34 Summary (1) High Speed Rail can be transformational: More than trains going faster Wider economic benefits Environmental benefits Need to Maximise the value
35 Summary (2) Maximising the Benefits: A high-speed line can become a catalyst for wider economic benefits. - But it cannot simply generate them in a vacuum. The most effective use of high-speed rail access has come with those cities demonstrating an integrated city strategy, consistently implemented over time in cooperation with all interests and with committed political leadership. The examples where this proactive approach has not been followed, such as Tours / St Pierre des Corps, have not benefited.
