3 Lord, make me your fisher of men Stewarding our Gifts: Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life." May 14th, th Sunday of Easter Acts 6: Pet 2: 4-9 John 14: 1-12 In today s Gospel, Jesus works to reassure a group of anxious and confused disciples. They have walked with him faithfully, but are uncertain of how to continue doing the work without him! The disciples are no different from you or I. We understand that we are called to live and act as Christian stewards, which means trusting Jesus when he says, I am the way and the truth and the life. We may not understand, but we have to trust. In Acts, chapter 6, we meet Stephen, a new disciple. He is filled with grace and faith and is instrumental in the conversion of many hearts. Like Stephen and the other disciples, we live in uncertain times and are called to glorify God by our lives in whatever way the Holy Spirit moves us. We must have courage and faith as we move throughout the world continuing the work of Jesus Christ! My Dear Parishioners, When you read this message, I am out of town in New Orleans for my relative s wedding. I am sure I will be very well fed with lots of sea food. I like Louisiana fresh crawfish and oysters. I am also hoping that while I am down south, I will get to go sea fishing in the Gulf. Do you know that fish taste best when they are just caught and cooked on the boat? Yes, trust me, it s really good. I have a priest friend down there who loves to fish. He is really a master fisher priest who loves to cook the fish for us. While I am away, please know that you are always in my daily prayer especially at Holy Mass. As you know there is no daily Mass while I am out of town. Please help me to welcome Msgr. James Hake this weekend for Holy Masses at St. Joseph & St. Bridget. Father Hake will hear confessions before each Mass; so, please take advantage of our guest priest and receive the sacrament of love and forgiveness from God. Please do me a favor to thank Father after Mass. Father has family members and friends in our parish so they will take care of him. Father is a retired priest from the Salina diocese. He loves being a priest and enjoys his priesthood. Congratulations: First, congratulations to our Confirmation and First Holy Communion students who received their Holy Sacraments last week. It was a great blessing for us to have you and our bishop among us. Second, I would like to congratulate our high seniors who will be graduating soon. I am sorry that I ll miss your special seniors breakfast on Sunday May 14 th and Holy Mass. Congratulations seniors! Happy Mother s Day to all mothers this Sunday, May 14 th. Our Altar Society ladies will offer carnations to all mothers immediately after each Mass. Thank you to every MOM for your life-giving birth, for your unconditional love for us since the day God blessed us in your womb, for your countless sacrifices day after day, night after night, and year after year for our sake, and above all, thank you for the gift of faith you instill in us. We love you all and we are blessed to be your dear children. May God bless you with His heavenly joy, happiness, peace and love. Parish Potluck: Please join us for our monthly parish potluck, immediately after 5:30pm this Saturday, Mass, May 13 th, in the parish hall. Finally, please remember that our St. Joseph s students, teachers and staff are praying for you every day since January, thanking God for your faithful stewardship to our church and school. St. Joseph s 3rd Grade Project: Mrs. Becker and her third grade class visited the McPherson Area Solid Waste. They would like to encourage you to be good stewards of the earth and help the environment by keeping school supply items out of the landfill. As you are cleaning out backpacks at the end of the year, please consider donating all of your gently used supplies instead of throwing them away so that the 3rd graders can find them new homes. You can find labeled boxes for your supplies in the St. Joseph Church Meeting room in the north hallway. The third graders will refurbish gently used folders and notebooks. There will also be a container for used crayons (The wax from crayons is not biodegradable and will never break down, leaving a waxy sludge in our landfills for centuries to come. The Crayon Initiative takes unwanted crayons, re-manufactures them, and provides them to hospitals that are caring for kids). Another container will be available for used dried up markers (Crayola recently announced a program called ColorCycle that uses a process to convert markers to energy -- a process that repurposes the entire marker, regardless of the different kinds of plastic or how they are assembled). There will also be a tub for miscellaneous for items that are still have some life, but you no longer need (scissors your child has out grown, rulers, partially used glue bottles, etc.) Thank you!
