2 Bible Story Exploration... Bible Story Time The Wesley Plan ***As kids arrive have them complete the my day worksheet. Have them hold onto it to use later on in the lesson. Be sure to start your lesson by 5 minutes after the start of the service*** ASK: Does anyone know what the name of our church is? (allow responses) The complete name of our church is: The United Methodist Church Of The Resurrection. Has anyone heard of John Wesley? (show pic of JW) SAY: John Wesley started the United Methodist church a long time ago in England. We are going to spend a few weeks learning about John Wesley and how we can better follow Jesus. (Grab Number Signs) Say: Here are a few numbers that will help you know more about JW. (Invite 4 kids up to hold the number sheets and one more to hold the map of England) 300-John Wesley lived 300 years ago in England (show map of England) 9-He had 9 brothers and sisters 6-6 hours in school every day 1-hour each week with mom learning about Jesus outside of church Say: As a young boy John learned about Jesus. Each week John Wesley was given a plan to follow Jesus. Then as an adult he also made a plan to follow Jesus every day. This plan included reading the Bible, praying, talking about Jesus, and helping those in need. People called this his method of following Jesus. This is where we get the name Methodist. (write method & Methodist on the whiteboard so kids can see the similarity of the words) Ask: What does your day look like? How many of your worked on the My day worksheet? Hold them up so I can see them! Nice job!! Who would like to show the whole group what their day looks like? (allow a couple of kiddos to tell the group about their worksheet) Great job! Most of us have a lot going on during the day, but have we made time for Jesus in our day to pray to him? There is one person in the Bible who had a method to following Jesus and his name is Daniel let s read a little bit of how he followed Jesus every day. Read from the Read and Learn and Bible page (Do not go past 226) Ask: How many times did Daniel pray every day? (3), What was Daniel s job? (He worked for the king), Do you think Daniel was busy? (Yes) Daniel was a busy guy yet he still prayed everyday to God! Memory Verse I remind you to revive the gift of God that is within you...for God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather of power, love, and self discipline. 2 Timothy 1:6-7

3 Small Group Exploration... Bible Story Activity Daily Prayer Cards Planning Our Prayer time Supplies: Prayer Cards & Markers This week we want you to try and plan out some time to pray just like Daniel and John Wesley did. (Hand out prayer cards with the 3 prayers one per kid). Have them punch a hole in the top left corner and tie together with a piece of yarn. Then they can color in the pictures. Also, they can read or have someone read them to you each day. There is a morning prayer, a mealtime prayer, and a bedtime prayer. You can also check the sheet each time you pray this week. See how many check you can get in one week. Morning Prayer: Dear Jesus, Thank you for this new day! Bless this day and help me to say kind words, respect others, and share your love wherever I go. Amen Meal Prayer: Dear God, Thank you for this food. Please bless those that made it. May this food give me energy to follow you today! In Jesus name Amen! Bedtime Prayer: Dear Lord, As I end my day and go to sleep, I ask that you keep me safe and bless my sleep. In Jesus name I pray Amen! Give kids 5 minute to decorate the cards and then read each prayer together. Challenge the kiddos to pray more this week using this card as their plan. Have them in- PRAYER TIME Take a few moments and ask children to share Joys and Concerns and to pray. You can do this before or after Bible Theatre. Use your Guide Prayer Sheet (on counters) to write any prayer requests from the children then take the sheet home to pray for the children s requests this week. **Please let me know via e mail of any serious concerns such as a death or serious illness in family, etc. Blessing: Lord may you be with me in my coming and my going. May you be with me in all I do today. May I show your love with my words and actions. Amen.

4 Classroom Wrap-Up Worship Moment Once you are done with your Bible Story Activity take out your WORSHIP BIN and set up the supplies and light the candle (battery powered) on the tray table provided (or on a table). Turn off the lights and say It is now time to for us to focus on God. I want you all to be quiet and take this time to talk to God silently about ANYTHING you would like. Give the kids at least one minute of silence try to add on time as your year progresses. The idea here is to allow for some QUIET time with God each and every week. We want this to become a routine part of the lesson.
