Leading Sports Activities Physical Education Programme of Study 2016 to 2017 Spiritual, Moral, Social and Culture aspects within the PE Programme of Study Spiritual Definition: Explore beliefs and experience; respect faiths, feelings and values; enjoy learning about oneself, others and the surrounding world; use imagination and creativity; reflect. Pupils spiritual development is shown by their: ability to be reflective about their own beliefs, religious or otherwise, that inform their perspective on life and their interest in and respect for different people s faiths, feelings and values. Within PE pupils will be encouraged to reflect on their performance and contribution to different situations. A variety of different roles will be examined and explored allowing pupils to have different perceptions and experiences from which to draw on. sense of enjoyment and fascination in learning about themselves, others and the world around them. The aim of the PE department is to ensure pupils develop a life-long love of sport and to continue in sport once they leave compulsory education. Continuing in sport may be through playing, umpiring, coaching or volunteering. use of imagination and creativity in their learning willingness to reflect on their experiences. Within PE pupils are encourage to develop as decision makers and take responsibility for their actions and decisions. Pupils are then encouraged to reflect on their successes and areas that can be developed in the future.
4 Moral Definition: Recognise right and wrong; respect the law; understand consequences; investigate moral and ethical issues; offer reasoned views. Pupils moral development is shown by their: ability to recognise the difference between right and wrong and to readily apply this understanding in their own lives, recognise legal boundaries and, in so doing, respect the civil and criminal law of England. Within PE pupils are encouraged to take responsibility for officiating their own games within lessons, making the right decisions to ensure that the rules of the activity (written and social acknowledged) are adhered to at all times. understanding of the consequences of their behaviour and actions. Within PE all pupils are challenged to reflect on their behaviour and actions and to make the right choices to have a positive impact on the outcomes for themselves and others. interest in investigating and offering reasoned views about moral and ethical issues and ability to understand and appreciate the viewpoints of others on these issues. Pupils are challenged to reflect on their behaviour and ensure it meets the expectations imposed by the school and the group. Social Definition: Use a range of social skills; participate in the local community; appreciate diverse viewpoints; participate, volunteer and cooperate; resolve conflict; engage with the 'British values' of democracy, the rule of law, liberty, respect and tolerance. Pupils social development is shown by their: use of a range of social skills in different contexts, for example working and socialising with other pupils, including those from different religious, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. Within PE this can be evidenced through team work. Pupils will be required to work with a range of other pupils, both in and out of their social group. Through sport any barriers that may exist, or be perceived to exist through ethnicity, religion and socio-economic backgrounds, can be broken down building on the values inherent in many sports. For example: The Football4Peace programme that all pupils will have been part of in year 7, the RFU Core Values (Teamwork, Discipline, Sportsmanship, Respect, Enjoyment) and the Olympic values (Determination, Inspiration, Equality, Respect, Courage, Excellence, Friendship). willingness to participate in a variety of communities and social settings, including by volunteering, cooperating well with others and being able to resolve conflicts effectively. Within PE pupils will be encouraged to undertake a variety of different roles, not
5 merely the role of performer. Acting as a coach, captain or umpire provides our pupils with a different perspective on what sport can provide as a life-long activity. acceptance and engagement with the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs; they develop and demonstrate skills and attitudes that will allow them to participate fully in and contribute positively to life in modern Britain. Within PE, sport can be used as a vehicle for social growth and used to espouse the values of respect and sportsmanship. Pupils have a responsibility to win well and lose with dignity. At the heart of the curriculum is the development of the individual, within sport and as a well-rounded individual. Cultural Definition: Appreciate cultural influences; appreciate the role of Britain's parliamentary system; participate in culture opportunities; understand, accept, respect and celebrate diversity. Pupils cultural development is shown by their: understanding and appreciation of the wide range of cultural influences that have shaped their own heritage and those of others understanding and appreciation of the range of different cultures within school and further afield as an essential element of their preparation for life in modern Britain knowledge of Britain s democratic parliamentary system and its central role in shaping our history and values, and in continuing to develop Britain willingness to participate in and respond positively to artistic, musical, sporting and cultural opportunities. Within PE this can be supported by awareness of local, regional, National and International success both within the school community and for the National teams in competition.

Within PE all pupils take part in the Football4Peace programme designed to remove prejudice and build relationships between different ethnic and cultural groups.
