3 Description of the Adult courses 2016 Standard: from discovering the French language to mastering it all year long The Standard French course is the best option for those who want to learn French and still have plenty of time to discover the beautiful South of France! This course is available all year long, for all levels of French. 20 Standard group lessons of 45 minutes each in the morning = 15h of French classes per from Monday to Friday. NB: LSF se réserve le droit de modifier l emploi du temps en été et en période de pointe (cours Standard le matin et l après-midi) afin de maintenir le niveau de qualité de l accueil et des cours. This French course focuses on providing the main grammatical and lexical tools used to communicate in French, thus concentrating on the five skills essential to the learning of a language: listening, speaking, oral interaction, writing, reading comprehension. Throughout this course, the students learn how to introduce themselves, talk about their day-to-day life and their background, and they are also able to relate their past experiences, their projects and desires, to express their feelings and doubts, as well as their opinion about various subjects. They can understand others and use their grammatical and lexical knowledge in practical situations. In order to reach these goals, the teachers use a great variety of teaching aids which allow the students to discover French cultural and social specificities as well as major topical issues. Every the students progress is assessed through a formal test, which allows them to check their improvement and to review the main topics studied during the. For each level, LSF has established a programme based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages* which allows students to acquire the most important speech acts used to understand French and to be understood. The detailed programme can be consulted at the school. *The CEFR defines methods for the learning, teaching and assessment of a language, and it proposes a standardised skills matrix divided into 6 levels. Intensive / Intensive : strengthen your oral skills all year long The French Intensive course is the best option for those who rapidly want to improve their overall knowledge of French and strengthen their oral skills. This course is available all year long, for all levels of French. This course focuses on oral comprehension, production and interaction. Students work thoroughly on phonetics. There is no grammar taught in this afternoon course, but the grammatical tools studied in the Standard course are reused and applied. A different subject is treated each to allow the students to exchange and to discuss. All the material used is produced from Francophone media (videos, radio programs, documentaries). In addition to the 20 Standard group lessons in the morning the students take 6 or 10 additional group lessons in the afternoons: Intensive : 20 Standard group lessons of 45 minutes each in the morning (15 hours) + 6 additional group lessons (2 x 2h15) 2 afternoons per = 19h30 of French classes per. 4 Combined / Combined : to work on your specific needs all year long The French Combined course is the best option for those who want to increase their overall knowledge while also achieving fast progress in certain areas of the language, related to their personal or professional objectives or for specific purposes. This course is available all year long, for all levels of French. Students can tailor the content of these private classes, work on specific points (vocabulary, grammatical rules, phonetics ). The teachers adapt the course to the student's needs. They give them advice, support and also personalised corrections. Students make rapid progress in the areas of their choice and they perfect their general knowledge of French. It is particularly suited for students who need to learn French for business purposes (medical French, French for the hotel industry, business French, French for diplomacy, job interviews, TCF, DFP ). In addition to the 20 Standard group lessons in the morning, the students have either 5 or 10 French oneto-one lessons in the afternoons: Combined course (20 + 5): 20 Standard group lessons of 45 minutes each in the morning (15 hours) + 5 one-to-one classes of 45 minutes each in the afternoons (3h45) = 18h45 of French classes per. Combined course ( ): 20 Standard group lessons of 45 minutes each in the morning (15 hours) + 10 one-to-one classes of 45 minutes each in the afternoons (7h30) = 22h30 of French classes per. This 3 rd class works as a workshop: acting, videos, photos, poetry, analysis of an exhibition or a project, comic books, French literature, French songs, or meeting with French craftsmen or artists. French & Cooking all year long Our French & Cooking Course is ideal for students who wish to perfect their French while indulging in culinary delights and discovering the renowned French cuisine. This programme is available year-round for all levels of French and Cooking (except April 25, August 1, August ) Our chef Armand, a great professional recognised for his 40 years of experience in the business, welcomes the students in the kitchens of his restaurant (9 students max per course). The courses take place in this professional kitchen, which is very well equipped and located only 5 minutes walk from LSF. Through dynamic and creative teaching, students prepare a full menu which they have the pleasure to taste afterwards. In addition to the 20 Standard group lessons in the morning, the students take cooking lessons with a chef on the afternoon. 