3 3 COMPANY VISION Solar Biotech s goal is moderate growth, annual profitability and maintaining our sense of humor. We also view ourselves as partners with our customers, our employees, our community and our environment. Furthermore, we also aim to provide superior quality turn-key solutions through custom design, manufacturing, installation and support services of specialised forensic-, mortuary-, laboratory equipment and bespoke furniture to our customers. COMPANY HISTORY Solar Biotech (Pty) Ltd was started in 2007 by Mark Froneman. The company s first product range was designed specifically to fill a niche in the market place, namely, a world class Forensics Laboratory range that would be supplied to the South African Police Service (SAPS) in their planned roll out of 78 Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) laboratories countrywide. The next range that followed was the laboratory range that consisted of laboratory design and turnkey projects, laboratory extraction systems, furniture, bespoke unit design and service and maintenance. The product types that are now in the fold cover, MORTUARY, FORENSICS, LABORATORY and DENTISTRY. Furthermore, as a laboratory installation company, we can deliver on quality and excellence and have installed numerous accredited laboratories.

5 5 LABORATORY LABORATORY/FORENSIC DESIGN Solar Biotech is able to provide laboratory and forensic solutions from providing bespoke equipment suited to the user s needs to turning an entire building or room into a laboratory. Solar Biotech can oversee your project from start to finish and can be used to design a fully functioning turnkey laboratory. LABORATORY WORKTOPS Worktop Types Description a. DuPont Corian It s solid, non-porous, easy to clean, and with proper cleaning does not support the growth of mold or mildew. It s also durable enough to last for the life of the laboratory. It is stain resistant Corian can be used to create basins, backsplashes and work surfaces with no seams. b. Samsung Staron The countertops are durable, stain resistant, easy to clean, and easily repairable. Staron is also a non-porous material, so it resists bacteria, mold, and moisture from penetrating the surface. Staron surfaces are installed with imperceptible seams which means you can smoothly connect your countertops, backsplashes and sinks. c. Durcon Epoxy Resin Durcon Epoxy Resin Worksurfaces are molded monolithic epoxy resin products. The unique molding process includes a special curing stage that ensures a complete chemical reaction throughout the material resulting in a uniform work surface of the highest quality. Durcon Epoxy Resin Worksurfaces are chemical resistant and non-flammable, perfect for harsh laboratory, classroom and research environments. d. Saligna wood Saligna wood surfaces provide a cheaper alternative for worktops. e. Granite Granite is resistant to acid and chemicals, virtually scratch proof, stain resistant, heat resistant and harbours no bacteria or radon. Very low maintanence. f. Stainless Steel Stainless steel is water, heat and stain resistant and is a non-porous work surface. Stainless steel harbours no bacteria or mold.

The furniture is powder coated mild steel 1,2 mm thick, has double walled doors and support brackets in each cupboard that can take the weight of heavier samples. b. Melamine Manufactured to fit in Frames with 3 mm thick high impact edging on all edges, corners and exposed cut surfaces. c. 8 LABORATORY FURNITURE FRAMES Solar Biotech can supply furniture framing which hold the furniture in place and can be made to support specific units or apparatuses. The frames are made from mild steel powder coated or various grades of stainless steel. LABORATORY SAFETY SIGNS Solar Biotech can provide the client with safety signs for their laboratory, which are used to warn laboratory technicians of possible dangers and to work carefully.

TOF safety shower and eye-washer quality is acknowledged all over the world. Available in RED and GREEN. The wide model range is made to international standards. Safety showers Installation: floor, wall or ceiling mounted, fast mounting of pre-assembled parts and easy maintenance of extractable, controllable parts. 10 LABORATORY SERVICE SUPPLY UNITS The service supply units hold the gas, vacuum taps and electrical supply points. 1 2 Service Towers: Service towers can be constructed in many options e.g. mild steel powder coated in a color the client chooses. The service tower will house all the gas taps on the one side with the LPG being the furthest (as per electrical specification) from the 3 pin 220 Volt electrical plug points on the other. Service Trunking: This supplies electrical points along a chosen surface and can run along benches attached to a standard reagent rack or form part of a solid surface reagent rack. LABORATORY REAGENT RACKING The reagent racking can have many different formats, either the traditional, mild steel powder coated 3 tier/ 2 tier /single tier frame with shelves in either wood / glass/ solid surface, or mild steel powder coated adjustable varied sized shelving with height adjustment, or solid Service boxes with seamless edging to form a shelf and to hold any power skirting.

