And with numbers like that, there are practically no limits to where you can go from here. Your biggest challenge is choosing the program that s right for you. Need some help? These steps will get you focused. Define your goals and how they connect to an area of study If you re looking to build on your post-secondary education with advanced skills, you may want to focus on programs that are related to your previous study. If you re interested in exploring new options or gaining a practical hands-on education experience, you ll want to take some time to identify your interests and strengths consider what you liked (and didn t like) in your previous study, your key successes and 150 challenges, and other important factors such as the types of things you value in a job, how or where you like to work PROGRAMS= and other life goals. + Talk to friends and family and seek the advice of a career counsellor You don t have to do it all by yourself. Friends, family, career counsellors and others can help. Talk to people to get information and advice about your ideas. Share your plans with those who can support and encourage you. NSCC can also help contact a campus team member to learn about services that are available to support your career decision-making process. Explore online nscc.ca/programs You can get an overview of each program online, including courses and highlights from other NSCC students. Develop your short list of programs and start to do your research for example, find out what you need to get into the program (university or college credential, high school courses, volunteer or work experience), where it is offered, how long it will take you to complete the program and what types of jobs and opportunities will be available to you when you finish. Everybody who goes to NSCC is passionate about something and wants to make a difference whether it s in their lives or in somebody else s life. 4 Step 3 APPLY TO YOUR PROGRAM Step 4 PREPARE TO GET STARTED Follow this step-by-step guide to apply and get accepted into a program. 1. Select Your Program All the information you need for each program, including campus locations, availability and course descriptions, is available online nscc.ca/programs. Check the admission requirements to ensure you meet the program entrance requirements. 2. Apply Complete, pay, and submit your application online nscc.ca/apply With each application you can submit two choices. Selecting one program at two campuses is considered two choices. To complete your application you ll need to make arrangements to send your transcript and all other paperwork required for your program. Missing or inaccurate information will delay the processing of your application. APPLY EARLY Some programs fill up quickly, so it s important that you apply early to avoid missing the opportunity to be admitted to your chosen program when it is next available. 3. Getting In NSCC makes offers of admission to eligible applicants in the order of their application completion date. This is the date when all application related documentation is received by NSCC Admissions. Transcripts Contact the high school, college or university you attended and request to have your transcripts sent to NSCC as soon as possible. If your high school no longer exists, contact the successor school or the regional school board. Advanced Standing If you have completed a certificate, diploma, degree, or a substantial amount of course work in a specific program, you may qualify for advanced standing in some programs. Details are included in the program admission requirements. Advanced standing means you can start directly in the second year of a program and is subject to seat availability. If you meet the admission requirements and the program has openings, you will be admitted. Once you re admitted, you can confirm your seat by paying a nonrefundable tuition deposit. This tells us that you want to accept our offer and join the NSCC family! Once you ve confirmed, you ll start to receive more specific communication for your program and campus, invitations to events and tuition details. Be sure to read it all; there s important information coming your way! nscc.ca/mynscc Manage your application Make tuition deposits View communications UNIVERSITY + NSCC Transfer Credits NSCC s one-year Advanced Diploma was a great complement to my university degree. Loved the small class sizes, too. We developed quite a bond with our instructor. Karen Kehoe, Behavioural Interventions (Class of 2013) St. Francis Xavier University, Bachelor of Arts (Class of 2012) Students who have successfully completed the equivalent of NSCC credit courses at another college or university may qualify for transfer credits. Contact your NSCC campus to find out what information and documentation is required for your courses. 92% of NSCC grads are satisfied with their overall experience.* 4 5
