3 Dear ACOG District I, III and IV Members and Friends: This year s combined District I, III and IV Annual Meeting is being held at the Wyndham Rio Mar Beach Resort in beautiful Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. The meeting dates are October 11-13, We hope you take this opportunity to reunite with old friends and colleagues while taking advantage of this first-rate educational program. Roger Newman, MD is the Scientific Program Chair for this meeting and has assembled an excellent program this year with experts and distinguished faculty from Districts I, III and IV. This is sure to be a terrific program with outstanding educational sessions. New this year is a one-day Post Graduate Course scheduled for Thursday, October 10 th entitled, Controversies in Well-Woman Care in the OB/GYN Office for a valued price of $200. Sessions will begin on Friday morning with great educational programming. On Friday evening, please join us at the Welcome Reception in the Marbella Garden at 5:00 p.m. for some light refreshments and drinks. Saturday night is open for you to get out and enjoy all that the resort and Puerto Rico has to offer. Immediately following ACOG s Welcome Reception, Ob-GynPAC will host its first District Meeting event with Districts I, III and IV. Join District leadership for an evening of food, fun and entertainment on Friday, October 11 from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., at the Rio Mar Beach Resort, details to follow. 100% of the proceeds of this event will benefit Ob-GynPAC, ACOG s political action committee (PAC) and the only federal PAC representing our specialty. Contributions from ACOG members like you help us elect candidates who support ACOG s legislative agenda including medical liability reform, in-office ultrasounds, and Medicare physician payment, as well as our commitment to keeping legislative interference out of our exam rooms and promoting awareness and support for all aspects of women s health. 8 GENERAL INFORMATION FACTS ABOUT PUERTO RICO: Located at the gateway to the Caribbean, the island of Puerto Rico is 110 miles long and 35 miles wide. In 1493 Christopher Columbus claimed Puerto Rico for Spain, and the island remained under Spanish rule until 1898 when Spain ceded the island to the U.S. in the Spanish-American War. In 1917, under the Jones Act, Puerto Rico s residents became U.S. citizens and the island became a commonwealth of the U.S. in GETTING THERE: Puerto Rico is easily accessible to visitors with its three major airports. The island s largest airport, the Luis Munoz Marin San Juan International Airport (SJU) is located in San Juan and only 19 miles from the Rio Mar Beach Resort and Spa. AIRLINES: Airlines serving Puerto Rico include: American Airlines, Continental, Delta, JetBlue, Spirit, US Airways. United, Iberia and Copa Airlines among others. CUSTOMS/PASSPORT REQUIREMENTS: Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States; U.S. citizens do not need a passport to visit the Island and there are no customs to deal with when traveling from the US. Visitors of other nationalities must have passports. When leaving Puerto Rico to return to the U.S Mainland, checked luggage will be examined for agricultural purposes. LANGUAGE: Both Spanish and English are the island s official languages. English is widely spoken.
