1 TERRI D ANN RICE Terri is a Financial Analyst with the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where she is responsible for monitoring and managing several multi-million dollar Institutional operating accounts, performing monthly account reconciliations, preparing monthly financial reports for executive-level management, and handling special projects, as requested. In addition, Terri has been appointed Treasurer of the UAB Faculty and Staff Benevolent Fund, which entails disbursing over a million dollars annually to charitable organizations, financial reporting to the Benevolent Fund Council, advising the Council on administrative and operational compliance issues, managing cash receipts, and all other financial accounting functions for the Fund. Terri has also served two years as the Editor of the UAB Annual Financial Report and as the official liaison between UAB and the UAB Educational Foundation. Terri received her Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management in 1987 from Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) in Atlanta, Georgia, and her Master of Science degree in Management of Technology (Strategic Management) in 1994 from Southern College of Technology (Southern Tech) in Marietta, Georgia. Terri began her professional career in Higher Education Fund Accounting at Georgia Tech, where she worked almost eight years, most recently as a Budget Analyst. After receiving her Master s degree and desiring the opportunity to develop her managerial and administrative skills, Terri relocated back to her home state of Alabama, where she worked for over a year as a Personnel Representative/Recruiter for ETCOR Temporary Services. After a brief stay in the private sector, Terri returned to Higher Education in 1996 as an Accountant for UAB, where she was quickly promoted to her present position after only eight months. Terri is currently on the Board of Directors for Adult Planning and Development, Inc., an Assessment Advisor for the Bread and Roses Project Breakout Program for homeless women, a Sunday School Teacher at Sardis Baptist Church, and the Immediate Past President of the Sardis Single Adults Ministry. In addition, Terri is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and an Advisor to the NABA UAB Student Chapter, where she is responsible for Alumni Relations and the Mentor Program. Terri was previously an Advisory Board Member and Co-Chair of the Mentor Program for the UAB Project Learn Program for individuals moving from welfare-to-work, as well as Treasurer of the Christian Women s Investment Club. 2 YVONNE F. HERRON Yvonne is employed with Books-a-Million, Inc., where she has recently been promoted from Vendors Relations Manager of the Homewood Store to Expense Payable Supervisor in the Corporate Accounting Division. Prior to joining Books-a-Million, Inc., Yvonne was a Computer Consultant in Chicago, Illinois. Yvonne also lived for almost ten years in Racine, Wisconsin, where her most recent position was Manager of Information Systems for General Converters and Assemblers, Inc. Yvonne received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting with a minor in Computer Science in 1986 from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Yvonne has been an active member of the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. since 1992 and is presently a member of the Atlanta Chapter. Yvonne now resides with her parents and 12-years old daughter, Lavonne. 7

3 LAKISHA COLEMAN LaKisha is a Debt/Capital Accountant with the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where she is responsible for managing multi-million dollar Institutional operating accounts, performing monthly reconciliations, monitoring and reconciling all bank account activity and compiling monthly financial reports to present to the Director of General Accounting for review and approval. LaKisha is also responsible for monitoring capital equipment, capital debt, and handling special projects, as requested. In 1998, LaKisha received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Sociology from UAB and is currently enrolled in the MBA program at Samford University in Birmingham. LaKisha began her professional career in Higher Education Fund Accounting at UAB, where she has worked for almost 6 years. LaKisha is currently a Big Sister with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Inc., which she has been a member of for over 5 years. LaKisha has plans to sit for the CPA exam in Fall,

4 NOLITA KELLY Nolita is a recent graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Nolita is currently employed in Reinsurance Accounting in the Financial Institutions Insurance Division of Protective Life Corporation in Birmingham, Alabama. Nolita received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from UAB in As an undergraduate student, Nolita served as Secretary of the UAB Student Chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), Inc. Nolita was also a member of the Finance Club at UAB. Nolita is an active member at Faith Church, where she is a member of the Finance Committee and the Praise Singers. Nolita is also a teacher for Children s Church and a dancer with the Faith Church Praise Dancers. 9

5 CHRISTINE HUGHES SNEED Christine is a Trust Officer & Analyst in the Retirement Services (Employee Benefits) Department at Amsouth Bank in Birmingham, where she has performed record keeping services for Defined Contribution Plans (401K Plans) for over 3 years. Prior to joining the Retirement Services Department, Christine was an internal auditor at Amsouth for eight years and worked on several Amsouth audits with Ernst and Young. Christine received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in 1985 from Birmingham Southern College. Christine is currently a member of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), where she is a former Director of Hospitality and Director of Employment. Christine is a church organist at the St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Smithfield, Alabama, where she has served for 13 years. Christine has consistently served in the Ministry of Music for over 32 years. Christine plans to sit for the CPA exam in November,

