3 CELEBRATE 150 We re looking ahead to St George s 150th anniversary in 2019 and we would like to invite you to help us celebrate it. These 150 years are a major achievement, possible only through the generations of support given by our Georgian Community. We ve come a long way since 1869 and we re proud of our progress over the years, so there is much to celebrate. As we look to our future, the Board of Governors is proposing to mark this special anniversary with an exciting new architectural development for the College. It s a development that will transform our current sports facilities and leave a lasting legacy for both current and future generations of Georgians. 4 MASTERPLAN In reviewing the facilities at the College as part of our long term Masterplan for the next years, we have the opportunity to radically improve the core facilities that provide the foundation for our sports and wider physical activities for all. 5 EXISTING SPORTS HALL Our existing sports hall was adequate when it was built in 1984 and was constructed in a way necessitated by the financial circumstances of the school at the time. In essence it is a simple, functional construction that provides basic facilities to fulfil the sporting curriculum. The Activity Centre will give us a much needed upgrade to existing facilities to support a perfectly balanced education for all. Existing facilities 1. Functional sports hall with no amenities 2. Not girl friendly built before co-ed 3. Too small for size of school 4. Limited usage doesn t provide breadth of activity 5. No staff offices 6. No spectator areas 7. Inadequate storage 8. 6 OUR INSPIRATION This new facility will establish a new standard to inspire our children to excel in a range of activities to encourage all boys and girls to embrace activity as a benefit throughout their school life and beyond.
