1 Description The ECR1212 fixed mode Low Dropout (LDO) regulator is a 3 terminal device. The ECR1212 is a low dropout fixed mode regulator with minimum of 1A output current capability. The product is specifically designed to provide well regulated supply for low voltage IC applications such as high speed bus termination and low current 1.2V logic supply. ECR1212 is guaranteed to have lower than 1.4V dropout at full load current making it ideal to provide well-regulated outputs of 1.2V with 3V to 6V input supply. The ECR1212 devices are available in TO-252 packages. Line and load regulation are measured at a constant Junction temperature by low duty cycle pulse testing. Note 2: Line and load regulation are guaranteed up to the maximum power dissipation of 15W. Power dissipation is determined by the difference in input and output and the output Current. Guaranteed maximum power dissipation will not be available over the full input/output range. 5 Typical Application 10uF 10uF Functional Description Introduction Like any low dropout regulator, ECR1212 requires external capacitors to ensure stability. The external capacitors must be carefully selected to ensure performance. VIN A minimum of 10μF connected from this pin to ground to insure that the input voltage does not sag below the minimum dropout voltage during the load transient response. This pin must always be 1.4V higher than V OUT in order for the device to regulate properly. VOUT A minimum of 10µFcapacitabce must be connected form this pin to ground to insure stability. GND This pin must be connected to the lowest potential in the system and all other pins must be at higher potential with respect to this pin. Input Capacitor An input capacitor of at least 10μF is required. The value can be increase without upper limit. Output Capacitor An output capacitor is required for stability. It must be placed no more than 1 cm away from the V OUT pin, and connected directly between V OUT and GND pins. The minimum value is 10μF but may be increase without limit. Thermal Considerations It is important that the thermal limit of the package is not exceeded. The ECR1212 has built in thermal protection. When the thermal limit is exceeded, the IC will enter protection, and V OUT will be pulled to ground.
