26 Med-X Research Institute Upon merging with the former Shanghai Second Medical University in 2005, it has been one of the key strategies of SJTU to rapidly enhance its capacity of conducting interdisciplinary research on medicine, engineering and physical sciences. With the great support of the leaders of the university, Med-X Research Institute was established on November 12th, The institute, established by the funding support of national 985 Project Grant, is one of the newly established key platforms for innovative scientific research in SJTU. The institute is led directly by the university leadership, mainly conducting interdisciplinary research on medicine and engineering/physical sciences.

27 Med-X Research Institute Has Been Developing Very Rapidly

28 Researchers in the Institute Since the institute was established, a number of excellent researchers have become full-time faculty of Med-X Research Institute. Among them, former faculty of UCSF, Purdue University, and University of Southern California has joined the institute as fulltime principal investigators in the major developing areas of the institute. Currently there are 16 Professors and 10 Associate Professors/Assistant Professors in the institute. The faculty includes two members of Chinese Academy of Engineering, one national Scholar of One Thousand-Talented People Project, two KC Wong Endowed Chair Professors, one Chief Scientist of national 973 Project Grant, one Cheung Kong Scholar Distinguished Professor, and two awardees of National Outstanding Young Investigator Grant.
