1 In the Beginning Monday Genesis 1-2 With the ultimate creative power and skill, God took formlessness and emptiness and created the universe. Think about what it means to be created in God s image. List some of your creative talents. Genesis 1-2 Over what did God make man ruler (Genesis 1:26)? What were Adam s tasks in Eden (Genesis 2: 15)? What can we learn about God from the universe He created? Give thanks to God for his amazing creation.

2 In the Beginning - Tuesday Genesis 3 God created man in His own image and put him in the Garden of Eden. God didn t want Adam to be alone, so he created Eve. What tempts you? How would it feel to be separated from God? Genesis 3 What did the serpent say to convince Adam and Eve to eat the fruit? (Genesis 3: 1-6)? What excuses did Adam and Eve give God for their sins (Genesis 3: 12-13)? Meditate on how God created paradise for humans, but humans were more interested in being equal with God. Pray for forgiveness because we all sin like Adam and Eve and disappoint God.

3 In the Beginning - Wednesday Genesis 4 God created the perfect place for Adam and Eve to live and work. However, the serpent used his craftiness to tempt them into wanting to be like God, and they ate the one fruit they were not allowed to eat. Their sins separated them from God, and He removed them from Eden. How do you behave when you are being too competitive with a sibling or friend? How does anger change your behavior? Genesis 4 Which offering pleased God, Cain s or Abel s (Genesis 4: 3-5)? How was Cain s sin different from Eve s? (Genesis 4: 6-9)? Meditate on how God spared Cain s life. Thank God for forgiving our sins and caring for us.

4 In the Beginning - Thursday Genesis 6-7 Adam and Eve soon learned that sin was not limited to them. Cain thought he knew better than God and instead of seeking God s help, he committed violence against his brother. Do you think God has emotions? When someone makes a verbal agreement with you, do you expect them to fulfill it? Genesis 6-7 What did God promise Noah (Genesis 6: 17-18)? What was Noah s response to God s request (Genesis 7:5)? Meditate on everything that God wished for His people and how they behaved instead. Thank God for saving earth and mankind from the flood.

5 In the Beginning - Friday Genesis 8-9 As people spread out across the earth, so did sin. God sent a great flood, but spared Noah and his family. What are some promises that God has made to us? Think of a situation where you were frustrated or disappointed and wanted to start over. Genesis 8-9 What covenant did God make with Noah (Genesis 8: 21-22)? How did God bless Noah and his sons (Genesis 9: 1-3)? Think about the new chances God gives us and the opportunities they provide. Pray for the strength to turn to God in trying times.

6 In the Beginning - Saturday Genesis 11 Noah, his family and the animals survived the flood. God instructed them to repopulate the earth. God made a covenant with Noah to never again destroy the earth with water. List some reasons why nations hate each other. Why do people want to be equal with God? Genesis 11 What did God do to the men who were building the tower (Genesis 11: 5-9)? Why were the men building a tower (Genesis 11: 1-4)? Think about the sins committed by Satan, Adam, Eve, Cain and the people of Babel because they wanted to be like God. Ask for the strength to trust God and not think that we can do better.
