6 State-of-the-art drives The series of Liebherr piling and drilling rigs is equipped with powerful diesel engines specially designed for heavy-duty construction tasks. Besides reliability, longevity and ease of service protection of the environment was also a main focus during development. For example, particle filters, which can also be retrofitted, make the piling and drilling rigs of the LRB series especially environmentally friendly - a prerequisite for their application in sensitive areas. Fuel savings of up to 40% The powerful Liebherr diesel engines, offering kw depending on the machine class, allow operation of vibrator, hammer, double rotary head, etc. solely via the machine s on-board hydraulics. No additional power packs are needed. This saves fuel and thus operating costs. 6

7 Intelligent cooling system Through its automatically adjusted ventilation speed, the temperature controlled cooling system withstands even extreme temperatures and thus reduces noise emissions as well as fuel consumption. Automatic performance optimization Litronic, the Liebherr system for electronic control and monitoring of all machine data, precisely turns all control commands into machine functions, assists the operator and affords even more ease of operation. Moreover, the diagnostics system detects and localizes possible failures at an early stage. Environmentally friendly through particle filters Liebherr also offers particle filters with continuously regenerative technology for its piling and drilling rigs. They can be retrofitted and make the LRB machines exceedingly environmentally friendly. 7

8 Convincing leader concept The higher the utilization of a piling and drilling rig, the more profitable its operation. Therefore the kinematics and leaders of Liebherr piling and drilling rigs are designed for a wide variety of applications. More stability for maximum precision The unique triangular kinematics of the LRB series provides the machine with outstanding stability and high alignment forces and allows only a minimum of deformation, thus guaranteeing maximum precision, e.g. during the installation of foundation piles. During installation of sheet pile walls the leader swing device enables precise alignment of the elements to be installed, especially in corners. In addition, this feature reduces lock friction, accelerates the installation process and protects the sheet piles from deformation. Due to the optional leader extensions, the effective lengths achieved are considered the best of their class. Rope crowd system for increased pull-down force For drilling or vibrating piles as well as for pressing piles, the pull-down force of the machine is of vital importance. Through the rope crowd system, which is standard in these machines, the element to be installed can be additionally loaded with the weight of the piling and drilling rig. This shortens the installation process and boosts productivity. 10 Electronic control The core of the Liebherr piling and drilling rigs is the Litronic control system. Developed and manufactured by Liebherr, this comprehensive system encompasses all control and monitoring functions and is designed for extreme environmental conditions in tough assignments. Operating comfort and information through Litronic The Litronic is based on a CANBUS system of the latest generation and does not only provide clear information on operation and application data but also on service requirements and possible defaults. All information, warnings and failure indications required for the current machine operation are clearly displayed on the monitor in the operator s cab and stored. This allows optimum diagnosis and early detection and prevention of more serious defects. Quality assurance with PDE process data recording Apart from a modem for remote diagnosis, a PDE process data recording system for documentation of the work carried out is available as cartridge. Thereby, the data are stored on a PC-MCIA card and can be either printed as graphic directly in the operator s cab or further processed via database on the PC. High precision machine control The electro-hydraulic proportional control enables several movements to be carried out simultaneously and with utmost precision. Thus, excellent positioning is provided in all fields of application. 10

14 Drilling in every way For drilling applications, a robust and torsion resistant leader counts above all. Therefore the leader swing device, which is of great importance for vibrating tasks, is given special stability through a torque support when applied for drilling jobs. This creates a leader system which resists highest torques without showing the slightest torsion. For the various drilling tasks single or double drilling drives, mixing drives as well as a wide range of accessories are available. 14

15 Flexibility through main winch Thanks to the powerful main winch the machine can also be used for kelly drilling, e.g. when installing large diameter drilled piles. In case of heavy extraction work, e.g. during double rotary drilling, the main winch is used in combination with the rope crowd system. High drive force for high daily production During double rotary drilling, where two drives have to be fed with power simultaneously, the high engine power of the Liebherr piling and drilling rigs directly boosts productivity. More pull-down force for more displacement The innovative rope crowd system produces high pulldown forces and makes the LRB machines extremely attractive for creating displacement piles. Rigid leader design for utmost precision High directional precision of the mixing equipment is required e.g. for soil mixing. With their extraordinarily rigid box design Liebherr LRB machines once again hit the mark. Longer leaders for longer piles Due to the modular system for leader extension and the rope crowd system, which can be applied over the full leader length, longer CFA drilled piles can be installed than with any other machine of this class. 15

