6 4. Description of your device You have acquired a product featuring modern and robust technology and an excellent quality of finish. The Traveler NV 5 Night Vision Device improves visibility in twilight conditions and in complete darkness. No additional light source is required, as the Traveler NV 5 Night Vision Device is equipped with an integrated light source, which can be activated when necessary. This unobtrusive, handy Night Vision Device can also be used for night-time surveillance of property or housing estates. 9 7
8 5. Preparation 5.1. Insert battery The Traveler NV 5 Night Vision Device is operated by a battery, type CR123a. Unscrew the battery cover lid (1) and slide the battery with the plus pole forward into the battery compartment (2). Close the battery compartment. Do not tighten the battery compartment lid screws too tightly. The Traveler NV 5 Night Vision Device is now ready for use.
Setting options The Traveler NV 5 Night Vision Device offers two setting options to focus the lens. Similar to binoculars you can adjust the device to your eyesight by turning the eyepiece (1). Once the eyepiece has been adjusted to your eyesight, the settings do not have to be changed again (relevant information is provided in section Adjusting to individual eyesight ). The lens (2), which can also be rotated, allows focussing on objects within the field of vision of the night vision device. Note: never in daylight or under bright lights in order to prevent damage to the device. The device can also be preset in daylight conditions. To allow this, the lens cap contains a needle-size opening which only admits very little light to ensure that the sensitive technology inside the device is not damaged. Nevertheless do not point the Traveler NV 5 Night Vision Device at very bright objects or strong light sources, such as the sun during the presetting operation.
Adjusting to individual eyesight Note: 1. Remove cap (3) from lens. 2. Carefully rotate the lens (2) in clockwise direction up to the stop. 3. Replace the cap (3) on the lens. 4. Switch on the Traveler NV 5 Night Vision Device by pressing the ON/ OFF button. The green operation indicator lights up. 5. Look through the eyepiece (1), aiming the device at an object that is approx. 100 m away. 6. Rotate the eyepiece (1) to the left or right until you can clearly see the object. The Traveler NV 5 Night Vision Device has now been adjusted to your eyesight. Note:
11 6. Using the Night Vision Device The Traveler NV 5 Night Vision Device absorbs any residual light through its lens, amplifies it and displays the generated image on a monitor. Where the existing residual light no longer suffices, the surroundings can be lit up using the integral Infrared light source. 1. Remove lens cap (1) and switch on device by pushing the ON button (2). The green operating indicator (4) lights up. 2. View the surrounding area through the eyepiece and focus on the objects in view by turning the lens (3) to the left or right. 3. As required, switch the Infrared source on or off by pressing the IR (5) button. The red operating indicator (6) lights up when the Infrared light source is activated. 4. Always switch the device off after use by pressing the ON button (2). 5. Place the lens cap on the lens to protect the glass surface.
12 Note: the device, the electronics are switched off for safety reasons. As soon as the light source disappears the device continues to operate normally. Despite of this safety protection, avoid bright light as this could damage the electronics. 7. Spots in field of vision It can happen that individual spots appear in the field of vision. These are generated in the amplifying unit of the Traveler NV 5 Night Vision Device and are usual for this type of device. This is not a defect, provided the spots do not exceed the extent described below. Zone 1: Zone 2: Zone 3: Up to four very small or two small hazy spots are permitted. All very small, up to 6 small and 3 medium-sized hazy spots are permitted, as the image has already become less focussed for technical reasons. All types of hazy spots around the outer area are permitted, as the image cannot be focused in this area.
13 8. Fault removal The Traveler NV5 Night Vision Device cannot be switched on: Check battery (charge, polarity). Replace battery. Clean battery and device contacts in battery compartment. Flickering image: Light is too bright. Switch off device or replace lens cap. The image can also flicker and the display can light up briefly when the device is switched on. This is normal. If it does not stop, conditions are too bright. Picture not in focus / unclear: Repeat the pre-adjustment of the eyepiece as described (see page 10). Remove dust or dirt from the eyepiece or lens. Replace the battery if charge is insufficient. Picture goes dark or fades away: Strong, bright light has activated the safety switch-off. Switch off the device or point it onto a darker area.