20 Standard group lessons of 45 minutes each in the morning (15 hours) + 6 cooking lessons 2 afternoons a (2 x 3 hours) = 21 hours of classes per. French & Discovery all year long Our French & Discovery Course is the perfect package for students who wish to perfect their French while enjoying in the same time the wonderful heritage and environment of Montpellier and its surroundings. This programme is available all year long, for all levels of French. Accommodation is also included, the student can either stay with a French host family on half-board basis, or stay in a student residence on self-catering basis. In addition to the 20 Standard group lessons in the morning (15 hours), the students take part in a wide range of activities and excursions during the and the -end. Activities focus on French culture: wine-tasting, tasting of local products, pétanque, French songs workshop and discovery of the region with excursions to Nîmes, Avignon, Carcassonne, Marseille, Sète, the Camargue etc Over a two- stay, students will take part in: - 1 full-day excursion 4

5 - 1 half-day excursion - a free access to all the activities organised by LSF DELF/DALF Exam Preparation: certify your level of French with LSF specific dates The DELF (Diploma in French language studies) and DALF (Diploma in developed French language studies) are the official diplomas delivered by the CIEP (Centre International d Etudes Pédagogiques) and the French Ministry of national education. There are 6 levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2. The B2 level is required for students applying to French universities and it can also be required in other Francophone universities (in Switzerland, Belgium, Canada etc). The C1 level can also be required in certain cases. The B2 and C1 levels facilitate professional integration worldwide. The DELF and DALF are recognised internationally and they are valid indefinitely. Currently they remain the best certification of your French proficiency at an international level. LSF organises 5 DELF B1, B2 and DALF C1 preparation courses, several times throughout the year according to the exam dates. Please see our calendar for the registration dates. In addition to the 20 Standard group lessons in the morning, the students take specific French courses which are dedicated to the preparation of the DELF/DALF exams some afternoons. 20 Standard group lessons of 45 minutes each in the morning (15 hours) + 6 specific French group lessons of 45 minutes each twice a in the afternoon (2x2h15) = 19h30 of French classes per during 5. Lessons are based on repetition, and mock exams are organised for each component of the exam. This course focuses on strengthening the 4 skills that will be tested in the exam: oral comprehension, written comprehension, written production, and oral production. The students work on the methodology, vocabulary and all the themes specific to these exams, while developing their grammatical and communicative skills. You will be given mock exams in the different parts of the exam. The success rate of candidates prepared for these exams by LSF is almost 100%. A Level/AS Level Preparation - Feb 15th, March 29th and April 4 th 2016 Our A/Level and AS/Level preparation courses is a perfect package including 26 group lessons a concentrating on preparing students for their A/AS Level Exam, together with an exciting programme of cultural and tourist activities. The course is adapted to the needs of the A/AS Level exam, and will be a combination of listening, writing, speaking and reading exercises, as well as grammar revision, incorporating authentic A/AS Level material. The 4 skills tested in the exam are thoroughly prepared: oral comprehension, written comprehension, oral production, and written production. The students work on the methodology, vocabulary and all the themes specific to these exams, while developing their grammatical and communicative skills. Three dates are scheduled in 2016: Feb 15th, March 29th and April 4th. Students take specific French courses which are dedicated to the preparation of the A/AS level every morning and some afternoons. 20 specific French group lessons of 45 minutes each in the morning (15 hours) + 6 specific French group lessons of 45 minutes each 2 afternoons a (2x2h15) = 19h30 of specific French classes per during 1. Before arrival, the students fill in a document stating their expectations and their specific needs. One-toone lessons may be added to the programme if requested. IB (International Baccalaureat) Preparation - July 18 th 2016 At LSF the IB (International Baccalaureate) preparation course includes 26 ly group lessons focusing on the exam and also includes an exciting programme of cultural and tourist activities. The 4 skills tested in the exam are thoroughly prepared: oral comprehension, written comprehension, oral production, and written production, incorporating authentic IB material. The students work on the methodology, vocabulary and all the themes specific to these exams, while developing their grammatical and communicative skills. 5