6 ANGELA RENAE MARCUS Angela is a recent college graduate from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Angela is a Software Developer for Andersen Consulting, where she has been assigned to the BellSouth engagement in Birmingham, Alabama. Angela is responsible for building and maintaining BellSouth s customer service application. Angela received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Management, with a concentration in Management Information Systems. As an undergraduate student, Angela served two terms as President of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), Inc. UAB Student Chapter and initiated the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program at UAB. Angela was also a recipient of both the SONAT and Andersen Consulting academic scholarships. In addition, Angela was featured in the Birmingham News as an inspiring student. 11

7 KEINA L. CROSBY Keina is a CPA employed by HEALTHSOUTH Corporation as a Tax Accountant. Keina is responsible for analyzing crucial accounts, asset reports, prepaid schedules and other items that aid in tax preparation, as well as preparing federal and state tax returns. Keina is also an Accountant with J. B. Crosby, Inc., where she prepares the company s monthly financial statements and reviews monthly payables, payroll, receivables, and job cost reports. Keina received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa) in 1994 and her MBA from Troy State University (Montgomery) in Keina began her career as a Systems Analyst for Amsouth Bank in After a year, Keina returned home to Montgomery, where she worked as an Accountant for J. B. Crosby, Inc. In pursuit of career growth, Keina returned to Birmingham in Keina is a member of the Alabama Society of CPAs, the University of Alabama Alumni Association, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and the Alabama Democratic Conference. Keina also serves on the Governor s Emerging Leaders Task Force and the Lighthouse Baptist Church Board of Trustees. Keina has served as Financial Secretary of Lighthouse Baptist Church, Treasurer of the Capstone Student Business League and Membership Coordinator for the Montgomery County Young Democrats. 12

8 RODERICK DEWAYNE JOHNSON Roderick has been employed by Alabama Power Company for the past 22 years. Roderick is presently working in the Meter Services department under Birmingham Accounting. Roderick is also an entrepreneur. Roderick earned his Associate s degree in Electronics from Bessemer State Technical College, a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Business from Birmingham Southern College, and a Juris Doctorate from Miles Law School. Roderick is active with various organizations in the community such as the Alabama Power Service Organization, Habitat for Humanity, the Landlord Advisory Board, and the Leadership Development Association. Roderick also serves as a seasonal volunteer with the Internal Revenue Services VITA program and as a Board member of the Lowetown Community Development Association. Roderick is presently preparing for the Alabama State Board Bar Exam and the CPA Exam. 13

9 SHALANDA RENEE HALL Shalanda is a Records Management Analyst with the City of Birmingham s Mayor s Office, where she is responsible for updating the current city administration, through the use of technology, in the area of records management and retention. Additionally, Shalanda is responsible for training staff on new projects initiated for quality improvement. Shalanda serves on the Mayor s Protocol Committee, where she is instrumental in proposing procedural and operational plans for several City of Birmingham departments. Prior to joining the City of Birmingham s Mayor s Office, Shalanda worked for the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) for three years, where she managed the clinical offices for several renowned physicians. In this capacity, Shalanda established the first database system for the UAB Bone Marrow Laboratory, which tracks all medical records not entered into the UAB Cerner Hospital System. Shalanda has also worked with the Birmingham Transit and Housing Authorities on various state and federal grant funded programs. In 1994, Shalanda received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Miles College in Birmingham, Alabama. Shalanda has utilized her background in urban planning and development in several volunteer organizations such as the UAB Project Learn (Welfare-to-Work) Program and the Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America. Through her volunteer efforts, Shalanda has received several awards in the last two years. Shalanda has applied for entrance into the UAB MBA Program for Spring,

10 LASHELL BENNETT LaShell is a Financial Associate in the Facilities Division of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Prior to recently joining UAB, LaShell worked as an Accounts Receivable clerk with American Herbal Science, Inc., where she was responsible for posting daily cash deposits, generating sales and cash reports, and performing month-end closeout procedures. LaShell received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in June, 1999 from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. LaShell is currently preparing to sit for the CPA exam in November, LaShell is a Sunday school teacher and Young Women s Minister at Doers of the Word Christian Outreach Ministries, where she also assists in the financial affairs of the church. 15

11 LANA HART Lana is currently employed by U. S. Pipe & Foundry as a Cost Analyst. Lana also serves on the Safety, Environmental and Social Responsibility Team at U. S. Pipe. Lana s previous work experience includes Customer and Product Profitability with a local Financial Institution. Lana earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Alabama State University. While at Alabama State University, she served as NABA Student Chapter President for 1 term. Lana is a member of the Guiding Light Church and is actively involved in various areas within the church. Lana is presently preparing for the Certified Management Accountants (CMA) and the Certified Financial Manager (CFM) examinations. 16
