1 St James Cf E Junir Schl - Anti-Bullying Plicy Ratinale Every child has the right t feel safe in schl and enjy their educatin withut the threat f bullying behaviur. We aim t build children s self-esteem and cnfidence and thrugh ur behaviur plicy we encurage children t respect themselves and thers, shw gd manners and care fr ther peple. We intend that the plicy is clearly understd and shared by all; children, staff and parents. This plicy shuld be read in cnjunctin with the Safeguarding Plicy. The anti-bullying prcedure takes its place within the general aims f the schl. It has clse links t the schl s Safeguarding, Behaviur and Equality plicies and is set within the framewrk f Keeping Children Safe in Educatin (DfE 2015) and Valuing All Gd s Children (Church f England Archbishps Cuncil 2014) The definitin f bullying accrding t the DfE (Nv 2014) is as fllws: Behaviur by an individual r grup, repeated ver time, that intentinally hurts an individual r grup either physically r emtinally. The fllwing is a list f actins available t staff depending n the perceived seriusness f the situatin. The emphasis is always n a caring, listening apprach as bullies are ften victims t that is why they bully. Talk t the suspected victim, and any witnesses individually using Restrative Justice prcedures and questins. Identify the perpetratr and talk abut what has happened, t discver why they became invlved. Make it clear that bullying is nt tlerated. If the perpetratr wns up then sanctin prcedures utlined in the Behaviur Plicy will be fllwed Incidents f bullying are recrded in the Schl Incident Lg and kept in the Head Teachers ffice Cnsistently use Restrative 1 Justice prcedures with all children. Keep an infrmal lg f incidents if there are cncerns Invlve all parties tgether t discuss the issues if agreed by all parties Allw children time t srt things ut.

Children participate in rle play wrk in class as part f PSHE and P4C Making use f curriculum pprtunities t raise pupil awareness eg thrugh RE, crss curricula themes, drama, stry writing and literature A whle schl reward system Gd quality rle mdelling by adults in schl Children & parents have a gd knwledge f the prcedure/plicy Children have a clear understanding f their rights & respnsibilities E-safety frequently discussed and taught Use f Play Leaders at break times Adults t deal with a situatin, even if minr. Talking t the children can ften prevent the situatin escalating 1 Restrative Justice: Restrative practices fcus n repairing the harm dne t peple and relatinships. The prcess invlves all parties, giving everyne affected the chance t: Talk abut what has happened Explain hw it made them feel Explain what made them say/d that Understand Repair the harm Restrative practices refer t a range f methds and strategies that can be used t prevent and reslve relatinship damaging incidents and has been rated by the DfE as highly effective in preventing bullying. The gverning bdy will nt cndne any bullying at all in ur schl, and any incidents f bullying that d ccur will be taken very seriusly, and dealt with apprpriately The gverning bdy mnitrs incidents f bullying that d ccur, and reviews the effectiveness f this plicy regularly. The gvernrs require the Head Teacher t keep accurate recrds f all incidents f bullying, and t reprt t the gvernrs abut the effectiveness f schl s anti-bullying plicy. If parent is dissatisfied with the way the schl has dealt with a bullying incident, they shuld fllw the schl cmplaints prcedure by initially cntacting the class teacher. If the cncern remains, they shuld cntact the Head Teacher. If they are still cncerned, they shuld cntact the Gverning Bdy via clerk.

