltimore and Halifax in Canada for the transport of cars and other rolling cargo. The new link is the first direct and regular service between the Mediterranean and North America for the ro/ ro-car carriers sector. With the deployment of four ro/ro-car carrier vessels whose total loading capacity is 25,000 cars. The new regular line offers a transit time of only 13 days between Italy and North America. The complete schedule includes, sequentially, calls at Gemlik (Turkey), Bar (Montenegro), Civitavecchia, Baltimore (USA), Halifax (Canada) and Antwerp (Belgium). Thanks to this new service, the Port of Civitavecchia becomes the commercial hub from where Italy will restart. After consolidating its leadership in the cruise sector, the port has launched a challenge in the freight field too, following the remarkable results achieved in recent years with import traffic flows, stated Pasqualino Monti, President of the Port Authority of Civitavecchia. We are very pleased to consolidate, thanks to the commitment and vision of its President Pasqualino Monti, our partnership with the Port of Civitavecchia which has been able to seize the opportunity to further improve its traffic flows said Emanuele Grimaldi, Managing Director of the Grimaldi Group. As Italians, we are proud to contribute, through this innovative connection, to the export of Made in Italy products and to the recovery of the automotive sector in Italy, added his brother Gianluca, President of the Group. With the new connection, the Grimaldi Group confirms the importance of the Port of Civitavecchia as a main hub, not only for intra-european but also for intercontinental traffic flows. In addition to North America, the Port of Civitavecchia is connected, directly or through transhipment, with more than 120 ports served by the Group in the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, North and South America, as well as West Africa. For over 10 years, the 6 GNEWS

7 MEX Service enhanced With the deployment of a fourth vessel, the Group improves the quality of the service offered between the Mediterranean and West Africa CIVITAVECCHIA BAR GEMLIK Euro-Aegean service, dedicated to the transport of new cars and rolling cargo, has been connecting on a weekly basis Civitavecchia with ports in the Mediterranean (Setubal, Valencia, Livorno, Salerno, Palermo, Piraeus, Alexandria, Beirut, Tripoli, Lattakia, Mersin, Gemlik, Yenikoy) and Northern Europe (Hamburg, Antwerp, Portbury, Southampton and Flushing). Moreover, the Port of Civitavecchia is of primary importance in the Motorways of the Sea network offered by the Group in the Western Mediterranean. Currently, the Group regularly connects the Port of Civitavecchia to Barcelona, Porto Torres and Tunis, for the transport of rolling freight (cars, vans, trucks and trailers) as well as passengers. Thanks to the deployment of an additional vessel, the Grimaldi Group proceeded, as from the 23 rd of February, with the further enhancement of its Mediterranean Express service (MEX) which regularly links the Mediterranean to West Africa. The m/vessel Grande Ghana (built in 2009) joins the other three vessels already deployed on the service, the Repubblica di Argentina, Repubblica del Brasile and Grande Costa d Avorio. 9 MEDITERRANEAN TRADE The Group further expands its links between Italy and Spain As from January the Savona-Barcelona maritime link has been doubled and extended to passengers too The current year started with a further expansion of the Grimaldi Group s maritime links in the Mediterranean. In fact, as from the 16 th of January the Group has doubled the frequency of its maritime service linking Savona to Barcelona, served from June Currently, the three-times-a-week maritime link between Savona (about 50 km west of Genoa) and Barcelona is served by the two modern ro/ro Eurocargo class vessels and, thanks to the addition of the third modern ferry Florencia, the service has been extended also to passengers. Built in 2004, the m/vessel Florencia has a length of 186 metres, a gross tonnage of 26,000 tonnes and it is able to transport 1,000 passengers, 170 cars and 2,250 linear metres of rolling cargo at a speed of 23 knots. The vessel is equipped with 199 reclining seats and 96 cabins between internal, external and suite. Furthermore, many are the services offered on board such as self service restaurant, cafeteria, video games area and shops. Departures from Savona are every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 23,59, with arrival in Barcelona the day after at 6,00 pm. Departures from Barcelona are every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 11,59 pm, with arrival the day after at 6,00 pm. The bet of the Grimaldi Group on the port of Barcelona is strengthened with this new link to Savona, in addition to the one already made by the new terminal Grimaldi in our port. The Group has a wide range of competitive connections (with