Theme Table Activity: All About Love All About Love is an activity that uses heart related items and fine motor skills to introduce today s Bible story. What You Need: Theme Table will have either Playdough/Cookie Cutters or Large Valentine Bags with heart related items, card making supplies and books about God s love Assist children in playdough play with cookie cutters if provided or lead children to explore the heart related items in the bags, assist in making Valentine cards or read the books on God s love to one or a few children at a time During the Activity: Today, we re going to have some fun with hearts! Let s see what we can do over here! (Show children the Valentine bags/valentine Card making supplies/books or Playdough Activity and lead them in their activity) After the Activity: Great job today friends! That was a fun heart activity! Hearts remind me of love. In our Bible story today, we ll hear about how much Jesus loves us! He always wants to help us. I hope that you will always remember that Jesus loves you very much! 3. Outside Play See Playground Safety Guidelines in your binder. 2 Make It True (Large Group, 10 minutes) After children have participated in Make It Fun, gather them on a rug or in the corner of a room for a large group time that includes worship and Bible Story. Use the monthly song provided with the curriculum to lead your preschoolers in worship and then settle them for the memory verse and Bible story. These scripts are written to be told and not read. Advanced preparation is necessary. First Look offers weekly introductory sketches and Bible stories on the DVD titled Wonder, Look at God s Story. What You Need: Paperclip Memory Verse Card (from the Week One Activity Pages on the Website) in your Bible at Ephesians 3:18. You will also need a CD player and this month s worship song, Hey, hey, hey! Jesus Loves Me, which you will need to download from the Website. You will also need a Bible. LEADER: Good morning, everyone! It s so good to see you today. I can t wait to sing with you today. But first show me how big Jesus love for you is. (Spread arms wide.) Yes, it s SO BIG! Who loves you? CHILDREN and LEADER: [Bottom Line] Jesus loves me. LEADER: Yes, that s right! Let s sing. Lead children in singing Hey, hey, hey! Jesus Loves Me, this month s worship song. Yay! What incredible singers you are. Who loves you? CHILDREN and LEADER: [Bottom Line] Jesus loves me. LEADER: That s right! [Bottom Line] Jesus loves me. Remember, our memory verse this month tells us how big He loves us. Are you ready to do it with me? (Pause.) Let s do it! How wide (hold arms out wide) and long (hold arms out vertically) and high (jump as high as you can) and deep (pretend to dig with a shovel) is the love (hug yourself) of Christ (point up), Ephesians 3:18. (Open hands like a book.) Let s do it again. 3 LEADER: That is awesome. Jesus loves us SO BIG. (Spread arms wide.) Let s jump right into our true story from the Bible. (Hold up Bible.) So this true story from the Bible begins with Jesus and the huge crowd that came to hear Him teach. Friends, we re talking a lot A LOT of people. (Hold arms out wide.) Jesus was telling the large group of people how much God loves them and how they should live. Very important stuff! But then some people in the crowd brought their babies for Jesus to hold. What kinds of sounds do babies make? (Pause.) Oh, I hear some sad sounds and some happy sounds. Babies can be sooooo cute though, right? You can make silly faces at them and they think you are funny! You can play peek-aboo and they giggle! They can be so fun to be around. Well, as I was saying, some people in the very large crowd brought their babies for Jesus to hold. And before Jesus could say anything, Jesus friends, the disciples, said No, no, no! Jesus is doing very important things! They tried to keep the babies and children away from Jesus. And then Jesus said: Let the little children come to me (Luke 8:16 NIV). And He held them and He told the crowd to never stop children from coming to see Him, because children are very important to God. God made children, and He loves them. You hear that, friends? YOU are important to Jesus. Jesus loves you and He wants to be your friend forever. It doesn t matter how old you are, you are important and He loves you (extend arms) SOOO big! Come on, let s say that together. Jesus loves you (extend arms with kids) SOOO big! It s true. He loves us. Who loves you? [Bottom Line] Jesus loves me! So I m going to ask you: Who loves you? (Hand to ear.) And then you guys are going to yell out: [Bottom Line] Jesus loves me! Ready? Who loves you? CHILDREN and LEADER: [Bottom Line] Jesus loves me! LEADER: Great job! Who loves you? CHILDREN and LEADER: [Bottom Line] Jesus loves me! LEADER: That s right, friends. No matter what, Jesus loves us. And His love is SOOOO BIG! Let s pray. 4 Make It Stick (Application Activities, 10 minutes) These activities are designed to help preschoolers understand and remember today s Bible story and Bottom Line. 1. Handprints Handprints is an activity that allows the children to make a visual of the Bible story to display in the classroom for families to see. What You Need: Large piece of white butcher paper, permanent marker, paintbrush, wet wipes, wall tape, and pink, red, and purple paint Before the Activity: Lay the paper out in the activity area. Write JESUS LOVES at the top of the paper with the permanent marker. During the Activity: Use the paintbrush to paint one hand on each child. Once the hand is painted, press it onto the butcher paper to make a handprint. Use the wet wipes to clean the child s hand and then write the child s name under his handprint. After the Activity: Using the wall tape, hang the paper on a wall where families picking up the children can see it. NOTE: Preschoolers love to take their artwork home. They can be very territorial with their work. For this reason, it is a good idea to keep a pair a scissors nearby so that you can cut their handprint from the paper if needed. Before the Activity: Our story today was about Jesus letting all of the children come to Him. His friends told them to stop, but Jesus said for them to come. Jesus loves all children! That means all of you too! During the Activity: Let s make a banner that tells all of our families who Jesus loves! He loves all of us! (Do activity.) After the Activity: Perfect! Our banner tells us that Jesus loves all of the children and that means each of you too! Tell me: Who loves you? [Bottom Line] Jesus loves me! 5 2. Find the Hearts Find the Hearts is an activity that uses sight recognition and fine motor skills to review today s Bottom Line and Bible story. What You Need: Playground Activity Page, white cardstock, and heart stickers Before the Activity: Copy the Playground Activity Page onto white cardstock, one per child. Place the heart stickers in the center of the table. During the Activity: Pass out the Activity Pages. Talk about what children see on the Activity Page. Then encourage the children to count the hearts they find hidden in the picture and to cover each heart with a heart on the page with a sticker. There are a total of eleven hearts hidden in the picture. During the Activity: Can someone raise your hand and tell me where this scene on your page is taking place? (Call on a child to answer.) Yes! It s a playground. You may also see some hearts hidden on this playground. Can you point to one heart on your page? (Pause as children follow your direction.) Great! Now, I have some heart stickers here. (Hold up heart stickers.) I want you to place a sticker on every heart you find, but ONLY on top of the hearts on the page. After the Activity: Okay, count your hearts and then I want someone to raise your hand to tell me how many you ve found on your page. (Call on a child to answer.) You found all eleven hearts! Great job! In our Bible story today, did Jesus send the children away? (Pause for responses.) No! He said: Let the little children come to me (Luke 18:16 NIV). He wanted to spend time with them because He loved them. And He loves you too! He loves you on the playground, He loves you when you re at school, He loves you at home, and He loves you when you re at church. Jesus loves you always, no matter where you go or what you do. Who loves you? [Bottom Line] Jesus loves me. That s right! 3. Stop and Go Stop and Go is an activity that teaches listening skills and following directions to reinforce today s Bible story. What You Need: No supplies needed Before the Activity: Have the children line up side by side on one end of the activity area. They should be facing you. 6 During the Activity: Say, Go, and have the children start to walk toward you. Then say, Stop, and instruct them to freeze. Repeat several times until the children reach you. After the Activity: Repeat as desired. Before the Activity: Jesus friends told the children to stop and not come to Jesus. But Jesus said: Let the little children come to me (Luke 18:16 NIV). During the Activity: (Have the children stand in a line.) When I say, Go, start walking toward me. When I say, Stop, then I want you to FREEZE! We are going to keep doing this until you reach me! Are you ready? (Do activity.) After the Activity: Way to listen, friends! You did a great job coming to me. Jesus wanted the children to come to Him, because He loves the children. He loves everyone! Who loves you? [Bottom Line] Jesus loves me! 4. If there is time, you are welcome to show the Bible story on the Wonder DVD to reinforce today s lesson.