11 11 LABORATORY DRAINAGE Vulcathene is a proven chemical resistant pipework system installed in laboratories in schools, universities, hospitals and industrial facilities worldwide over a 50 year period. Vulcathene is proven with all chemical combinations emptied into it including acids, alkalis, solvents, detergents, blood samples, retro viruses and radioactive wastes. Vulcathene is a complete laboratory system including waste outlets, sinks, drip cups, anti-siphon traps, dilution recovery traps and a comprehensive range of pipe and fittings in sizes 38mm to 152mm. LABORATORY SINKS Skin Types Description a. DuPont Corian DuPont Corian solid surface is a type of material used for sinks which is nonporous, solid all the way through, virtually seamless, resistant to stains from common lab agents, including blood, plasma, Wright s stain and X-ray development and resistant to mold, mildew and bacteria with proper cleaning. b. Samsung Staron Staron sinks and bowls are installed as part of a continuous surface with imperceptible seams for a perfect, natural fit. That also means there are no rims or crevices for bacteria to grow in, so whichever style you choose, our non-porous, hygienic surfaces will be easy to clean and maintain. c. Vulcathene Vulcathene sinks are chemically resistant and are extremely robust and molded with self-draining bases; special size sinks to client specification can also be supplied.

12 LABORATORY WEIGHING BENCHES The laboratory weighing benches are used to house analytical balances and are available in 50 mm x 50 mm mild steel powder coated frame with anti-vibration mountings, levelling legs and a 30mm Rustenburg Black Granite top. LABORATORY GAS AND ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS Solar Biotech can install gas and electrical lines into a facility. 1 The LPG gas installations comply with: 2 Copper tubes (class 1 or better) SANS Copper based fittings SANS Flexible rubber tubing or hose BS 3212 or SANS Jointing materials and compounds BS Low pressure regulators SANS 1237 The compressed air and vacuum installations: All pipes, fittings and all material used shall be new, capable of withstanding a test pressure of 1.5 times working pressure and be suitable for the intended operation and shall conform to the relevant SABS Specifications. Pipes shall be copper Class 2 in accordance with SABS 460.

13 13 FUME CABINETS FUME CABINETS A fume cabinet is a local ventilation device that is designed to limit exposure to hazardous or toxic fumes, vapours or dusts. TYPES OF FUME CABINETS Type of Fume Cabinet Description a. Polypropylene Interiors Interior resistant to many chemicals, bases and acids and resistant to temperature up to 120 degrees Celsius. b. Stainless Steel Interiors Interior which does not easily corrode or rust and is resistant to acids and bases to a certain degree. c. Acid Digestion Fume Cabinet Fume cabinet used to house and handle an acid digestion apparatus and usually has a polypropolene interior. d. Perchloric Acid Fume Cabinet Fume cabinet used to handle perchloric acid. e. Walk-In Fume Cabinets Large fume cabinet used to extract fumes, aerosols and dust from the internal workspace to prevent pollutants contaminating the laboratory. Used for large experimental apparatus. f. Dust Extraction Cabinets Fume cabinet used to extract dust. g. Distillation Fume Cabinets h. Radioisotope Fume Cabinets i. Portable Fume Cabinets Fume cabinet which houses distillation equipment. Fume cabinet designed to protect the user from radioactive materials. Fume cabinet best suited to areas where an extraction system is impossible to install and can be mounted on a wheeled frames and unit can have glass exteriors for easy viewing for students.

14 EXTRACTION ARMS The extractor arm is used for capturing welding smoke, fumes and dust in workshops. The extractor's design ensures optimum fume and dust capturing capacity and manoeuvrability. The extraction hood has integrated easy-to-reach buttons for lighting and fan control. The extractor is suspended by a swivel, which allows the product to rotate 360 degrees. This makes the extraction arm flexible in all directions and very simple to position. EXTRACTION CANOPIES Extraction canopies come in various forms and formats: For odour removal 10 mm Polypropylene For the removal of Hot air from Furnaces etc. Grade 304 or grade 316 1, 2 mm thick stainless steel. EXTRACTION DUCTING Extraction ducting is manufactured using Class 4 or 6 UPVC product ranging in diameter from 100mm to 1000mm. Welded joints or fully moulded joints can be used in installations.

15 15 EXTRACTION ROOM Extraction rooms are normally constructed to remove poisons that either develop inside or are released inside e.g. a Poison test chamber as seen above that tests the efficacy. EXTRACTION FANS Extraction fans come in various types which are used in our installations, either single or 3 phase. Normally centrifugal and manufactured from polypropylene.