Civitavecchia, Livorno, Savona, Porto Torres and Tangier) which help to relieve the motorways congestion, stated Sixte Cambra, President of the Port Authority of Barcelona. We are confident that this new connection will be successful like the others launched by and towards our port. The Barcelona Port Authority continues to support the Grimaldi Group in the development of new motorways of the Sea because it firmly believes that, in this way, it will help to develop more efficient and sustainable logistics, concluded Cambra. With the enhancement of the Savona-Barcelona maritime link the Grimaldi Group for the first time offers a passenger service between Northern Italy and Spain, stated Emanuele Grimaldi, Managing Director of the Group. Furthermore, thanks to the increased of both cargo capacity and frequency of the service, a tangible advantage from this new investment is offered to the logistic companies of Northern Italy and Northern and Central Europe which handle freight such as agricultural, fishing and pharmaceutical products, often highly perishable, and which need regular maritime services towards Spain, concluded Emanuele Grimaldi. New partnerships with Telepass and Trafineo Thanks to the new partnership agreement with Telepass, Telepass Premium and Premium Truck, passengers and freight customers can now enjoy the benefit of maritime links offered by the Grimaldi Group at discounted rates. In particular for the maritime freight links, Telepass Premium Truck customers are offered a 3% discount on the travel ticket for trucks with drivers. Furthermore, drivers who embark with their trucks are given a 10% discount on the purchasing of a ticket, as well as a 10 euros meal option plan at the on board restaurant. In response to drivers and transport operators needs, the Grimaldi Group signed an agreement with the German company Trafineo, enabling quick and secure payment options. Trafineo allows Grimaldi to accept the new fuel cards belonging to the Routex circuit-aral, BP (British Petroleum), OMV, Statoil as an easy way of payment for the transport companies to embark on Grimaldi Lines vessels. Aral CardPlus These cards do not need the use of a POS terminal to be accepted, since the transactions will be completed directly online at Trafineo s portal, by personal access credentials. This represents a full and reliable method of payment, enabling transport companies a credit term given directly by the fuel provider, allowing an even more reliable channel for the payment process. 10 EVENTS Xviii Euromed Convention in Crete From the 2nd to the 5th of last October, the XVIII edition of the Euromed Convention From Land to Sea, the annual conference organised by the Grimaldi Group, took place at the Elounda Bay Resort, on the island of Crete. Crete was chosen in occasion of the 40 th anniversary of Minoan Lines, the Greek company part of the Group, which has its headquarters at Heraklion, the capital of the island. More than 450 delegates attended the event, among which institutional representatives, top representatives of the logistics, ports, maritime and banking sectors of the Euro-Mediterranean area as well as offices and agencies of the Grimaldi Group in the Mediterranean, North Europe and the USA. Since the Greek and the North Sea areas are currently among the most interesting topics for European shipping and logistics, the conference was divided into two different panel sessions: the first session, dedicated to the Reshaping of Greek Coastal Shipping hosted, together with Emanuele Grimaldi, Managing Director of Grimaldi Group, Ioannis Bras, President and Managing Director of the Heraklion Port Authority; Maria Moraitou, Head of Shipping Division of National Bank of Greece; Antonios Maniadakis, Managing Director of Minoan Lines; Thanassis Karlis, Head of Marketing Piraeus Port Authority; Hercules Haralambides, President of Brindisi Port Authority and Ioannis Avrantinis CEO and General Manager of NEL Lines. Moderator of the session was the Lloyd s List correspondent in Greece, Nigel Lowry. The second session, whose theme was European Short Sea Shipping & The Challenge On New Environmental Regulations, saw the participation of Jussi Sarvikas, Senior Vice President Logistics of UPM-Kymmene; Ugo Salerno, Chairman and CEO of RINA; Patrick Verhoeven, Secretary General of ECSA (European Community Shipowners Associations); Tommaso Affinita, former Managing Director of Rete Autostrade Mediterranee; Frank Robotham, Head of Marketing of Associated British Ports; Mike Sturgeon, 10 GNEWS

