1 10 - DRUG HISTORY ICEBREAKER Outcome To acknowledge and understand that drugs are not a new phenomena Preparation: Photocopy the quiz for every participant Can be used with Total Time Parents Staff Young people 24 mins METHOD TIME TOOLS 1. Explain the purpose of the exercise is to think about 1 min the history of drugs. 2. Inform participants that as an icebreaker exercise, you are going to split them into pairs. 3. Explain that you are going to handout a quiz and you would like them to put the pairs in chronological order, starting with the earliest event first. Reassure participants that this is a fun activity and not a test. 2 mins 10 mins QUIZ Note for trainer: At first glance participants may comment on the difficulty of this task. Reassure them that you are not expecting them to get all the answers in the right order as it is a difficult task, and that you will only be asking for them to volunteer their answers if they feel happy to do so. 4. Bring the pairs back together as a large group. Go through the answers asking participants to call out their answers beginning with the earliest event. 10 min. Summarise by saying that this activity shows that drugs are nothing new and that they have been around a long time. 1 min
