1 JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Post No: Department: Location: Salary: Tenure: Hours: Professor of Accounting, Banking or Finance (exact title to be decided by precise subject specialism) NM101XX Cardiff School of Management Llandaff Campus Negotiable Permanent 37 hours Accountable to: Head of Accounting, Economics and Finance Department, but with strong professional links to the School s Associate Deans of Learning and Teaching, Research and Enterprise. Applicants for the post of Professor must meet, and continue to meet, Cardiff Metropolitan University s criteria for such appointments. Job description Your duties and responsibilities will be determined annually by the Head of Department, in conjunction with the Dean and Associate Deans of Learning & Teaching, Research & Enterprise. 1. Serve as Programme Director for one (or more) of the department s new MSc programmes in Accounting and Finance, Banking and Finance, Economics and Finance. 2. Provide academic leadership to develop the School s profile in Accounting, Banking or Finance. 3. Play an active part in the development and implementation of the School s plans and research strategies. 4. Develop collaborative, inter-disciplinary research programmes and seek funding from appropriate, cherished sources to contribute materially to the growth of research and the related recurrent costs.

Produce research outputs related to Accounting, Banking or Finance, including refereed journals of international repute, contributions to edited works, position papers, consultation papers and articles for professional journals. 6. Supervise PhD students and line manage other staff (eg research assistants and support staff), as appropriate. 7. Mentor research active academics in the research skills required of a Principal Investigator. 8. Engage with research networks in Wales and beyond, and work interprofessionally with government agencies, policy-makers, professional bodies and practitioners. 9. Contribute to the development and delivery of academic programmes related to this field and related ones. On a weekly basis, contact time with undergraduates and post-graduates on taught programmes is unlikely to exceed 4 to 5 hours week except in exceptional circumstances. 10. Work with related field groups and colleagues to develop and deliver appropriate academic modules at undergraduate and postgraduate level. 11. Act as an expert on Accounting, Banking or Finance in relation to enquiries from the media and policy-makers. 3 PERSON SPECIFICATION Post: School: Professor of Accounting, Banking or Finance Cardiff School of Management *Key A - Application form I - Interview P - Presentation FACTORS Education and Qualifications Education and Qualifications ESSENTIAL AND DESIRABLE CRITERIA A doctoral degree Outstanding body of research in Accounting, Banking or Finance, including publishing in journals of international repute together with other distinguished scholarly activity. A distinguished and up to date teaching record. Fellowship or ability to achieve Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy within 3 years. ASSESSED BY A* I* P* Knowledge Good knowledge of a range of quality systems strategic issues in Higher Education e.g. QAA Knowledge of UK and European research funding mechanisms. Knowledge Knowledge of UK and European research governance policies.

4 Skills and Abilities Ability to supervise students at all levels. Excellent written & verbal communication skills. Ability to work well with colleagues as a mentor, academic leader and team member to achieve results to be a good academic citizen. Vision and ability to think strategically and to develop long term strategies and to be outcomefocused. Commercially and financially astute and an ability to be as comfortable and effective in the realms of business, government and professional bodies as in academe. Ability to contribute to the academic success and standing of the School/Cardiff Metropolitan University. IT skills relevant to the role. A proven track record of securing research or project funding as a Principal Investigator/Project Leader in an area related to management. Project management skills, including ability to control expenditure within a budget whilst meeting project deliverables. Recognised active role in appropriate academic and professional body or association. Skills and Abilities Experience paid or unpaid Recent experience of supervision of a minimum of 2 successful PhD studentships to completion as a Director of Studies. Experience in the development and leadership of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes Experience paid or unpaid Enterprise experience Experience as an external examiner, particularly at postgraduate and degree level. Experience of inter-professional working.