11 Executive Director of ECG together with Emanuele Grimaldi. Moderator of this session was Alfons Guinier, former Secretary General of ECSA. During the first debate session, Emanuele Grimaldi affirmed that, despite the crisis in the Greek ferry market, the dramatic increase in maritime bunker costs, coupled with oversupply of old obsolete ships, has made the financial losses due to the excessive deployment of ships over tonnage even more acute in Greece than elsewhere. The problem, however, as pointed out by other panelists of the roundtable, is political: The banks operate as de facto owners because they keep alive the shipping companies at a loss and, thanks to public subsidies, maintain active lines with the islands, affirmed Ioannis Avrantinis, CEO and General Manager of NEL Lines. The time for sleeping and daydreaming is over, stressed Emanuele Grimaldi. We need to build a new sustainable model where demand and supply match. Marginal, old and polluting ships must abandon the market, helping the system to refinance and restoring balance and quality to a downsized but vital Greek ferry industry, he affirmed. Minoan Lines has participated in the rationalization that the sector needs, by chartering out or selling seven ferries to western Mediterranean operators, leaving just five vessels employed in the Greek trades, he concluded. On the North Sea front, the second session saw speakers dealing with the important theme of new environmental regulations with the new 0.1% sulphur limits imposed by IMO and the EU. This situation is forcing ship carriers to use fuel at high prices affirmed Emanuele Grimaldi and the only viable way to avoid the effects of such increase is to invest in scrubber technology which is possible only for operators with young and directly owned ships, and credit for a large retrofit investment plan. Patrick Verhoeven, Secretary General of ECSA, highlighted that various laws on this theme have created a legislative framework in order to have a useful reference platform to contain problems achieve results. Ugo Salerno, Chairman and CEO of RINA, is in favor, in this phase, of the scrubber technology, highlighting that these machineries are newly introduced and are expected to safe margins of improvement. According to Emanuele Grimaldi, the Grimaldi Group front runner is Finnlines which, operating 100% in SECA areas, made its long-term preparations for 2015 by reducing fuel cost incidence thanks the investment of 1 billion in economies of scale for larger roro and ropax vessels, and thanks to a 10 million investment with the retrofit of six ships with new propellers and promaslite rudder technology. Furthermore, it has renewed its fleet through massive investments in owned and new-build tonnage, and started a rigorous cost control programme. Regarding the results of the Group, Emanuele Grimaldi stressed the expansion of the Group s fleet in the last five years from 85 vessels to 103. Furthermore, the Grimaldi Group s consolidated turnover exceeded the pre-crisis level, by increasing by 30%, while the controlled companies Minoan Lines and Finnlines today are performing better than their direct competitors. Finally, as regarding investments, the Group is interested in the acquisition of PolFerrries, the Polish maritime company operating between Poland, Sweden and Denmark and intends to extend the fitting of sulphur scrubbers to ACL s five CONRO units (combination container/ RORO vessels) being built in Shanghai. Grimaldi Palermo and Marina Shipping awarded as Best Agents of the Year During the XVIII Euromed Convention Grimaldi Palermo and Marina Shipping Agency (Alexandria) were awarded Best Agents of the year These two agencies not only represent the areas where the Group is increasing its market share, but also were selected for their successful job, and the wider results obtained during The award was presented by Costantino Baldissara, Commercial, Logistics and Operations Director of the Group to Guido Trombetta, Owners Representative Grimaldi Palermo, and Mohamed Sedky, Chairman of Marina Shipping and Grimaldi Representative in Egypt. 11

Operated by Minoan Lines, a Grimaldi Group company, the Cruise Europa was navigating during the night southbound from Ancona to Igoumenitsa and Patras when it approached the Norman Atlantic north of the island of Corfu: the Anek Lines vessel was in an evident danger of disaster and human losses. Irrespective of the extremely bad weather conditions, the vessel took immediate the lead of the coordination of the rescue operations, while waiting for the intervention of the Coast Guards of Italy and Greece. The m/vessel Cruise Europa, one of the biggest ferries in the Mediterranean promptly provided first aid by putting at sea its life boats in order to evacuate the passengers of the Norman Atlantic. Sixtynine passengers managed to be safely transported aboard the Cruise Europa. Only on the 29 th of December in the afternoon did the vessel end its operation and resumed its voyage destined to Igoumenitsa. The impressive intervention of the Cruise Europa received the gratitude and appreciation of both the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport as well as and of the Greek company Anek Lines for their high competence and commitment shown from by the crew during the whole entire relief operation. 12 GNEWS
