3 Section 1 Cell Discovery and Theory The Cell Theory All organisms are composed of one or more cells. The cell is the basic unit of structure and organization of organisms. All cells come from preexisting cells.

10 Section 2 The Plasma Membrane The plasma membrane is composed of the phospholipid bilayer. A phospholipid molecule is composed of a glycerol backbone, two fatty acid chains, and a phosphate group.
