2 Mangosteen Fruit Garcinia mangostana Linn. is tropical fruit available in Thailand. Nutraceutical mangosteen composition is mangosteen fruit pulp and rind.

3 Extracts from Mangosteen Rind The extracts from mangosteen rind mainly compose of xanthone, anthocyanins and tannins. Xanthone group in mangosteen extracts compose of alpha-mangostin (1,3,6- trihydroxy-7-methoxy-2,8-bis-(3-methylbut-2-enyl)-xanthen-9-one) and gammamangostin (1,3,6-trihydroxy-2,8-bis-(3- methyl-but-2-enyl)-xanthen-9-one). And others.

4 Bioactivities of Xanthone. The xanthone has demonstrated antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory activities and the ability to induce cancer cell.

5 Objective The objective of this research is to Extraction of xanthone from mangosteen rind by using solvent extraction. Preparation of mangosteen powder Utilization of Mangosteen rind extract.

6 Material and Method Extraction of Mangosteen rind. 1. Dried and Powder mangosteen rind. 2. Solvent Extraction by Ethanol, Methanol. 3. Soxlet Extraction./Continuous Extraction. 4. Rotary Evaporator 5. Dried in vacumm oven 6. Accurated weight.

9 Extraction of Mangosteen rind. 600 gram of dried mangosteen rind are combined with 3000 L. of ethanol and continueous extraction for 10 hours. To receive crude extract by using rotary evaporator. This method also can be with methanol and ethyl acetate.

12 Analysis of Xanthone. Analysis of Xanthone by HPLC

13 Analysis of xanthone by using LC-MS. Analysis of alpha-mangostin, gammamangostin and other xanthone derivatives have been made by using LC-MS with UV detector, wavelength 254 nanometer., Hypersil ods column, 150x4.6 mm. 5µM, at 40 C and mobile phase 0.1% (v/v) acetic acid in water, A and 95% (v/v) methanol,b. For mobile phase gradient program, 65-90% B for 40 mins., rate 1 ml per min., injection volume 10 microlitre.

14 Preparation of Mangosteen juice powder. by using spray dryer. 50 % of mangosteen juice, 15% of maltodextrin, and 35% water are homogenized before spraying to receive mangosteen juice powder.

15 Preparation of Xanthone Powder. Encapsulation of xanthone by using spray dryer. 20 % of mangostin extract, 50% of maltodextrin, and 30% mixture of ethanol and water 1:1 are homogenized before spraying to receive xanthone powder.

16 Result and Discussion. Ethanol and methanol extracts are % and % of dried mangosteen rind respectively. Mixture of ethyl acetate and water (1:1 v/v) extracts are % of dried mangosteen rind.

18 Maceration Mangosteen rind.

19 Analysis of xanthone by using LC-MS showed that one gram of dried mangosteem rind contained alphamangostin microgram Betamangosteen microgram and gartanins 18.7 microgram.

20 One gram of methanol extracted contained microgram, Beta-mangostin microgram and gartanins microgram. One gram of ethyl acetate extracted contained alpha-mangostin microgram Beta-mangosteen microgram and gartanins microgram.

25 Bioactivities toxicity towards cancer cells, MCF7-Breast cancer, IC 50 was average microgram per ml. Note. IC50 the amount of extract into 1 ml. solution necessary to decrease by 50%.

26 Xanthone powder was manufactured from ethanol and water extract by using Spray Dryer. As raw material for food and cosmetics.

27 Mangosteen pulb was processed to instant mangosteen powder, mixing with tea and coffee, cookies and ice-cream.

38 Conclusion Mangosteen rind extract can be made by using solvent extraction, such as Ethanol and methanol by continuous extraction or maceration. The mangosteen rind extract mainly compose of alpha-mangostin.

39 Conclusion. Mangosteen pulp juice powder and xanthone powder can be process by spray drying. For xanthone powder is raw materials as food in healthy drink and in cosmetic.

40 Conclusion Xanthone and derivatives have been shown to have beneficial effects on some cardiovascular diseases, including heart disease, hypertension. The protective effect of xanthones in the cardiovascular system may be due to their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory.

41 Conclusion Xanthones may also have anti-tumor activity thus potentially having an influence in the prevention or treatment of certain cancers.

42 Conclusion The actual active ingredients, Xanthones are mostly in the rind and less in the fruit. Nutraceutical for health benefit need improving general health and wellness in human.
