4 What is HEDIS, and how does it support better health outcomes and affordability + The Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) is one of three accreditation tools used by NCQA. it is a tool used by more than 90 percent of America's health plans to measure performance on important dimensions of care and service. It makes it possible to compare the performance of health plans on an "apples-to-apples" basis. Health plans use HEDIS results to determine where to focus their efforts for improvement Employers, consultants, and consumers use HEDIS data, along with NCQA information, to help them select the best health plan for their needs. Patients who receive evidence based care have improved health outcomes and cost less than those who do not

5 What is NCQA The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. NCQA accredits and certifies a wide range of health care organizations NCQA is considered as the good housekeeping stamp of approval for quality health plans Accreditation from NCQA or another accrediting entity is required for participation on the Health Insurance Marketplace (formally Health Insurance Exchange) NCQA accreditation status is considered by some large national employer groups for Health Plan selection

6 The NCQA score is made up of three categories Category HEDIS Rates: BCBSNC provides a sample of PPO membership for a pre-determined set of HEDIS Measures. Data is collected by looking at claims data (administrative) or by a combination of chart review and claims (hybrid). CAHPS Score: CAHPS is a member facing survey focusing on provider and plan satisfaction and quality.
