4 The vision of Future Melbourne is to be a bold, inspirational and sustainable city in Eight key goals have been set and include our aim to ensure that Melbourne is an inclusive, accessible and equitable city where all people, irrespective of their abilities, can engage in their personal, community and civic life with independence. The City of Melbourne in partnership with YMCA Victoria has developed the Active city guide in response to requests from community members for more information about accessibility in city sports and recreation venues. Active city sport and recreation access guide provides key access information for 34 sports and recreation venues within the municipality for people with mobility, vision and hearing impairment challenges. This guide was developed in consultation with people with disabilities who provided input into what they consider to be the most relevant and useful information when determining a suitable sport and recreation venue to visit. Each sport and recreation venue is described according to these considerations, including access to the main entry, any specific services provided for people with disabilities, toilets and parking. The venues listed have volunteered to be involved in the guide and while the level of access does vary between venues, all those involved support the philosophy and concept of access for all. We hope you will find this guide useful in planning your next sport and recreation activity within the City of Melbourne. is funded through the MetroAccess initiative, a partnership between the City of Melbourne and the Department of Human Services. The City of Melbourne wishes to thank and acknowledge YMCA Victoria for contributing to the development of this guide.
