1 Aidan O Brien Called in (0) Aidan O Brien is instructed to attend fast and multi track trials, applications and case management conferences on a daily basis. He enjoys a broad practice base, with a particular emphasis on commercial, insurance, medical negligence and regulatory law. He also acts for both claimants and defendants in all aspects of high value personal injury litigation, including employer s liability, occupier s liability, highways claims and road traffic accidents. Aidan specialises in medical law, from complex clinical negligence, regulatory discipline (GMC, GDC & NMC), treatment decisions and medical product liability. He has a Master s degree in Healthcare Law & Ethics and has been published in the British Medical Journal. In addition to working within Chambers core areas, Aidan has experience in construction disputes and chancery matters. He is also well versed in educational law and regularly represents students at University disciplinary hearings and assists with academic appeals. In September 2014, Aidan was appointed as a Judicial Panel Member for the Rugby Football Union ( RFU ). His role involves adjudicating on disciplinary issues and competition appeals arising from levels 1-4 of the game (Premiership, Championship and National Leagues 1 & 2). 2 Prior to joining chambers he worked alongside a Queen s Counsel, specialising in catastrophic brain injury and wrongful birth claims. Aidan has also been involved in regulatory hearings before the General Medical Council and General Dental Council. He also has Court of Protection experience including withdrawal of treatment and welfare matters. Costs Aidan regularly acts in CCMCs relating to high value litigation. In addition, he frequently provides written and informal costs advice in order to secure the most propitious outcome for his lay and professional clients. Credit Hire Aidan is noted for his extensive knowledge of credit hire case law and capable application of its legal principles. He regularly appears for both claimants and defendants and is therefore well placed to effectively predict, forestall and undermine opposition arguments. He is widely praised for his robust and highly successful advocacy in credit hire disputes. Disciplinary Aidan is a member of Chambers Sports Disciplinary and Regulatory Group. He has substantial experience in a wide range of regulatory hearings ranging from educational, sporting, medical and other professional matters. He frequently advises clients on merits, tactics and procedural matters as well as representing them before a wide range of tribunals. Aidan also specialises in academic appeals relating to secondary, tertiary and vocational studies. As a Judicial Panel Member for the RFU Aidan is heavily involved in sporting regulation both as an Adjudicator and representative counsel. He has a keen sporting interest and understands the culture and values expected within a broad range of sporting contexts. Inquests Aidan is instructed to attend Inquests on a regular basis and has significant expertise in relation to all procedural, tactical and legal issues. In addition, he is noted for his tactful handling of particularly sensitive hearings. Insurance Aidan regularly acts on behalf of individuals, large businesses and insurance companies in a wide range of high value commercial and contractual disputes. He is frequently instructed to advise on complex issues of law and is lauded for his clearsighted grasp of practical and commercial considerations. Aidan regularly advises on complex issues of insurance law and provides readily comprehensible guidance to his clients. He is noted for his effective courtroom advocacy, especially when dealing with intricate legal issues.