4 The rle f the Head Teacher St James Cf E Junir Schl - Anti-Bullying Plicy It is the respnsibility f the Head Teacher t implement the schl Anti-bullying prcedure, and t ensure that all staff (bth teaching and nn-teaching) are aware f the schl plicy, and knw hw t identify and deal with incidents f bullying. The Head Teacher reprts t the gverning bdy abut the effectiveness f the anti-bullying plicy n request. The Head Teacher ensures that all children knw that bullying is unacceptable behaviur. The Head Teacher will will keep all staff infrmed f any bullying incidents t ensure cnstant and cnsistent mnitring f the situatin. The Head Teacher ensures that all staff, including midday supervisrs, receive sufficient training t be equipped t identify and deal with all incidents f bullying. The Head Teacher leads the schl in making ur visin a reality, where all members f the learning cmmunity value, respect and care fr each ther. The rle f staff All frms f bullying are taken seriusly, and practive measures are taken t prevent it frm taking place. All adults t deal with situatins quickly and by using Restrative Justice methds t prevent situatins escalating. All adults t fllw up what they have said e.g. keeping and eye, fllw up discussin etc. Teachers are respnsible fr reprting all incidents f bullying that happen in their class, and that they are aware f in the schl. If a child is being bullied r is bullying thers, the class teacher will infrm the head r deputy head teacher immediately. When any bullying takes place between members f a class, the teacher will deal with the issue immediately, in accrdance with ur prcedure, including cunselling and supprt fr bth the victim and perpetratr f the bullying. A range f methds are used t help prevent bullying and t establish a climate f trust and respect fr all.

We ask parents t:- Lk ut fr unusual behaviur in yur children fr example, they may suddenly nt wish t attend schl, feel ill regularly, r nt cmplete wrk t their usual standard. Always take an active rle in yur child s educatin. Enquire hw their day has gne, wh they have spent their time with, etc. Mnitr yur child s use f scial media, including their use f messaging systems. If yu feel yur child may be a victim f bullying behaviur, infrm schl immediately. Yur cmplaint will be taken seriusly and apprpriate actin will fllw. If a child has bullied yur child, please d nt apprach that child n the playgrund r their parents r invlve an lder child t deal with the bully. Please infrm schl immediately and we will deal with it fllwing the schl prcedures. It is imprtant that yu advise yur child nt t fight back. It can make matters wrse! Tell yur child that it is nt their fault that they are being bullied. Reinfrce the schl s plicy cncerning bullying and make sure yur child is nt afraid t ask fr help. If yu knw yur child is invlved in bullying, please discuss the issues with them and infrm schl. The matter will be dealt with apprpriately. Remember incidents are cnfidential; d nt discuss them with ther parents n the playgrund. Speak t schl staff if yu have cncerns. Parents have a respnsibility t supprt the schl s anti-bullying plicy, actively encuraging their child t be a psitive member f the schl. Each term r when incidents ccur, class teachers will discuss bullying and reinfrce the fllwing strategies: Remember that yur silence is the bully s greatest weapn. Tell yurself that yu d nt deserve t be bullied and that it is wrng. Be prud f wh yu are. It is gd t be individual. Try nt t shw that yu are upset r scared. It is hard, but a bully thrives n smene s fear. Stay with a grup f friends/peple. There is safety in numbers. Be strng inside say N! Walk cnfidently away. G straight t a teacher r member f staff. If yu are getting s, texts r messages that make yu feel uncmfrtable please save them and shw them t an adult. D nt respnd t them. Fighting back may make things wrse dn t d it. Generally it is best t tell an adult yu trust straight away. Yu will get immediate supprt. Teachers will take yu seriusly and will deal with the bullies in a way which will end the bullying and will nt make things wrse fr yu.

It makes the victim feel mre unhappy and n their wn. Tell an adult immediately. Teachers will deal with the bully withut getting yu int truble. D nt take direct actin yurself. Mnitring and Review This plicy is mnitred n a day-t-day basis by the Head Teacher, wh reprts t gvernrs n request abut the effectiveness f the plicy. This anti-bullying plicy is the gvernrs respnsibility, and they review its effectiveness annually. They d this by examining the schl s anti-bullying lgbk, where incidents f bullying are recrded, and by discussin with the Head Teacher. Gvernrs analyse infrmatin fr patterns f peple, places r grups. They lk ut in particular fr racist bullying, r bullying directed at children with disabilities r special educatinal needs. This plicy will be reviewed annually in accrdance with the schl s review cycle, r earlier if necessary. This prcedure was agreed by the Gvernrs in Nvember 2015 and will be reviewed in December 2016
