If you live in the Stonebridge area and would like your child(ren) to be bussed, please contact the office to get the Bus Registration Form. We are very proud of our volunteers. Any amount of time that you have given us has been very much appreciated. We want to thank every one of you for your dedication to the students of John Lake School. Some examples of this great work include: reading and doing math with individual students and groups of students, organizing and running hot lunches, working at the book fair, Literacy Night, accompanying students on field trips, assisting in our LRC, helping in the classrooms, assisting in the class bottle drives, running Home & School fundraisers, donating items for use at school, attending School Community Council (SCC) meetings and events. These are just a few of the many activities that our volunteers have assisted with over the course of the school year. We hope you will continue to take the opportunity to volunteer next year as well. 2 SCHOOL TOOLS John Lake School is again taking part in the School Tools program offered by Staples. This program allows parents to order school supplies online and have them delivered directly to the school in September. Information was either ed or sent home to parents outlining how to order online with the appropriate reference codes. If you did not receive this information please let Mrs. Fraser know by ing or calling The deadline for ordering is June 30th. BAND CONCERT There will be a band concert on Friday June 12th at 2:47 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. SCHOOL TOOLS CORRECTION Staples has informed us that there is a change of reference number for the Grade 4 supply list. They apologize if this has caused any inconvenience. Standard Kit - 278D Deluxe Kit - FDE37B Premium Kit - 1BDE LRC LOST/DAMAGED BOOKS We appreciate that students try to be responsible with the material they borrow from the school library; however, books sometimes get misplaced or accidentally damaged. In order to keep as many books available and in circulation, students are reminded weekly by their teacher if they have any over dues. With yearend just around the corner we would like all borrowed material returned to the library by Wed., June 10th. If something is missing a reminder will be sent home with the student so that the parents/ guardians are aware of the overdue or missing book and can hopefully assist in ensuring its prompt return. On missing items, payment will be requested to cover the replacement cost for the lost or damaged book. Should the missing item be found at a later date, a full refund will be issued for the amount to be paid. Books are an expensive and valuable resource. Thank you for helping to maintain the wonderful collection we have at our school! Ms. L. Proctor, Teacher Librarian TRACK MEET The grade 5-8 students spent a beautiful afternoon outdoors participating in the school s track meet. Congratulations to all the students for their effort and enthusiasm. Students who will be going on to participate at the City Track Meet at Griffiths will receive a note with information regarding that day. From the Board Table Highlights from the June 2, 2015, mee ng of the Board of Educa on: Trustees approved the school division s budget for The budget includes opera ng expenses of $252.5 million, an increase of approximately $13.2 million or 5.51 per cent over the previous year. The majority of that increase is a result of three years of salary increases being reported as part of the recent provincial collec ve bargaining agreement with teachers. The board will draw $3.2 million from its opera ng reserves in order to provide the teaching staff and other supports required for an expected increase in student enrolment of 615 students in September That decision was made a er the provincial government chose in its last budget to not provide funding for enrolment growth during the year in which it occurs. The budget includes funding for 31 addi onal classroom teachers, most of those at the elementary level, along with 15 educa onal assistant posi ons. The division will also hire 3.5 English as an addi onal language teachers for elementary schools. Program highlights from the budget include: establishment of a new Interna onal Baccalaureate at Aden Bowman Collegiate; introduc on of the Flex educa on program for Grade 7 9 students and the repurposing of City Park Collegiate to house the Online Learning Centre and several of the division s unique programs; and the introduc on of the Late French Immersion program to École Alvin Buckwold School and École Forest Grove School. Board members learned more about the Early Learning Tutor Program that is ac ve in 15 schools. Students in Grade 1 to Grade 4 are paired with tutors for 21, one hour sessions of one on one learning. The program has seen students improve their reading by an average of half a grade level. The program is supported by donors through the Saskatoon Public Schools Founda on. Trustees received an update on the role of elementary counsellors in schools and the ongoing work of enhancing best prac ces in counselling services to effec vely address the needs of students and schools. 4 SCC SPONSORED EVENT The SCC is sponsoring a hot dog picnic lunch for all students on Tuesday, June 16th. They will be provided with a hot dog(s), chips and a drink. The Grade 2-8 classes will be going to Lathey Pool to enjoy an afternoon of swimming from 1 3 p.m. Please ensure your child has proper attire, a towel and sunscreen. In the event of poor weather the students will have a movie afternoon.

5 Saskatoon Minor Basketball Summer Camp 2015 The SMBA is very proud to present its 13th annual SMBA CAMPS. The SMBA Basketball Camp staff share in a wealth of knowledge and experience. All staff have either played or coached at an elite level. The first camp, for younger players going into grades 1 to 5, runs from July The second camp, for older players going into grades 6 to 8, runs from July These are co educa onal camps for all boys and girls under 14 years of age or going into 8 or below.
