1 imovie 11 Getting Started Import from Tape-Less Cameras, Tape Cameras, iphone/ipod To See a list of supported devices Choose- Help-Supported Cameras Connect your camera, Power it On, Set it to PC Connect or Computer Mode Two Choice to Import if you use HD Camera- Regular HD or Large 960x540 (Large Saves Space Next the camera Import Window Opens- If it s a tape camera you have fast forward and rewind buttons, tapeless cameras show thumb nails when the camera was recording Use Playback controls to preview any of the thumb nails To import all the clips just click import all To Import only a few clips change from Automatic to Manual and deselect the clips you don t want to import then click Import Checked Next choose where to store your clips- either on the hard drive of the computer or an external hard drive Type a name to create a new event for this video You can check to Stabilize the Image and Identify People- remember these take more time to import and can be performed later Click Import and imovie copies the videos to your mac After the import you can click the Event Library in the bottom left corner to see the imported clips Now you can use your clips to create your own movies

2 Start A New Project The Project Library is the top left window- this is where you see all your imove Projects To Start a new one click the Create New Project Button in the lower right corner- Hint- it s the plus sign The New Project Window Appears where you can start a new movie or a trailer Click a Theme or a Trailer to see a preview of it To start a blank project select No Theme Themes give your project a professional look with Titles and Transitions When you find something you like, type a name for your project Keep Automatically Add Titles and Transitions if you want imovie to add them as you edit your movie After you make all your selections click Create Now drag video from your Event Library and you are on your way to your first movie

3 Add Video to Your Project Locate the Event Library in the lower left corner- All videos are here organized into events Click and event to display the clips to the right in the Event Brower Videos are presented in film strips which you can skim with your pointer. When you skim a clip you can see it in the viewer above When you find a video you want to use just click and imovie selects a 4 second piece of it. Drag the selection to the project window and now it s a part of your movie If you want more than 4 seconds drag in the film strip and select what you want To select an entire clip hold down the Option Key while you click it Once you have multiple clips in your Project Window you can insert clips in between clips by dragging them in between- a green line will appear where the clip is going to insert You can rearrange clips too- simply drag them where you want In the Event Browser- video you have already used is marked with an orange stripe

4 Enhancing Your Project Adding a Theme You can add a theme when you start a new project from the New Project Window If you are already in a project, click File, Project Theme To change a Title- click the Title Bar in the Project Bar then click the Title in the Preview Window and Type the new Title To add more Titles Click the Add Title below the Viewer Hint- It s the button that has the capital T To use any Title Style just drag it to your movie As you add video clips to your project imovie will add transitions Adding Background Music To add music and sound effects to your movie click the Music and Sound Effects button below the Viewer Hint- It looks like Music Notes From here you access to all the music in your itunes Library plus some built in effects and loops from ilife Double click on any of them to listen to a preview You can Search for a specific song by typing it s name in the search field When you find the music you want drag it to the Project Window- be sure not to drop it on a click- only drop it on the gray area. To preview the music in your video simple move the cursor to the place you want to preview and press the space bar The Green Highlight shows where the music stops and ends. If the music is longer than the videos it will fade off at the end. If it doesn t fill the entire video then you need to add it again or choose something else. You can adjust audio properties by clicking the Action Button- Hint Button looks like a gear. Here you can set volume, adjust fades and make other adjustments

5 Adding Photos Click the Photo Button below the view Hint- It looks like a Camera This will bring up all the photos in iphoto organized in events To quickly find photos you can skim over the event to see the photos contained within To open the event double click on it When you find the photo you want to use just drag it to the project and place it anywhere you want When you add a photo the Ken Burns effect is automatically added making it look like it s being panned across and zoomed in on The default length is 4 seconds but can be changed by double clicking on the photo and adjusting the length of time, click done Place your cursor in front of the photo in the Project Window and press the space bar to watch it Adding Titles To add a Title Click the Title Button below the viewer Hint- It looks like a capital T Here you will see all the titles styles available To see a preview just hold your cursor over one of the styles to preview it When you find a style you like drag it over a clip in your project A blue highlight over the beginning, end or middle for the whole clip will show you where the title will apprear When you place the title a blue bar will appear over the clips to make the text in the Title your own just highlight the text in the Preview area Click the Show Fonts in the Preview Window- this will allow you to change fonts, colors and size When you finish click Done If you change your mind about the title just double click the Blue Title Bar above the clips and then choose Title When the chooser appears you can skim each one to see what it would look like in the Preview Window When you decide on one just choose it and then click Done If you want your title to stay on the screen longer just grab the left or right side of the blue bar and drag it to the length you like

6 Finally to preview your title move your cursor before the blue title bar and press your space bar to preview your movie

7 Adding Transitions To add transitions click the Transitions Button below the Preview Window Hint the button looks like a square with 2 gray triangles in it To Preview Transitions just point your cursor over them When you find one you want to use drag it between 2 clips in the Project Window To preview the transition in your project move your cursor in front of the clip and press the space bar To adjust the length of time of the transition, click the icon in the project window and then type the number of seconds you want it to last If you want to change a transition, drag a new on top Create a Trailer To create a Movie Trailer go to the File Menu and Click New Project Click a thumbnail to preview the trailer When you find one you like, click and type a Project Name and then click Create Next in the Outline- add details about the clips and persons featured When the Outline is complete, click the Story Board Tab This is where you ad video to your trailer- just click and drag video from the thumb nail previews To make the trailer most exciting try to add footage that matches the description You can also change the titles that appear throughout the trailer, just double click on them and type To Preview the entire trailer use the play button in the upper right corner of the Project Window

8 Share Your Movie Create a DVD imovie can send your project directly to idvd First, select the movie in the Project Window Next, Go to the Share Menu and choose idvd The project is sent to idvd- depending on the length of you movie it can take a few minutes When it s complete, idvd opens with your movie in a new project Type a Name for your Movie Then customize the look of your DVD by selecting a different theme on the right side of the window You can add more movies or photos by clicking the media button on the bottom right You can drag a photo album into your project and idvd will make a slide show Finally, insert a blank DVD into the optical drive and click the burn button, Hint Burn Button looks like a circle that has lines coming from the center