16 FORENSIC EQUIPMENT FINGERPRINT EVIDENCE 1 CYANOACRYLATE FUMING CHAMBERS A Cyanoacrylate Fuming Chamber is designed to safely and effectively process evidentiary items using the cyanoacrylate fuming method. It provides a controlled environment for the processing of latent fingerprints on most non-porous surfaces while eliminating personnel exposure to hazardous cyanoacrylate fumes. 2 DFO NINHYDRIN CHAMBERS These Fingerprint Development Chambers have been designed to accelerate the DFO, Ninhydrin and other fingerprint development processes. Fingerprints are detected at a faster rate, and with better clarity, by precisely controlling conditions of high temperature and high relative humidity. Typical operating conditions are 100ºC for DFO and 80ºC/65% RH for Ninhydrin. 3 POLY CYANOACRYLATE UV CHAMBERS Poly Cyanoacrylate fuming cabinets are designed to accommodate the use of the PolyCyano UV onestage chemical staining process. PolyCyano UV dramatically reduces fingerprint processing times by combining cyanoacrylate monomer with a fluorescent stain in a one-stage fuming process inside the cabinet. CRIME SCENE CYANOACRYLATE FUMING EQUIPMENT The Solar Biotech Portable Cyanoacrylate Fuming Equipment is designed specifically for the forensic investigation industry to ensure quality fingerprint evidence development. The equipment was designed with the following criteria in mind: 1 Space Constraints 2 Development of a quality product (finger print) in the shortest possible time. 3 Ease of operation.

17 17 The PCFE is used by technicians to lift fingerprints from various types and textures of potential evidence. The compact design of the equipment allows transport of the kit and development of fingerprints with minimal effort. The 15-minute setup of the tent can be done with only two people and both the automated and manual operation features are both simple and easy to use. All the internal tent components are packed in Tuff cases for optimal protection during transport. The units are made using 316 stainless steel ensuring durability to the kit. The kit also comes with hazard warning signs to ensure safety of users and bystanders. Bio Forensic Evidence Dryers FORENSIC EVIDENCE DRYING CABINETS The Solar Biotech Evidence Drying Cabinet is used by forensic laboratories to preserve forensic evidence integrity. The dryer is used to store and protect evidence from cross contamination and to provide a barrier for the user against bloodborne pathogens and odours. The entire product can be personalised to the user s needs such as: 1 only small compartments 2 only hanging space with baskets 3 combination of small compartments and hanging space with baskets 4 ducted or ductless units Each compartment has independent controls, filtration and function. The shelving is collapsible to enable the storage of small or large objects. DRUG KEEPER This cabinet is designed for safe storage of confiscated hazardous chemicals.

18 DOWNFLOW WORKSTATIONS/ ETCHING TABLE Downflow workstations/ downdraught benches/ etching tables are workstations with built-in ventilation to capture and filter dust, smoke, and fumes and then return the filtered air to a shop floor which can eliminate costly exhaust and energy loss. Downdraft tables can be used in a number of applications and in this case as a ballistics etching station. Downflow workstations/ downdraught benches/ etching tables are used to contain powders created in the etching process and protect themselves. The bench has a Built in Fan filtration unit. When using latent print powders, a ductless, filtered enclosure with a down flow design offers many advantages over traditional chemical fume hoods. The ductless down flow enclosures are cleaner, mobile and require less operating expenses than traditional chemical fume hoods. Ductless low enclosures are energy efficient and effective devices for the containment of fingerprint powders. Down flow enclosures utilize catch trays, pre-filters and a combination of CARBON and HEPA filters to remove the powders out of the air and return the tempered room air back to the room.

19 19 MORTUARY / HISTOLOGY MORTUARY TRANSPORT AND HANDLING Solar Biotech offers a wide range of body transportation, trolleys, body transfer and refrigeration options. AUTOPSY TABLES A stationary item consisting of a dissecting board, aspirator with suction hose and bottle, disposal motor, five body support slats, head support slat, instrument dissecting tray, irrigator with hot/cold water valves, spray hose, organ rinse container, pedestal table with trough surface/integral sink, perimeter flushing system, waste control valve, waterproof electrical outlets, and other related features. It is designed for use in postmortem examinations. We manufacture various options of High risk ventilated Autopsy table, with extraction systems or self-filtered, elevating or non-elevating with many various options and accessories. DISSECTION TABLES / HISTOLOGY BENCHES / GROSSING WORKSTATIONS / NECROSCOPSY TABLES Solar Biotech produces a wide range of superior quality dissection tables/ histology benches / grossing workstations/ Necroscopy tables. We custom design, manufacture and install everything that you will need for a modern, fully functional cadaver dissection room. All of our autopsy/ dissection tables are made of premium grade 316 Stainless steel. The following variations are currently available: fixed, height adjustable, with or without exhaust and with or without basins. We also offer an extensive selection of upgrades and accessories.
