Chesapeake Community Corrections Program th Street Chesapeake, VA Phone: Fax: Provides alternative to incarceration to all Chesapeake Courts for certain eligible offenders. Operational hours are Monday-Thursday, 8:30am-8:30pm; Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm. Pretrial Services This component provides judges with information to assist the court in making the best bond/release decisions for arrestees financially unable to make bail while awaiting trial. If released to the custody of Pretrial Services, the defendant is supervised in the community to ensure that he/she complies with the conditions of release and returns to court as scheduled. Diversion Services The purpose of this component is to provide alternatives to sentencing for all courts. In lieu of jail, eligible defendants are required to perform meaningful community service work, pay court ordered restitution and/or court costs, participate in treatment for substance abuse, and/or domestic violence counseling, pursue and education, employment, etc. while under program supervision, participants must submit to random unannounced drug screens, attend certain group meetings, and demonstrate a positive and productive behavior. Those not in full compliance are returned to court for appropriate disposition and imposition of any suspended jail sentence. The applicant will be asked to supply information which will help locate the absent parent. There is no charge to the applicant. All child support which the state collects goes directly to the custodial parent. Child support payments may reduce the amount of ADC assistance a family receives. Child support currently ends when the child reaches 18, but this may be extended to 19 if the child is still in high school. The Division has many ways to collect: garnish wages, intercept state and federal tax refunds, put liens on property and tie up assets (such as bank accounts). In some cases, the state will prosecute. You may also get courtordered child support for your children by going to the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court Intake Unit in the city in county where the children live. If the absent parent lives out of state, call the toll free number (within Virginia) to obtain information about the Uniform Reciprocal Enforcement of Support Act (URESA)/Interstate child support enforcement process. Besides emotional support, CCVPSP supplies practical aid for its members. The organization provides transportation to area prisons for those interested in visiting their loved ones. They will also give helpful information to those people who are not familiar with the system such as how to contact a bondsman. In addition, the group writes supportive letters to area prisoners and the loved ones of members. If inmates have medical or civil rights grievances, CCVPSP will go through the proper channels to try and alleviate these problems.
