1 Welcome Packet for Participating Artists 2015 The organizers of the 6th annual Pullman ArtWalk seek to raise the awareness among our Whitman County families and friends of the creative talents of artists living in Pullman and the surrounding area. This large-scale exhibition will afford both established and emerging artists the opportunity to share their works and artistic philosophies with the community. We hope you can join the Pullman Merchants in this grand celebration of the Arts of our region. This welcome and informational packet is designed to help you make the most of this art walk experience from establishing a relationship with your merchant, installing your art within their exhibition space, and organizing your opening reception. 2 Art Walk FAQs: What is the ArtWalk? The Pullman ArtWalk is an annual partnership between regional artists and the merchants of Pullman, Washington, designed to celebrate the fine arts of the greater Palouse region. In addition to affording exhibition venues for established and emerging artists, participating merchants will also get the opportunity to reach new clientele and offer special product discounts during the special reception events. This event will organize artist gallery receptions and innovative art exhibits in partnership with local businesses. It will also offer opportunities for creating temporary pop-up projects, children s activities, theater art performance, music experiences and other displays designed to promote and celebrate fine arts in our region. Art Walk will offer an opportunity to use the arts as a way of building community and redefine space adding to the vibrancy of downtown Pullman. Exhibits will be celebrated through a Main Event in Downtown Pullman with interactive activities. We hope to add new venues and events each year as the popularity of our ArtWalk grows. When will the ArtWalk happen? The ArtWalk 2015 in downtown Pullman will be an evening celebration with merchants from downtown Pullman. There will be formal ArtWalk receptions and art exhibits from 4:00-8:00pm Saturday, May 16th. This means the artist and merchant will need to coordinate the art s installation prior to Monday, May 11th. Take down can happen any time after Friday, June 5th. De-installation is also to be coordinated between artist and merchant. Install: prior to Monday, May 11th Main Event: Saturday, May 16th 4-8 PM De-installation: anytime after Friday, June 5th

3 Where will ArtWalk take place? Participating venues will include merchants within Pullman s downtown. Maps of all participating ArtWalk merchants, including artist information will be created by Daily News and distributed among the participating merchant venues. How do I become a participating visual artist? Participating artists will include artists living in Whitman or Latah County and/or have ties to the greater Palouse Region. Participating fine artists and artisans can be already established or emerging, and must produce high quality fine art work or artisan wares. How do I become a participating performance artist? Participating performance artists will include artists living in Whitman or Latah County and/or have ties to the greater Palouse Region. Participating performance artists can be already established OR emerging artists. They must produce high quality work appropriate for all ages and family friendly. The host merchant ask to see a video/example of your work prior to event. How are the artists paired with the merchants? The artist and merchant MAY make their own partnership. However, if you are uncertain of a business that would be a good match for your work, you may contact a Pullman Arts Commission member to help match you with a business partner. A registration form containing basic information will be needed by ALL participating artists to be shared with ArtWalk coordinators to ensure inclusion in our region-wide advertising. What are the display expectations? The artists are responsible for installing and taking down their artwork. Most of the merchants interiors are not natural gallery spaces, so artists may need to provide easels on which to exhibit their work at the merchants requests or if wall space is limited. It will be required that artists preview the assigned venue to be prepared for the artwork installation. Artists must respect the guidelines of the merchant at all time. We recommend each artist s exhibit include 8-15 works, all with printed title cards to include Title, Artist Name, Media and Price. We also recommend printing a short Artist Biography and/or Artist Statement so viewers can learn about you and

4 your background. Again, artists need to install their work prior to Monday, May 10th and take down after Friday, June 5th (unless prior arrangements have been made with the business) times and days to be coordinated between artist and merchant. What are the reception expectations? Artists are required to be in attendance at their exhibition venues during the ArtWalk 2015 Main Event in Downtown Pullman on Saturday, May 16th 4-8PM. The public likes being able to meet the artists which can often lead to more successful sales. Refreshments should be provided. Work with your Merchant Partner to determine how your reception will provide refreshments. Do artists pay commissions to the merchants if we sell work at their venue? No. Artists do not pay commissions to the merchants if you sell your work during ArtWalk 2015 Main Event on Saturday, May 16th 4-8PM and will make 100% of their sales for that evening. The ArtWalk is also an opportunity for the merchants to introduce their services/products to new clientele. However, if the merchant sells a piece of art on your behalf outside of the event date/time, you will need to determine an agreement with your merchant partner regarding sales. Artist & Merchant Discussion Checklist Artists, please discuss the following topics with your Merchant Partner prior to the installation of your artwork. What display space/equipment do you need and what is available to you at your merchant s venue (wall space, easels, mannequins, table display space, floor space, etc.)? What will you need to provide yourself? 2. When can you install your artwork? *All artwork displays must be finished and ready for public viewing beginning Monday, May 11th.

5 3. When can you take down your artwork? *All artwork displays must remain on view through Friday, June 5th. Extending the exhibition time is at the merchant s discretion. 4. What tools will you need to complete the installation and take down (ladder, hammer, special hooks for display walls, etc)? Who will provide? 5. Refreshments should be provided.