16 Vibrating For every construction method Liebherr offers the suitable vibrator. High frequency vibrator with slim design A high frequency vibrator of exceptionally slim design is the ideal equipment for situations where the available space is extremely restricted. It is especially suitable for channel construction or for creating small lining walls. Leader-mounted high frequency vibrators High frequency vibrators with their lightweight design also convert the high pull and push forces of the rope crowd system into especially high production. Their resonance-free start-up and stopping phase qualifies them as the optimum equipment for creating large-surface sheet pile walls or foundation piles. Remote-controlled concreting system Using the remote-controlled filling system, no personnel are required in the leader area. This increases jobsite safety as well as productivity. Sheet pile feeder For safe and quick handling of sheet piles, Liebherr offers a sheet pile feeder, hydraulically pulling the piles up into the clamps. This saves time and increases safety for jobsite personnel. Gear oil cooling system For vibrating jobs all LRB machines are equipped with a permanent gear oil cooling system keeping temperatures low and decisively prolonging service life of the bearings. Ring vibrator For vibrating long pipes, the ring vibrator embraces and clamps the vibrating element. Thus, through re-positioning of the clamps even extra long pipes can be installed, as e.g. required for full displacement piles. Moreover, the pipe can be fitted with a reinforcement cage and filled with concrete without removing the vibrator. 16

18 Impact pile driving Liebherr also offers a series of leader-mounted hydraulic hammers for its LRB machines. Perfect tuning With various drop weights every hammer can be tuned ideally to its pile driving task. Due to the low height of hydraulic hammers, it is possible to install long impacting elements with comparatively small machines and to keep energy consumption at an unrivalled low level thanks to the ingenious hydraulic system. Useful accessories Whether for installing concrete piles and pipes, or for sheet piles and beams adequate accessories are available for every pile driving application: starting with drive caps for the most diverse cross-sections up to the various spreader plates with their adequate guides. Installed and documented The Litronic control records the current impact energy, pile penetration and blow rate of the hammer, calculates the load-bearing capacity of the pile and creates the relevant pile driving protocol. 18

19 Pressing Environmental protection is equally vital in special deep foundation applications and above all in sensitive areas, where emissions of noise, exhaust fumes and vibration are subject to critical observation. In order to meet these demanding requirements, Liebherr offers hydraulic presses for quiet and vibration-less installation of sheet piles. Four-cylinder-press with variable geometry With its modular design consisting of a support frame and four pressing cylinders with clamp assembly, the press can be fitted onto any sheet pile profile. High pressing force and automatic pressing cycle With pressing forces of up to 120 tonnes, a pressing process ideally adjusted to the relevant soil conditions as well as a selected pressing cycle, the Litronic control automatically pilots the process of pile installation. Moment limiter to protect against overload Measuring devices monitor the pressing process and protect against overload and damage as well as against unforeseeable follow-up costs. 20 Cost-effective operation 3Their low weight and compact design are prerequisites for road transportation of the piling and drilling rigs in one piece. This minimizes assembly work on the jobsite and saves time and money even before operation starts. 23 Efficient transport Thanks to their low weight and advantageous dimensions, Liebherr piling and drilling rigs can be easily transported to their jobsites. Complete transportation of the machines lays the foundation for fast and easy assembly. The quicker a piling and drilling rig can be mobilized, the more rentable is its operation especially on small jobsites. 23

25 Quick and easy assembly Thanks to their compact design Liebherr piling and drilling rigs can mostly be transported in one piece, assembly work on the jobsite can be minimized and the machines are ready for operation within a very short period of time. Assembly without auxiliary crane If the counterweight of a larger machine is transported separately it can be assembled on site using the leader of the LRB machine without the need for an auxiliary crane. This means significant cost savings. Change of equipment with quick connection Various working tools can be mounted on the universal slide via quick connection device and the LRB machines are ready for another production method in a very short period of time. Liebherr continuously works on improving both factors and builds efficient piling and drilling rigs with very low operational costs. Well proven components All applied components are designed for reliability and longevity in order to reduce downtime and minimize repair costs. In addition to their excellent performance, Liebherr diesel engines are outstanding in their economical consumption. On-board hydraulics for all working tools Thanks to the powerful diesel engines additional power packs have become redundant. This reduces service costs by half and saves even more fuel. All equipment can be operated by the onboard hydraulics. Moreover, the lifetime lubricated components of the undercarriage enormously reduce maintenance requirements. 26

28 Higher productivity through better comfort 4Upon entering the operator s cab it becomes apparent that everything has been done to facilitate the handling of the machine for the operator. Pure ergonomics In the spacious cabin featuring a seat with multiple adjustments as well as air conditioning, all operating elements are clearly and ergonomically arranged. All machine movements are controlled proportionally and precisely by two joysticks and two foot pedals. Optimum overview An unobstructed view is elementary for precise and safe work. Generous all-round glazing ensures an unobstructed view of the entire working area, which, in addition, can be effectively illuminated. Unlimited control comfort with the Litronic system Because most working processes take place below ground level in special deep foundation work, precise control and visualization are of utmost importance for the operator. The standard Litronic control system converts all commands from the operator into machine functions with the utmost precision. All relevant information is displayed on the monitor. Downtime is enormously expensive and has to be reduced to a minimum. A tight network of service stations with qualified contacts and well-trained personnel guarantees quick assistance at any place and any time. Liebherr service is always available where the customer needs it. Remote diagnosis for rapid failure detection and repair Liebherr guarantees its customers optimum world-wide service and availability of spare parts at any operating point. Moreover, failures can be detected and sometimes directly repaired via GSM service modem and remote diagnosis. Software updates as well as maintenance work can be carried out with this modem. Downtime is reduced, the machine is available for a longer period of time and consequently time and costs are saved.