In addition to the 20 Standard group lessons in the morning, the students take specific French courses which are dedicated to the preparation of the IB exam some afternoons. 20 Standard group lessons of 45 minutes each in the morning (15 hours) + 6 specific French group lessons of 45 minutes 2 afternoons a (2x2h15) = 19h30 of specific French classes per during 1. Before arrival, students fill in a document stating their expectations and their specific needs. One-to-one lessons may be added to the programme if requested. French Courses for Teachers: learning new methods all year long LSF offers a specific training programme for French teachers living and working out of France (primary school, high school, college). It is available all year long and the minimum level required for teachers is B1 according to the CECR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). Before arrival at LSF, teachers will take a level test and will then be placed in a class adapted to their needs. The objective of this course is to give teachers the keys to help them develop the writing and oral skills of their students whilst learning new methods for the preparation of their courses. All the activities in class allow the teachers to familiarise themselves with the French language and culture and to facilitate the teaching methods used for a specific grammar point. In addition to the 20 Standard group lessons in the morning, students take specific group lessons some afternoons which are specially designed for French teachers. 20 Standard group lessons of 45 minutes each in the morning (15 hours) + 10 specific group lessons of 45 minutes each 3 afternoons a (3x2h30) = 22h30 of French classes per. In the mornings teachers follow the Standard course at their appropriate level. They develop their grammatical and communication skills, enrich their vocabulary and get new ideas and learn new teaching techniques by observing the LSF teachers. In the afternoons, teachers follow specific classes which are organised as lively workshops where each participant is encouraged to participate actively, exchanging experiences and teaching methods. On top of that, teachers students are invited to the one-hour exchange of practice organised each by the LSF teachers, so that they can talk with each other, exchange and find new ideas. LSF uses the task-based approach. Thanks to this method, students develop the five skills of the CECR (Speaking, Writing, Listening, Reading comprehension, Oral interaction). For every important grammar point, this course offers activities specially designed to study this lesson. A wide range of activities are proposed, only based on authentic documents (media, press, photos, films, internet, songs, games ) for non-french speakers from beginner level (A1) to the C1 level (according to the CECR). At the end of the course, teachers will get a full range of turnkey activities adapted to the levels they are teaching. One-to-One Lessons all year long The student decides the number of lessons and their content to create a programme completely adapted to his needs and wishes. He/she will be asked to complete a needs analysis form before arrival, and any specific materials the student wishes to be included in the lessons may be sent to LSF before arrival. Semi-private lessons are organised for two people with the same level and/or needs. As for the one-to-one lessons, your teacher will organise the lessons according to the needs of the students, but with this course option you will have more opportunity to interact. Long-term Stay (12 or 24 ) These Standard or Intensive long-term programmes are ideal for students who wish to immerse themselves in France for several months with the goal of achieving significant progress and mastering the French 6

7 language better. Their progress will be evaluated on a regular basis by tests provided by the Common European Framework for Languages. 7

8 Notes on the organisation of group courses The minimum number of people in a group lesson is 3 and the maximum number is 10. When, in certain out-of-season, the number of people for a particular level is 1 or 2, LSF organises one-to-one lessons (1-1) or semi-individual lessons (1-2). In this case the number of lessons is reduced by half (a of 20 group lessons becomes a of 10 one-to-one or semi-individual lessons). Lessons for complete beginners are organised on one Monday per month (see the 2016 pricelist for exact dates). If beginners arrive on other dates, LSF reserves the right to place the student in the lowest level group that. NOTE: 1 lesson = 45 minutes. OTHER OFFERS AVAILABLE AT LSF Summer Language Stay for Juniors All-inclusive French Vacation Courses for young people (11-16). This programme includes French lessons in the mornings, accommodation in a host family or student residence and a selection of leisure activities: beach trips, excursions, Photomania, bowling, ice-skating, etc. Full supervision and welfare will be provided 24/7. Closed Groups All-inclusive packages for closed groups (schools, universities, companies, etc). This offer includes French lessons, accommodation in a host family or in a student residence, transfers from/to different airports in the region and a programme of cultural and tourist activities. An individual programme and quotation, adapted to the wishes of each customer (duration of the stay, number of excursions and activities...), is available on request. Work and Hotel Placements For participants wishing to combine a real work experience in a French company or hotel with a language course. This programme is only available to students who have to do work experience as a part of their degree/studies with a convention signed by their educational establishment. 8
